24.01.2022 Bowling conditions at Inverloch on Thursday, October 15 started out warm but during the second game the cool breeze came in and jackets went on. Forty bowlers took to the greens to contest a Triples match over two games of 12 ends each. The Club also welcomes two new members to the ranks; Rhonda and Peter Sutton. Ten teams managed to win at least one game with four of those winning both games and having just three points separating the four teams. Special mention should ...go to two of those teams that didn’t make it into the money positions, and they were, with two wins, Craig Selby, Pat Sheedy and Geoff Coleman (skip) with 33 points and just beaten by Terry Orford, Cynthia Hensley and Brian Humphris (skip) on 34 points. Runners up, also with two wins, was the team of John Hallas, Doug Archer and Gavan Butler (skip) finishing with 35 points. Winners of the Thursday mufti social bowls, with two wins and 36 points were Bob Plowright, Pam Sutcliffe and John French (skip). The next mufti social bowls is scheduled for Thursday, October 22, and the Match Committee has requested that all players be at the Club and ready to play within 15 minutes of the scheduled commencement time of 12:30pm. Your prompt readiness will ensure that the match can start on time. On Saturday, October 17, the Club participated in a practice Saturday Pennant match against the Leongatha Club, on their greens with numbers restricted to 20 players from each club. The representative teams focused on First and Second Division players with a sprinkling of others who were gaining some experience in the higher divisions. The Club also held an intra club pennant practice match (mufti) last Saturday for those that didn’t travel to Leongatha, to get a feel of the action. Each player had the opportunity practice some of the skills required to be successful under Saturday Pennant conditions. As of writing this column, details of the 2020/2021 pennant season are quite sketchy with the South Gippsland Bowling Division (SGBD) having held their AGM yesterday, Monday, October 19 to thrash out finer details of the season. Further details will be published as they become available regarding the season length and format. The Match Committee has released details of the Club Championships for 2020/2021 with entries now being accepted. Entry forms are available at the Clubhouse and close on Friday, October 23, 2020; late entries and entries completed incorrectly will not be considered.

23.01.2022 Again, this column has to report the sad news of the passing, peacefully, last Wednesday, September 30, of Ann Humphris, a Social Member of the Club. Ann is the wife of staunch Inverloch Bowling Club member, Brian Humphris and the Club extends to Brian, family and their friends deepest condolences at this difficult time. Vale Ann. With respect to mufti social bowling at the Club, Saturday, October 10 will be the final mufti social bowls for the time being. Social bowling...Continue reading

22.01.2022 The first Thursday mufti social bowls for 2021 took place on January 7 where 40 bowlers attended to compete in a three bowl; triples match over two games of 10 ends each. It was good to welcome visitors, Liz Jacobs and Kim Di Marzio to the club and also welcome back to bowls play Past President Ron Burge as well as the Northern traveler, Huie Nation. There was a mixed bag in the final results of the day where there were teams who failed to win a game, six teams who manag...Continue reading

22.01.2022 Great to see visitors to our area enjoying the bowls experience and the after refreshments at the bar. Weather could not have been more perfect.

22.01.2022 It would seem our lovely ladies director Bev Kurrle is not only a talented Cook/Caterer for the club but also an amazing cultivator. As seen in this weeks issue of the Sentinel Times Newspaper. Well done Bev, very clever gardening. Note: this was a joint effort with her neighbour

18.01.2022 Great response to our Barefoot Bowls with nights ranging from 40 entries to 80. Our thanks to the community for their support and also to our amazing volunteers and organisers who makes these nights a success.

17.01.2022 A fine field of 48 bowlers attended the Club to contest a ‘three bowl’; Triple’s match over two games of 10 ends each. Before we get into the Triple’s match and on a lighter note, a review of the entry list revealed an interesting contestant who was famously known for his television roles on The Rag Trade and On the Buses, one Reg Varney. This correspondent is unsure how Mr. Varney was able to enter the competition as a non-member hailing from beyond the grave and having died...Continue reading

16.01.2022 INVERLOCH Thursday, October 8, 2020 opened with threatening weather however this didn’t stop some 34 players attending the Club for social bowls which consisted of a four’s and triple’s match over two games of ten ends each. Before we get down to who won and who didn’t, it was great to see both Peter Dalmau and David Murfin back on the greens at Inverloch It was also a big welcome to our new member, Heather Twyerould, ex Metung, Vic. Also, welcome back to the club, vis...Continue reading

Please note that these conditions of play may be revised at any time but are applicable as at time of writing this column. Following on from last week’s column in which was a paragraph describing Dianne Selby’s... foray into the State Novice ladies Championship, Dianne met Jan Reeves (Wonthaggi) at Leongatha last Tuesday. The match was a test for Dianne with Jan having more experience, however Dianne was not disgraced, Jan taking the match and will now go on to represent the SGBD in future matches. Well done Dianne. Several State, Over 60’s events have been played over the past week or two and this column will bring the results to you next week. A fine field of players came to Inverloch on Thursday, November 26 to contest a Four’s and Triples match over two games, one of 12 ends, the other over 10. Almost all teams managed to win at least one game with two teams winning both of their encounters, which demonstrated the Match Committee got the team structures pretty much right on the day. The Runners-up and hard luck story as it turned out; with two wins and 37 points was the team of Carol Thorn (skip), Jack Miller, Terry Orford and Alan Johnstone. Just pipping Carol’s team was the team of Doug Archer (skip), Rob Howard, Arthur Moule and Chris Nevill, scoring two wins and 38 points. The next mufti social bowls is scheduled for Thursday, December 3, and the Match Committee has requested that all players be at the Club and ready to play at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled commencement time of 12:30pm. Your prompt readiness will ensure that delays can be minimised. Report by Reg Varty

06.01.2022 News of the 2020/2021 Saturday and Midweek Pennant Seasons remain scarce and at the time of writing this column, precise details of any play is sketchy at best. We can only sit and await any determination from the South Gippsland Bowls Division. Watch this column for any update which will be reported as soon as they become available. In the meantime, social mufti bowls will be held on Saturdays as well as the usual Thursday event. Entry sheets for both days are available with...in the clubhouse. Again, another strong field of over 40 bowlers attended the Inverloch Bowling Club on Thursday, November fifth to contest a ‘two bowl’ Four’s match over two games of 10 ends each. Only three teams were able to win both of their games in the stiff breeze and the Match Committee was again required to consult their calculators to determine the overall winner. Taking out the Hard Luck Story with two wins, but not getting into the calculator games with only 32 points, was the team of Heather Twyerould (skip), Paul Davis and Jeff Curwood. Out comes the calculator. Holding the runners-up position on the dais, with two wins, 34 points and 11 shots up was the tram of Peter Shaw (skip), Robbie Howard, Jill Bateman and Gavin Blew. The winners of the Thursday mufti social bowls at Inverloch, with two wins, 34 points and a respectful 18 shots up, was the team of Gavan Butler (skip), Reg Varty, Veronica Muir and Laurel Lee. Saturday’s mufti social bowls event was a Fours/Triples match over two games of 10 ends each. The threatening weather early on Saturday morning probably kept a few bowlers at home, but what a great day it turned out to be! Three teams were able to win both games and it was noted that the Match Committee’s calculator was again brought into action to determine which team would take second place. With two wins, 26 points and one shot up, taking the Hard Luck Story for the day, was the team of Martin Hannaford (skip), Arthur Moule, Bob Plowright and for the first time in dispatches, Karen Orford (Mrs. I don’t see the problem). Just pipping Martin’s team, with two wins, 26 points and four shots up and getting into the money, was the triples team of Gavan Butler (skip),Diane Coleman. The clear winner of Saturday’s mufti social bowls, with two wins and 32 points was the team of Geoff Coleman (skip), Pat Sheedy, Terry Orford (with bragging rights at home), and Jeff Curwood. The next mufti social bowls is scheduled for Thursday, November 12, and the Match Committee has requested that all players be at the Club and ready to play at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled commencement time of 12:30pm. Your prompt readiness will ensure that delays can be minimised. With the Club Championships now well and truly underway, it is important that each match is completed by the due date. This column wishes all competitors the very best of bowling and may you all do well.

05.01.2022 We had a fabulous night of bowls to end our Corporate season, with our two top teams playing off for the coveted trophy. Winners on the night were the Chokers. Mambo put up a great fight but just couldn’t topple the top team. All other teams played as per usual with Bowling Stones winning the night and HKC girls slipping in for second spot. All bowlers were treated to Hamburgers whilst they enjoyed refreshments from the bar on completion,of play. With bowlers handing back their prize money, a total of $510 was raised over the season for the new Cancer centre in Wonthaggi. Our Corporate Bowlers contribute a lot to our club and we thank them for their continued support. We look forward to seeing everyone back on the greens in October.
