24.01.2022 Got a new line of Trevor James flutes, now selling from $650 with a proper wooden case.

23.01.2022 Why are Western Australian musicians being sending their instruments to the east coast for servicing and paying a fortune for repairs as a consequence. This is totally unneccessary and you wont get a better job done, in fact, from the evidence I have seen you wiil just get ripped off. One customer told me that because they had a $16000 flute,they thought it was reasonable to pay $600 for a service. I replied by saying that I have a $75000 motor vehicle and I only pay $300 for... a service. If your paying that sort of money for a flute service, you have rocks in your head.!!! Dont get sucked in by the glitzy music shop facard or the bulldust being fed to you by the repairer. At the end of the day, there is only so much you can do to service a woodwind instrument,unless something has changed in the 30 years I have been in the trade. See more

22.01.2022 If your looking for a flute / clarinet / saxophone, you need to stay away from the cheap stuff on the net, Most of these are not much more than a toy and wont last the year out. Just had a customer come in with one of these and they are not repairable. If the price looks too good to be true,leave it alone. There are no bargains ! If your unsure, then take my advice.

22.01.2022 Buying a Second Hand Instrument Keeping inmind, you dont know who has used it or where it has been and your going to stick it in your mouth. The first thing you need to do is get it cleaned and serviced.... You can and will catch cold germs/mouth ulcers and even gastro from a second hand instrument. Particularly woodwind instruments need a clean and bath at least once a year.

17.01.2022 Reflecting on feedback from my customers, I must have the fastest repair service in Perth. I hear about people waiting 3 weeks for a repair ( thats madness ). Someones spending too much time drinking coffee. I never let a repair take any longer than a week. In fact, most are done on a same day service. You cant beat that!!!

15.01.2022 If you want to get a good flute today, then look around for a good used second hand one that maybe needs an overhaul/ repad. you will end up with a better deal than buying a piece of chinese crap for the same money. If you can pick up a good older flute for say under $200 and spend up to $300 on it , you will have a good deal.

13.01.2022 Q. How do you know you are getting a proper service and who is doing the repair? Where do I go to get a proper service and how much should I pay? A. You need to find a repairer who is a musician in this field of expertise and has a good reputation as a repairer.... Ask around friends and other musos for references, then call the repair and ask "What do you get for your money". I see a lot of instruments that have obviously never had a proper clean and just a repair has been carried out. This is only half of the job. Keeping your instrument clean and germ free is as important as keeping it in good playing order. Clarinet, saxes, flutes, trumpets etc, all harbour bugs, grime and diseases. Considering we all get coughs and colds, we eat and drink sticky drinks and food which then get sprayed down our instruments when we play. Its a good idea to wash your mouth out before you play an instrument as food particles get stuck between your teeth. Playing somebody elses instrument is not particularly hygienic to do.

13.01.2022 Today I am going to take a swipe at the adventurous nature of 1 particular woodwind repairman who wrote on his repair docket that he ULTRASONICALLY cleaned the customers saxophone. What a load of BOLLOCKS, In 30 years of repairing this is the best BULLSHIT line I have ever heard. He then went on to say that he recut the toneholes when he fitted new pads. MORE BULLSHIT !!! These sort of characters just ruin the credibility of our industry. My message to him is to treat your customer with a little bit of respect even if you are trying to make yourself sound important.
