25.01.2022 Burning off grass, stubble, weeds, undergrowth or other vegetation is generally permitted outside the Fire Danger Period. Local laws on burn-offs can apply year...-round. Check with your local council before lighting up. Before burning off: > Check and follow local regulations or laws set down by CFA or your local council > Notify neighbours at least two hours before starting the burn > Notify the Emergency Services Telecommunications Authority (ESTA) on 1800 668 511 > Check the weather forecast for the day of the burn and a few days afterwards > Check the fuel moisture conditions Establish a fire break of no less than three metres cleared of all flammable material > Make sure there are enough people to monitor, contain and extinguish the burn safely and effectively. Register your burn-off All burn-offs should be registered with ESTA on 1800 668 511. Please provide the following information about your burn-off when registering: > Location > Date and expected start and finish times > Estimated size > What you intend to burn Unregistered burn-offs can cause brigades to be called out unnecessarily.

23.01.2022 CFA has received a number of calls from community members regarding bonfires to mark the ‘Spark in the Dark’ event this evening. We appreciate those who are tha...nking our frontline workers, but urge you to keep fire safety front of mind. As today’s conditions are windy in some areas we are urging those who wish to participate to not do so by lighting bonfires or using fire pits. If you are choosing to light a candle, please ensure it is monitored by an adult and extinguished properly. You might like to mark the event by using a torch or outside light. Thank you and stay safe.

22.01.2022 Two concerned residents have asked that this information be circulated: 1. Kangaroos - we are all aware that there are a few mobs of kangaroos on our three main roads Swinglers, White Swan and Slatey Ck Rd Nth- Please drive carefully. One large roo was hit on White Swan Rd recently. A couple of mobs are adjacent to Swinglers Rd near the school, and Swinglers-Acacia area and there are many more you know of. 2. Illegal rubbish dumping. Thanks to all who collect litter on their daily walks. However our bush is also a known dumping area. A Tambo Rd resident has recently come upon a dump of hard waste - child's car seats, toys, microwave as well as other household rubbish nr John Bull Rod and Chasselas Rd. Please report these dumps to the local council or police who can often find evidence in the rubbish leading to those responsible.

21.01.2022 Hi all. A pug dog was sighted in the emergency access between Eucalyptus Drive and Carrimar Drive today at about 10am. It was frightened and unable to be appr...oached by a resident. About an hour later I was walking my dog and encountered two different people looking for him. His name is 'Noodles' and he usually lives in Mt Helen but is (was?) currently in the care of friends. Please be on the lookout so he can be reunited with his family. :) See more

15.01.2022 In May this year, Nary and her family were eating breakfast when they heard a faint beeping noise. Within a matter of minutes, the entire top storey of their ho...use was alight, from a fire likely started by a faulty electrical blanket. Nary’s whole family were able to safely escape with just the clothes on their back, and credit their safe evacuation to having a working smoke alarm. Install interconnected smoke alarms in all bedrooms and living areas, and ensure you test batteries monthly. Only working smoke alarms save lives.
