25.01.2022 12 years ago Prime Minister Kevin Rudd apologised to the stolen generations televised to the entire nation. Unfortunately not much has changed for our communities since this day. We are still dying 8-15 earlier than our fellow Australians. ... Only 53 years ago indigenous people were classified as flora and fauna, this fact still hurts deeply within our families and communities today. Tonight I attended a reconciliation event in Western Sydney and was witness to some of the most harrowing stories from survivors of the stolen generations, I wish to thank them for their bravery. The inter-generational trauma caused by colonisation is felt by many across our nations and mobs including my own family.
