On the other hand, traditional braces usually last for around 2 years so in that respect, yes, Invisalign does work faster because the trays are customised at a digital level. After a couple of days when the teeth start moving, you will most likely experience some discomfort and perhaps tenderness. If the brackets are rubbing against your cheeks, you can use dental wax to stop it. 13.01.2022 Invisalign vs Braces Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment using a series of aligners. Each aligner has a small amount of movement built-in so when you put in the first aligner, it wont quite fit but then the pressure of the aligner will cause the teeth to gradually move into the position where they fit snuggly. Once this happens, as per your doctors prescription, you will move to the next aligner in the series. Patients commonly change their aligners between every 4 to ...10 days, depending on their needs. This doesnt mean you need to visit your orthodontic practice often because your doctor will usually give you several aligners at a time. Some Doctors will want to see you around every 10 to 12 weeks with some Doctors will space this time out much further. On the other hand, braces work by moving your teeth using brackets and wires. Your doctor may change from thinner wires to thicker wires, and they may also put bends in the wires to direct the teeth where to go. Youll usually have to visit the orthodontic practice more regularly with braces than with clear aligners, with the average patient going in every 6 to 12 weeks. Braces arent set and forget because you do need to ensure you eat the right foods to avoid breakages, keep them super clean to avoid staining around the brackets and use orthodontic wax should you feel that an ulcer is coming from the brackets rubbing onto the lip or cheeks. Invisalign and other clear aligners are great for oral hygiene as they are easy to take out to brush and floss your teeth. And dont worry - if youre going swimming or playing sports, they wont fall out. In the hands of the right doctor, you could get the same results with Invisalign that you could with braces, sometimes even better and even faster. Depending on your treatment plan, your orthodontist will recommend one of the following types; the Hawley retainer made of metal and acrylic, the Essix retainer which looks like an Invisalign tray and is made of clear plastic or a permanent retainer which is glued to the back of your teeth.
