25.01.2022 When we have the privilege of returning to travel, we must ask ourselves one question: Will my trip leave the planet in a better state than before? As we rebuild the travel industry more responsibly, we shouldn’t just focus on leaving lighter footprints. We must ensure we all leave positive impacts on the people and places we visit. ... This is why we we’re focusing on regenerative travel - the concept of giving back more than we take - as one of our 5 foundations for How To Go in 2021. For us, it means ensuring our trips are a force for good through community tourism initiatives and environmental conservation projects, as well as working to decrease our carbon footprint as a business. For you, what does regenerative travel mean? Learn more about its importance and how to practice it by clicking through these frames. In 2021, let’s go to regenerate, not just sustain. #HowToGo2021 #BeIntrepid See more

24.01.2022 Every year, around this time, the coveted where to go lists start rolling in. These lists feature up-and-coming destinations, new tours, flight routes, hotel openings and hidden gems for the year ahead. But this year is different. And in 2021, with more questions than answers, it is less about where we go and more about how. ... So today, we’re launching our first ever how to go in 2021 list: 1. Go human-powered 2. Go to regenerate, not just sustain 3. Go slower 4. Go into the wild 5. Go on your own terms These 5 points are more than just trends. They are foundations. Foundations that will shape how we all think about our future adventures, and will inform our new trips in 2021. Over the weeks ahead, we are excited to dive deeper into these pillars and share more about how we can all travel more responsibly in the future. Because after nearly a year at home, we’ve learned that travel is a privilege, not a right. How we travel has never been more important. And whenever travel opens up, it’s important that we go the right way. How will you go in 2021? intrepidtravel.com/how-to-go-2021 #HowToGo2021 #BeIntrepid

24.01.2022 We’ve just launched our first ever trip in Vanuatu! This new 8-day South Pacific expedition is an adventure unlike any other - and it will take you far beyond walled-off resorts and into the heart of Vanuatu’s vibrant culture in 2021. Snorkel in the crystal clear waters around Nguna, discovering the coral reef (and in sight of a turtle or two!) in this special marine conservation area.... Plant trees at an important community reforestation project, then spend the night at a beachside bungalow run by village women. Hike to the rim of Mount Yasur, one of the world’s most active volcanoes, and watch smoke and lava billowing. Oh, and that’s not to mention countless village visits, beachfront meals, kayak trips, hot spring inclusions and more. Who’s in? View the trip: intrepidtravel.com/vanuatu/vanuatu-expedition-130695

22.01.2022 "I was on an Intrepid tour almost 8 years ago - the Vietnam Discovery trip, July 11, 2013. I remember it so well because on that trip I ended up meeting another traveler named Sarah. We hit it off and ended up staying in touch. What started as one adventure in Vietnam turned into many more over the next 5+ years. We had a relationship where we'd meet up in various parts of the world. Sort of like mini-honeymoons, which took us all over Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas. ...She's British and I was in Los Angeles, so "meeting up half way" evolved into "where can we go next?" About a year and a half ago we moved in together in NYC. And last summer, in August 2020, we got married. It's not like we went on this trip to meet someone, and certainly not a future spouse, but these things apparently do happen. The trip to Vietnam was only the start of a great adventure, and I wanted to share with you. Bryan There are so many things that travel gives us. Sometimes it is a great adventure, or a great story, and sometimes you might even find the love of your life. Thank you for sharing your story with us Sarah and Bryan, congrats!

19.01.2022 A new experience is on the horizon for our travellers in Morocco. Last week, our local team was out on a hot-air balloon test flight checking out a brand-new adventure that could be making its way to Intrepid trips in 2022 and beyond. This new balloon experience is in the village of Borross (45 minutes outside Marrakesh) and will give travellers an unforgettable view of the High Atlas mountains. It helps create new jobs for a community that previously hasn’t benefited from ...tourism. We are also working with the first female owned transportation company in Marrakesh to organize the transfers, helping improve gender equality within our supply chain. These types of experiences keep our words rooted in action, as we look to build back tourism more sustainably and equitably. We’re excited to take travellers to see Morocco from new heights. 18.01.2022 5 SIMPLE WAYS TO TRAVEL MORE REGENERATIVELY AND RESPONSIBLY IN 2021 Tackling the climate crisis has to be a collective effort, by travel companies and travellers alike. Off the back of our science-based targets, we asked our Environmental Impact Specialist, Dr. Susanne Etti, to share some of the most effective ways for travellers to reduce their emissions.... Please feel free to share this post or tag a friend in the comments to help us take responsible travel mainstream. Spend locally and invest in communities Regenerative travel is about keeping tourism dollar in-destination. Travel is a great distribution of wealth and spending local helps building resilient economies. Join collective efforts Find efficiencies like car-pooling, ride-sharing and using public transport. When enough people make small individual commitments, it has a big impact. Overland Trains. Ports. Land borders. While not always possible, choosing alternatives to air is among the most impactful ways to reduce GHG emissions on your trips. Build good habits at home... ...then take them abroad. Start low impact routines (like using reusable drink bottles) at home and it will help normalise them when off on an adventure. Offset Carbon offsetting does not create a license to emit, but it does provide critical funding to projects that are providing clean energy, as well as restoring and regenerating the planet.

13.01.2022 In the past, outdoor facilities were not available to people that look like me. I am glad those times have changed and now I have the responsibility to make sure people know that National Parks are for everyone. 12.01.2022 "In 2020, our ability to roam freely has been severely impacted, and we’ve all had the opportunity to sit back and reflect on why we travel. After all, living life is about experiencing all our world has to offer and travel gives you this in all its undiluted intensity. For me, the restrictions on travel meant mostly being confined to my small part of the UK. But it taught me to change the way I view travel. I’ve had a shift in mindset in which I see the appeal of the ...small and the local adventure. For years I had been looking for something vastly different from home, chasing epic adventures around the globe without really looking at what was outside my own front door. But just miles from where I live I can find everything from verdant Yorkshire moorland to the crumbling ruins of centuries-old abbeys. What does this mean for travel in 2021? I for one will be continuing to explore locally for the time being, but when we can start to travel more internationally again, I hope that the past year has given us a chance to rethink the way we do it. In the midst of the pandemic, we will all be travelling more cautiously, but now more than ever we should also consider travelling more conscientiously, considering the positive and negative impact that our adventures have on the planet. It’s clear that the decline in tourism has greatly affected livelihoods in all parts of the travel trade. We need to think about doing more to support local, independent businesses around the world at a time when they need it most, and using companies that are not only aware of their impact on the world, but are actively trying to make sure their impact is a positive one." -Dave, from the UK, reflecting on 2020 #BeTogether #BeIntrepid See more

12.01.2022 "Deep down I’m an explorer but over the years, I had set aside that part of me. Acknowledging it was a powerful experience. After all, as my grandmother says, you can’t pour from an empty cup. Or as I now say, a happy mom is a better mom." A gorgeous read - and a reminder for every mother to try take some time for themselves

10.01.2022 We LOVE this attitude. Can you relate?

08.01.2022 My mother had a saying as she visited Ireland age 93, 'go while you can for you never know when you can't'. I remembered this as I booked my 2021 Northern and Southern Ireland trip with you. I hope to go by boat, as my mother did when she visited in 1992. ... I intend to keep travelling as long as I can. -Mary, from the UK, helping us enter 2021 with travel hopes and dreams intact #BeTogether #BeIntrepid

07.01.2022 Why do we travel? It’s the best way to get out of your comfort zone. For Mandi, Antarctica was the farthest from it she has ever been. My home state of Texas is super warm, it’s definitely not like this... I’ve never been on a ship; I’ve never even been out to sea. So, the idea that I would jump into the Antarctic waters is ridiculous like seriously ridiculous. Being willing to push yourself to new heights is what makes travel so special. After spending so much time at h...ome over the past year, when the time is right, we’ll need travel to take us far from the familiar and outside our comfort zone. #BeIntrepid

05.01.2022 "The first step may seem scary, but ultimately it is also pretty simple: just take the leap."

05.01.2022 2020 made me realise how lucky I am to live in such a beautiful country as Australia. Being confined meant I took time to explore my local area and found beauty in the simple things. And as a frequent international traveller, I’ve been surprised by how much I’ve enjoyed my backyard. In 2020 I had short staycations in the Blue Mountains, Lamington National Park, Noosa Heads and more. I now feel like I look at the world with different eyes.... 2020 also reaffirmed what I always knew but took for granted - nothing matters more than being with your family and friends. I know I’ve been lucky to do so much travel. Now, I’m doing my best to keep the travel dream alive! -Pamela, from Australia, reminding us of the importance of gratitude and local adventures #BeTogether #BeIntrepid

03.01.2022 Even with all the challenges this year has thrown at us, we want to move into 2021 more positive and more hopeful than ever before. So we've put together a list of good things that happened in 2020 - from the rise of slow travel to the progress in combatting the climate crisis. Here's to embracing hope, connection and gratitude in 2021

03.01.2022 In 2021, let's ensure that when tourism returns, animal cruelty does not. As travellers, we all have the responsibility to choose animal experiences that put animal welfare at the forefront and benefit local communities. An inspiring example of this is ChangChill in Thailand, an observation-only elephant camp that provides educational and ethical elephant experiences. It's a camp we are very proud to visit on our trips through the region.... Enjoy this powerful video from our friends at GLP Films about it - and consider adding an experience there to your wishlist for the year ahead #BeResponsible #BeIntrepid

02.01.2022 In 2021, it’s not about where to travel, it’s about how. Last week, we released our first ever how to go list, with 5 foundations to shape how we all think about the future of travel and tours. The first of these foundations is human-powered adventure. ... What is human-powered adventure? A low-impact, high-reward way of travelling that focuses on exploration through walking, trekking, cycling or camping. It's more than a way of getting from Point A to Point B; it's about challenging yourself and gaining a greater appreciation for the great outdoors. Why go human-powered? It's good for you and it's good for the planet. Not only is the environmental footprint minimal, the physical health and mental health benefits are especially important in these challenging times. How to go human-powered? Any way you want! 01.01.2022 "The last 9 months have been a daily reminder to love and to stay grateful. As an eternal optimist, I think we’ve all learned to truly enjoy the moment - whatever that entails. My daughter decided to keep me company during the lockdown and brought her cat and dog to my house from her downtown apartment. Together, we enjoyed home-cooked meals for the first time together in well over 10 years, binge-watched Netflix hits, tried jigsaw puzzles and more. We ended up slowly sailin...g through our time together. And would you believe, when her lease ended in July, she decided to remain here for at least a year! I know my cancelled trips will still occur and for now, I’m focused on enjoying the family moments and remembering how fortunate I am. - Charlotte, from the US, reflecting on 2020 #BeTogether #BeIntrepid
