25.01.2022 Every behaviour has a positive intent. This assumes that at the deepest level of every human being, there is ALWAYS a positive intent. It automatically separates the persons behaviour from their intention and believes that they have a positive intent, even if they are producing a poor result or creating a negative response.... Beginning as if this is true, diminishes the negative and defensive energy that creates tension in relationships. Amazing things happen when you apply and embody this belief. For example, in an experiment testing the placebo effect during a 40-km cycling time trial, a group who were told they were given power drinks when they werent, had better performance than the group who really did get the power drinks and werent told. And, if the person acts differently to what we expect we feel badly, we judge their character and suffer unwanted consequences, all based on their actions. Its important to recognise that we are not our behaviours or actions. Who we are is more closely related to our likes/dislikes, our desires, and our intentions. So, what is it we can do to relate in a positive way with others?... What we can do is believe in another person believe that people always want to be valued and do their best. If we do this, then when their actions dont meet our expectations, we can still appreciate and value them.
