25.01.2022 One thing we’ve come to learn from the information coming from COVID-19 is anyone with compromised immunity is faced with a higher risk as the spread continues. Protecting my immune system is something I take seriously and over the last couple of weeks I’ve had lots of requests from patients and friends for strategies and recommendations. This will be ever more important in the coming weeks as the weather becomes cooler and we are faced with increasing amounts of uncertainty ...in our every day lives. I have 7 recommendations I encourage everyone to consider; we will discuss the first of these now. 1. Sleep It’s absolutely critical we maintain our regular sleep patterns, and perhaps look at maximising the overall amount we are getting as sleep is when our bodies heal and recover. Look to get a minimum of 8hrs and more if its manageable. Instead of trying to gain extra hours by sleeping in, perhaps look at going to bed earlier. I set my alarm at 9pm to make sure I’m on track for sleep by 9:30pm. I stop using my phone 30min before bed and over the last year have started using an app called ‘Calm’. It's a little pricey but its been the one thing that I’ve found rests my mind when it's travelling at 100 miles an hour. If your day-to-day routine is especially unusual at the moment, it may be tempting to stay up late and sleep later into the day. However I urge you to keep your sleeping patterns as regular as possible- your body will thank you for it!

23.01.2022 The pain of Coccyx (tailbone) injury is felt at the bottom tip of the spine. The most common causes are direct trauma, or from pregnancy and childbirth. While it can be frustrating to manage, Greg has some suggestions to help minimise your pain through stabilising your tailbone while it heals.

19.01.2022 Today we look at my second recommendation for supporting your immune system. 2. Probiotics - Take probiotics daily, eat pre-biotic foods, and eat fermented foods. Are you aware that over 80% of your immune cells live in your gut tissue?! It is so important to take care of your gut health by consuming foods with pre-biotics like veggies, fruits, onions and garlic, or probiotics like sauerkraut, kimchi, kombucha, and coconut kefir. I also recommend taking a daily probiotic supplement; I use Bioceuticals Ultrabiotic 60 or Probiotic Foods Everyone Blend 200. If you wish to purchase the Bioceuticals brand this is something we can help facilitate, otherwise you can source the Probiotics food brand from Funki Munki in Inverell.

18.01.2022 Correct shoulder positioning is key for injury prevention, whether it be for work or play Not only can scapular stability help in the prevention of rotator cuff injuries, it can also make a world of difference for improving recurrent shoulder pain.

17.01.2022 If you have ever woken up with really bad NECK PAIN and felt like you were 'FROZEN' and couldn't turn your neck, you may have had a condition known as torticollis. Your head might even look 'crooked' in the mirror! This is a common occurrence we see in our practice. There are some basic exercises that can help ease the pain and get your neck moving again

17.01.2022 My final recommendation to support your immune system can best be described as: 7. Sit back and "take stock" . Life as we know it is very, very different at the moment. Rather than feeling frustrated by the changes, try to embrace the slower pace as a time for reflecting on how you have been living. Look at your health as a battery- everything we eat, how we move and what we think has a profound effect on your overall health. Take inventory of these life domains and ask your...self the question is my battery being recharged regularly? Is each decision I make adding to my health, or is it taking away from it? Be calm. Be a leader. Be a part of the solution, and lead by example. In health, Greg

06.01.2022 Today we'll look at my third recommendation for protecting your immune system: 3. Avoid large doses of sugar! While this is really hard to do (especially when we're feeling a bit low), sugar is scientifically shown to immediately suppress immune function. On a cellular level sugar and vitamin C share the same ‘gateway’. However, cells will absorb sugar first and effectively block the absorption of Vitamin C. Vitamin C is a super potent antioxidant that provides vital support for your immune system- aim for maximum absorption and ditch the sugar!

06.01.2022 Today we're going to look at my sixth recommendation for supporting your immune system: 6. Consider supplementation. If you are having trouble consuming enough fruit and vegetables at the moment, it may be worth considering taking vitamin supplements. In addition to my probiotics, I have added daily Vitamin C and Magnesium supplements to help support my immune system as we enter winter. Check with your GP or local pharmacist about which supplements may be beneficial for you.

06.01.2022 The COVID-19 situation is a very serious situation and is constantly evolving. The Health Minister at this stage has encouraged private practices to remain open, as it would reduce demand on general practice and the hospitals if patients could still seek help for musculoskeletal and acute care management. We recognise our role is twofold First as health practitioners here to help our community and secondly our obligation to isolate as much as possible to help flatten thi...s curve. Given the complexities of this we have decided to provide opening hours limited to the following times for this week; Wednesday 1st: 8am 12pm Friday 3rd: 8am 11am Saturday 4th: 8am 12pm We will continue to keep everyone updated with our opening hours each week as we get closer and would like to apologise in advance if your appointments are affected in the future. Also note we are stringently following the following protocols in the office and apologise for any inconvenience they may create. All patients who have had contact with someone who has returned from overseas please reschedule to a later date. Asking you to use antiseptic hand rubs on entry and exit of the facility. Please do not attend the practice if you have a fever or respiratory illness, or if you fit the recent Government criteria for self isolation for 14 days. In Health, Our team

05.01.2022 Today we will have a short and sweet look at my fifth recommendation for supporting your immune system. 5. Exercise - Routine exercise has been shown to improve EVERYTHING in your life, including a healthy immune system. Do not hibernate during this period! Be intentional to keep active, without over-exerting yourself. While team sports and gym activities may not be possible at the moment, you can still go for a walk, run or bike ride in the fresh air.

04.01.2022 My fourth recommendation for protecting your immune system is.... 4. Stress reduction - Minimise stress by turning OFF THE NEWS. While this is a continually evolving situation and there is a responsibility to remain informed, I’ve found checking the updates once in the morning and once at night is a great way to stay informed without being overwhelmed. Also be aware of social media (don't worry, I appreciate the irony). Social media is a fantastic tool to easily touch base... with family, friends and colleagues, and can provide a welcome distraction. However, be mindful to protect yourself from being completely inundated with the media and information, and be discerning about your sources! Try setting an alarm to remind yourself to breathe in and out, slowly and deeply from the bottom of your rib cage every hour or so. Relax your shoulders to let the tension out; tilt your head gently to one side and then the other. Reducing the stress in your body will often help to clear your mind as well.

04.01.2022 Thank you for who you are and all that you do! Have a wonderful day

01.01.2022 One of the common complaints we see in the practice is lower back tension A simple knee to chest stretch can release lower back tension. It can be performed as often as needed after sitting, exercising , or working
