25.01.2022 Are you doing #plasticfreejuly? Here’s another way you may be being exposed to plastic without being aware of it - through your tampons or pads. You may not know that the majority of sanitary products sold in Australia contain plastic. But the good news is, there are now many convenient alternatives available. Are you already using reusable options?

21.01.2022 Most of us are now aware of the risks associated with heating food in plastic, but when you start to go down this road, you begin to see many opportunities to rethink how we do things. For example, have you considered your kettle? Most kettles that are sold contain some plastic - as a minimum in the gauge that shows how full the kettle it is. There are fully stainless steel options but another alternative is to return to a stainless steel stove-top version. What do you think, would you switch back to a kettle that whistles when it’s done?

20.01.2022 Apologies to all our patients who had trouble getting in touch with us over the Christmas period. We experienced some disruption to our phone (and fax) service and our phone provider was not able to get it resolved as quickly as we would have liked due to the holiday period. Our phones are back up and running, but we are still liaising with our provider to fix the fax line. If you tried to contact us for an appointment and were unable to reach us, please get in touch again and we will do our best to accommodate you!

20.01.2022 Have you had a better exercise regime in the last few months? Or have you fallen off the wagon? Many of us struggle to fit exercise into our daily routines. There are lots of reasons why busy modern lives often make exercise seem too difficult, but here are 3 ways you can change your perception and overcome the blocks to exercising: Time: In just 20mins of exercise, you can experience health benefits such as reduced inflammation, boosted mood and improved circulation.... Motivation: Recognise what motivates you. If you love spending time with friends, try to incorporate a walk or run in your time together. Bribe yourself with your favourite show while on the treadmill! Fun: Make sure you’re choosing something that you enjoy. There are so many options! Dance, sport, swimming, bushwalking or online Zumba so many options to try out!

20.01.2022 Have you heard of the latest exercise trend? Blue Zone workouts are perfect for this time, because it doesn’t require a gym, doesn’t cost a cent and doesn’t even require us to schedule in exercise. The idea is that exercise and movement shouldn’t be distinct from the rest of our lives. Humans are made to move and the Blue Zones approach encourages incidental physical activity.

18.01.2022 Many of us are feeling the strain of social distancing or isolation. We may have financial pressures, or concerns for the health of our family members. Each person will be different, but here's a place to start in looking after your mental health. (And if you need more help to figure out what might work for you, give us a call.)

11.01.2022 It’s become pretty clear that how you process or cook a food makes a huge difference in how our bodies respond to it. A good example is soy - which in the last two decades has gone from being seen as one of the healthiest foods to one that is associated with negative health impacts such as thyroid issues. Further research is helping us make sense of it all. A recent study out of Japan has found that consuming fermented soy - like traditional Japanese foods natto and miso - i...s associated with a much lower risk of mortality than eating non-fermented soy products like tofu. Often the modern push towards convenience foods means that even when we choose healthy foods, they are not being prepared in the way that makes them most agreeable to our bodies. Do you use any traditional methods to prepare food?

11.01.2022 A study from the University of Newcastle suggests that an average person could be ingesting approximately 5 grams of microplastic every week! Research is still in the early days but here are a few steps you can take to reduce your intake.

01.01.2022 Why is #PlasticFreeJuly such a big thing? Well, chemicals such as BPA and Phthalates are widely added to food and drink packaging, and some studies have shown that more than 90% of people have BPA in their bodies! Research from Harvard explains some of the health impacts associated with plastic and food, and offers these common sense tips for reducing some of the risks: - Use heat wisely - Plastics release more chemicals when heated, so avoid heating foods in plastic containers in the microwave. - Skip packaging - When possible, opt against buying products that are stored in plastics.
