21.01.2022 And the people rejoiced, for the toilet paper had returned to Woollies.

20.01.2022 Meet one of our local Makers Allison, who moved to Charters Towers in 2017 with her partner, who has since become her husband. Like many of our Makers, her small business started as a hobby. Allison describes herself as a self-confessed crazy plant lady, saying she would spend hours in her greenhouse potting up arrangements. One day when a friend was visiting, they asked about purchasing one and Green Your Space was born. Allison says, I love creating living gifts as t...hey really are the gift that keeps on giving. They continue to bloom and thrive for years to come and make for great statements in any space. I love seeing other people obsessing over their new leaves and growth, just like me. Allison is also a nurse at the Charters Towers Hospital. When she’s not working, she loves travelling and exploring new places, camping and going on outdoor adventures with her husband and their fur-baby, and catching up with friends and family. If you’re interested in purchasing one of Allison’s Green Your Space creations, contact her to find out about the plant and pot selections she has available. She also does custom arrangements, so if you something in mind for the succulent or plant selection or you have a pot in mind, she’d be happy to look into it for you. If you prefer to purchase in person, there are often a selection of Green Your Space arrangements in at Miss Moda Hair and Beauty and Allison attends the markets in Charters Towers when they are on. Allison occasionally makes deliveries in the Townsville area. This week will she will be heading to Townsville on Wednesday 17th June 2020. For contact details visit https://www.inthetowers.com.au/green-your-space Or head over to the Green Your Space Facebook page and send a message. #inTheTowers #makersInTheTowers #buyFromTheBush #greenyourspace

16.01.2022 Featuring our newest garden and landscaping business with Thomas who has lived in Charters Towers all his life, and Colleen, who moved here in 2014. Their business started out as a hobby on the side something they both enjoyed doing. Demand for their hardy, sun-hardened plants grew and in July 2019 they decided to run it as a business called Sheepstation Creek Landscaping Supplies and Plants. Thomas says, We really enjoy meeting people and helping them to decide what pla...nt would best suit their needs. And we love getting photos of how their garden is progressing. As well as having the business in Charters Towers, they often load up their specially designed trailer and attend the markets out in Hughenden. Thomas and Colleen also have cattle on their property so between looking after them and running their expanding business, they don’t get a lot of time off. But they say that’s ok, because they love what they’re doing. Find out more at: https://www.inthetowers.com.au/sheepstation-creek #inTheTowers #retailersInTheTowers

15.01.2022 Mother's Day this year might be a little different, but there are still a lot of local options that your mum will love. Below are a list of ideas for your mum this Mother's Day from local Charters Towers makers, retailers and service providers. Mother's Day in 2020 is on Sunday 10th May - and it is unlikely that cute handmade gifts will be sent home from school this year. 15.01.2022 Bianca was born and bred in Charters Towers and after spending recent years in Townsville, she has moved back to town with her husband and two sons to be close to her family. Bianca is an experienced recruitment consultant who prides herself on building strong client relationships. She has been a valued member of the Achieve Group Townsville team since 2017, so when she mentioned the move back to Charters Towers, they could not resist offering her the opportunity to take Achi...eve Group Westward and they say she has really, "hit the ground running." The Achieve Group was established Townsville in 2006 and was founded with the focus of doing things differently when matching job seekers with businesses who are looking to hire. Bianca says, I enjoy the fact that even though the Achieve Group is a small family run business, we achieve big results. Her commitment to her role has lead to her being called on to source challenging positions for businesses those roles that are often difficult to fill as permanent roles. She says, I understand that not every job suits every person, so I take the time to understand the unique requirements of both employers and job seekers to ensure a successful match is achieved. When she has spare time, she enjoys spending it with her young family, going fishing, riding horses and going camping. Welcome back to The Towers Bianca! 11.01.2022 Tania is a talented First Nation’s artist who creates contemporary Aboriginal Art in her art studio in The Towers. She was born in Charters Towers and after spending a few years in Brisbane, returned to town with her family. Her studio, Dillinga's Dreaming is named for "Dillinga" - her Aboriginal name - which means Silver Brolga. As the name might suggest, Tania loves painting native birds and Dreaming stories. Tania spent many years battling anxiety and depression and alth...ough she eventually sought help through the traditional medical channels, she never found her peace until she took up painting. She is a self taught artist who has found her happy place in her studio, creating her artworks with the music blaring. It is her escape. She particularly enjoys seeing her artwork turned into functional art beautiful pieces that can be used, like coffee cups and pens. It brings her a huge sense of accomplishment to share her artwork in a way that is useful to people. She loves all types of art though and is able to create large murals including those featuring landscapes, buildings and native plants. Apart from art, Tania also has a love of the written word, who she says she can thank her Dad for because he was always reciting Australian bush poetry. Over the years it has rubbed off on her and she has produced a fair bit of poetry of her own. She would like to publish a book with her art and poetry and have it used as a teaching resource for students to learn about Gudjala country and herself as a First Nations Artist. She is currently planning an exhibition at the World Theatre in September. Her previous exhibitions have seen her artwork purchased by people all over the world, including England, America and New Zealand. When asked what she likes to do in her spare time, she says her painting is what she loves, "I can't think of anything else I'd rather be doing." To see more of Tania's beautiful paintings, drop into her studio in Gill St next to the Dry Cleaners, follow her on Facebook or visit https://www.inthetowers.com.au/dillingas-dreaming #inTheTowers #getOutbacktoCharters #MakersInTheTowers #art #buyfromthebush

11.01.2022 Happy Mother's Day to all the beautiful mums in The Towers and to those that are missed. I was lucky enough to be able to give two of these beautiful red velvet heart cakes from Perry's Bakehouse Cafe to my two beautiful grandmothers. One is in her 90s and one in her late 80s and along with my mum, are some of the strongest women I know.

08.01.2022 Dan was born and bred in Charters Towers, attending Central State School and State High for his education. He and his wife Kym, who is originally from Proserpine, have been living in Charters Towers since 2010. Dan and Kym have three children and realised that purchasing the meat products they wanted to serve their family worked out to be quite expensive. Like most things, if you could buy it in bulk, it worked out to be cheaper. ... Dan was working as a slaughterman and butcher when he and Kym decided to try to source local livestock and process it themselves to help with their tight budget. They figured that other families might also be interested in this option and so in 2016 they started Dans Country Meats, initially offering just whole or half sides of local beef and pork products. This year, they expanded their offering to smaller lots, but still with the cost advantage of buying in bulk. Each week they offer a different selection of sausages with previous options including field mushroom and garlic, lamb and curry, roast tomato and cracked pepper beef sausages, and smokey bacon and maple syrup pork sausages. They open their Boning Room every Thursday and Friday and often post the products they will have available for the week on their Facebook page. If you’re after something in particular, you are welcome to order ahead. And if you’re from out of town, be sure to bring your esky! Kym says, We absolutely love seeing our regulars coming back each week and giving us awesome, honest feedback on our products. We love knowing we are helping out larger families like ours who are on a budget by offering them the option to buy in bulk and get value of money on quality, local products. When they get some spare time, you’ll find Kym and Dan mustering or campdrating and working their horses. And on those rare weekends when the family are all at home together, they love nothing more than firing up their Smoker or BBQ feasting on their own quality meats. If you’re interested in seeing some of their products, be sure to follow Dan’s Country Meats on Facebook, where they also share some of their delicious looking meals. 01.01.2022 Craig grew up just outside Charters Towers and attended Mt Carmel College as a boarder. In his senior year he met Bec and the rest, as they say, is history. Together they started WillAvago Vegetation Management in 2018 after battling with Chinee Apple on their land. Craig was cutting and poisoning manually and felt there had to be an easier and more cost effective way. He researched and found a solution in the US and imported just the second machine of its kind into Australia.... Its innovative design cuts and poisons at the same time. This important for some invasive species like Chinee Apple, where you have just seconds to poison after the stump is cut or the stump is sealed and any poisons are ineffective. After trialing it on his own land and seeing the results, he knew it could help others as well. They named the business WillAvago - a combination of "Will" for their last name Williams, and "Avago" in reference to "have a go at anything". As the business has grown, Craig has added more attachments to the machine including a stick rake, bucket attachment, post hole digger and now they also have a mulcher. Craig says, "The best part about the job is that you get to see people's reactions when they see how their land looks when it is free of pests and they regain their usable land again." Bec and Craig have three young boys who attend the same school where their parents met - Columba Catholic College, where Bec also works. Craig doesn't have much time off, but when he does, he likes having friends over for a BBQ or heading off with the family in their caravan.
