19.01.2022 This is an accapella/unaccompanied version of the Te Deum as found in the order of service Matins in the Lutheran Hymnal Supplement (LHS) p. 40-42. It's purely designed to teach or help people learn this canticle for when we do Matins or for home worship. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eMMYCDNWPk

17.01.2022 This is a tutorial on how to chant the Holy Communion order titled, "The ServiceAlternative Form" as found on p. 58 in the Lutheran Hymnal Supplement (LHS). It is primarily to help LCA members familiarise themselves with this order of service but is perfect for pastoral students, lay worship leaders and for private home worship. This order of service was put out for trial use in the LCA by its 1984 synodical convention. It was formally published in 1987 in the Supplement whi...ch is an additional resource with the Lutheran Hymnal (1973). This video is only the chanted parts of the liturgy, not any of the spoken parts. I have chosen the B options for the Gloria, A option for the Epistle reading, B option for the offertory, and I have chanted the preface in the liturgy of Holy Communion (Epiphany) using The Lutheran Book of Worship: Ministers Desk Edition (1978, p. 210) or as I refer to the as the 'Brown Hymnal'. I hope and pray this serves you to familiarise yourself with the LHS liturgy. In ChristPs. Pete https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2h45zxKA-lM

What is the sacramental significance of Lent into Holy Week, the connection between Maundy Thursday the OT, NT and the Liturgy? Part 2. We’ll also be looking at Ash Wednesday. What is Ash Wednesday? Why does the Church put ash crosses on their foreheads? and What is the history and theology of ash in the bible? is there any theo...logical significance for using ash? And why 40 days for Lent? These questions and more will be unpacked today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBM_rB-M9xo&feature=youtu.be

13.01.2022 Have you been in church or visited a church, and in the middle of a hymn you think to yourself, even though I can see the words on the screen I have no idea what song this is or how to sing it? It is the likely the reason you don’t know the hymn is because you’re unfamiliar with it and you probably don’t know how to read music. However traditionally in the Lutheran Church there is a lost art of singing hymnody and the skill of reading melodies in a hymnal that was considere...d the standard in generations past. This is same for many other Christian Churches such as orthodox traditions, the Roman Catholic Church, Methodism, Wesleyan Churches, the Scottish Presbyterian Church, traditional Baptist Churches, Anglicanism, Eastern Orthodox Churches and many more. All of these Churches have had for hundreds of years or more, a strong culture of singing hymns and hymnody. They have each had and utilised various hymnals for generations and these traditions are for the most part still around but are more or less culturally forgotten. This video is not to teach the theology of hymns or why you should use hymns, there are other videos I’ve done for that. But just quickly, regarding history, historically this goes back to the Monks and Gregorian era where they sung notes on a page and were chanting Gregorian hymns and psalms in non-metric forms in accapella, that is, often unaccompanied, and without music. We still have many of these hymnals that monks used as they chanted in Latin in the Middle Ages in the Western Churches. These monks knew how to read music. They could all pick up a hymn or a psalter and sing together in unison because they all had knowledge and practice of reading music together. Here are 6 points to help you understand the culture and musicology of Lutheran hymnody and learning to sing hymns from a hymnal, enough to get you out of trouble and bring you up to speed with what is going on in Lutheran worship. We’ll look at questions like why is the pastor or organist doing this or that? And dare I say these points will probably and easily carry over to almost every other Christian tradition that sings hymns. 1. Traditionally hymns are sung from beginning to end. 2. Learn To Read Music and Study (or at least become familiar with) the Hymnal/Liturgy Terminology. 3. Metric and Non-metric Forms. 4. Hymn Melodies are as a General RuleSung in Syllables. 5. Be Aware of Hymn Musical Structures. 6. Body language in Hymnody https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0ui3GKmEVU

08.01.2022 How quickly should one be baptised after confession and belief in Christ? Lutherans believe that baptism saves. It’s not a symbol. But rather it actually gives what God’s promises it will do. That is, it give’s salvation by the water and the Word, it forgives sins, defeats death and the devil, unites to Christ and we then raised with him by faith. It’s not something ‘we’ do but something ‘God is doing’. Based on this, the question then becomes, well ‘if‘ baptism saves..., then why not save as soon as possible? Why not give baptism to a person as soon as it is requested, why not baptise immediately, in case that person dies in their sins? This is the discussion and it is based on Matt. 28:19-20 and 1 Cor. 11:23-30 Massive thank you and credit goes to Jai Raynor who inspired me to do this video by pressing me really hard to clearly clarify what Lutherans believe, teach and confess about this process of baptism and catechises. Thank you brother Jai! Pastor Peter https://www.youtube.com/watch

07.01.2022 Justification and Sanctification? What's the Difference? How do Lutheran's understand being justified in relation to sanctification's on going process? How do we receive justification? And how does the Holy Spirit continue to sanctify God's people through the Son? Some of these questions we'll unpack in this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJQz1lchCZ0

03.01.2022 In the age of COVID 19. Should you watch other Church services online? (Churches that are not your own). This often ends in two extremes. Pride or dispair. Comparing church practices is likening church and worship to a type of "church culture of consumerism". The Church catholic is not here to entertain people. Such idiology can be damaging to both individuals and corporate bodies who worship. I encourage Christians to be discerning when viewing or attending other churches, both in person and online, observing differing worship practices. Hence, he respectful. Be wise. Be full of grace and commit to always leaning on the positive side of the 8th commandment, assuming the best when you see something that is questionable or discouraging.
