19.01.2022 This month marks 20 years since the Olympic Games were held in Sydney, so what better way to remember this remarkable event than with this book. : , , ... {blurb} Published in association with the International Olympic Committee, 'The History of the Olympic Games: Faster, Higher, Stronger' brings to life, through more than 200 photographs and dozens of artefacts reproduced on the page, the glorious history of the Olympic Games. From their origins in Ancient Greece to their revival in a contemporary form in 1896, through the subsequent modern Games, this exceptional title beautifully charts the event's absorbing history. 'The history of the Olympic Games' allows readers to personally experience a piece of Olympic heritage as they examine rare equipment, browse fascinating memorabilia and study important Olympic documents from throughout the history of the Games. Now available for loan at the library.

19.01.2022 & True crime fans, this one is for you... {blurb} Bordered on one side by the glistening blue of the Pacific, hemmed by pristine sandy coves, and on the other by the rugged bushland of Ku-ring-gai National Park, it was the kind of place where everyone knew everyone. No wonder the area was known as 'the Insular Peninsula'. So, when popular local 18-year-old Trudie Adams disappeared one night while hitchhiking home from the surf club dance, her family, friends and community were devastated. It just seemed wrong that something so terrible could happen in a place so picturesque. But as police began to investigate, the underbelly of the peninsula was exposed. It was a place where surfers ran drugs home from Bali, teenagers hitchhiked everywhere due to a lack of public transport, predatory men prowled the streets, and countless young women were abducted and raped, crimes rarely reported or, if they were, rarely investigated. Inspired by the Walkley Award-shortlisted #1 podcast and acclaimed ABC TV series, and containing information never previously revealed, is a compelling expose of why the disappearance of Trudie Adams was never solved. It takes us all the way to the top - from a criminal perpetrator with a lifelong record and links to organised crime who was never formally accused, to police corruption at the highest level. . . . Now available for loan at the library, or check out our range of true crime books. For assistance please see library staff.

13.01.2022 ... {blurb} Widower Sam Costello has no time for love. When he's not working on his farm, he's trying to figure out how to connect with his teenage son Levi. But Levi is about to finish high school and he has big plans to move to Sydney for university with his best friend Maddie. If only he didn't feel so guilty about abandoning his dad. Maddie has her own reasons for wanting to go to Sydney and she's not going to let Levi's dad ruin her future happiness. Mr Costello needs a girlfriend and, with her talent for matchmaking, Maddie is the girl to make it happen. By the time Mr C figures out what she's done, surely he'll be too in love to be angry. Journalist Sarah Lewis has a good job, a nice boyfriend and a safe life in Sydney. Though sometimes she wonders if life has more to offer than nice and safe. When she starts working on an article about finding love in the outback she finds herself asking whether journalists should become this invested in their research. But there's just something about "Lonely in Longreach". Could it be that the man behind the dating profile is the key to the passion she has been looking for? This new rural romance is now available to borrow at the library.

01.01.2022 For families who have children involved in our book week challenge. Our goals are to help you learn more about the beanstack program we have invested in and to celebrate books and the love of reading. While this challenge encourages exploration of the book week nominated books logging any of your child’s reading will count and earn a ticket in the prize draw. Reviewing any book will earn a ticket in the prize draw. The activity badges however are specific to the books that hav...e been short listed for the book week awards so you can only earn a ticket in the prize draw when you have read these specific books. We want to encourage children to read and to reward them for doing that and we want you to explore the different ways a challenge can be set up, that is with logging reading and completing activities. Our suggestion when selecting books with your child for this challenge would be that you explore the amazing Australian authors and illustrators that have been recognised as part of the book week awards but that you also allow your child to read from genres and authors that cater to their interests. Have fun, we are looking forward to seeing what our friends are reading. See more
