20.01.2022 Does your business have what it takes. 1. Is it working? In order to franchise a business, the business model must first be proven. There’s no law, of course, requiring that a franchisor demonstrate competence, but there’s a certain number of practical considerations. In order to establish credibility to sell franchises, you’ll need to show you’ve got a successful operating prototype. Massage Envy came to us in 2002 with only two prototype locations operating a bit less than one year, but the business model was already demonstrating consistently strong unit performance and consumer acceptance. Additionally, John’s past experience as an owner and operator of various health clubs meant his learning curve was substantially lower than most new business owners would be.

19.01.2022 Did you know... that the franchise sector is estimated to contribute $128 billion to the Australian economy.

18.01.2022 Does your business have what it takes. Can you sell it? In order to be franchisable, the business model also needs to be attractive to potential franchisees. While it is difficult to quantify salability, factors such as credibility, uniqueness, and brand sizzle all contribute. Though a young business, Massage Envy’s management team had good credibility and the concept had sizzle by the bucketful. Moreover, they already had a handful of unsolicited franchise inquiries always a good sign when it comes to salability.

16.01.2022 Do you have an eye for the finer things in life?

15.01.2022 Risk Overall, I believe that if it’s done correctly, and in the appropriate framework, that it lowers your business risk, let me explain how that works. Well, one of the things that significantly increases risk is having to increase your debt. So when you look at what franchising is, it is a model in which you are able to generate working capital, in order to expand and scale your business, that’s one of the key benefits of the franchise model. ... Instead of you actually going through and developing your business in various geographic locations, whether it’s within your own zone or state or nationally, you’re able to effectively scale your business, whilst using the working capital, and the funds that you acquire through the franchise model. So by being able to so what that means is expansion is always funded with capital, non debt capital. And so that would significantly reduce your risk. The other part of it is when you’re looking at expanding in new areas geographically there are different needs when running your business in these various geographic locations. From our experience we have found that it varies from city to city, certainly from state or province to province, and certainly across different countries. So one of the advantages of the franchising model is that you engage people to join your business, who are business owners, but also have local knowledge and local expertise networks. So instead of you having to take all the risk in the in entering into new geographical markets, you’re able to share that risk effectively, by bringing or lower that risk by bringing onboard people who not only have an investment or some skin in the game, but also local presence, local networks, local knowledge, and the ability to get things done in that local zone. So that’s another aspect that will significantly reduce your risk as well. Read more: https://invizbiz.com/blog/risk/

13.01.2022 Risk The other aspect of what franchising enables you to do is to expand geographically, as I mentioned before, with a lower risk profile in areas that you may have not done so before. So if it’s within one location, there’s significantly more risk if things take place that impact on that location and your narrow revenue stream. When you’re spread throughout multiple geographic locations, you have the ability to spread your risk across all these locations. And what we’ve typ...ically found is that when one location is down after something is impacting in one spot, it’s not impacting on the other areas. So by doing this, you’re effectively reducing the Risk of your business and the susceptibility to local impacts that might take place. So an example is in Australia, where my businesses are based, they’re very different marketplaces right across the country. And so typically if one marketplace is strong, you might have another marketplace, which is weak. But this diversification geography through a structured franchise model reduces this type of risk, which is often outside your control. So that’s another aspect of the franchising model that can help you manage and lower the risk of your business. With the normal expansion framework that you have, often, you need to engage in employing more people. And when you do this, it can if you’re bringing people into your organization, depending on the onboarding and training system that you have, it may take three or four weeks up to a month and a half before these people are actually productive. This is always the case with the recruitment process itself, and is always challenging and when I talk to business owners, finding the right people is one of the key challenges that really never goes away. So in relation to risk associated with the employment side of things, you’re significantly reducing that as well. Because your delivery of your product or your service is going to be managed and handled by franchisees. And it’s, it’s quite different. When you’re bringing franchisees in your business, they have got skin in the game, which means they’ve got money that they put down on the table. And they’ve also trained on their own time. And you know, they’re not just going to be there for three months, four months or five months, because there’s a financial commitment and a contractual relationship for them to operate that business for five years or 10 years or whether you may have structured that. So this enables you to reduce the risk of scaling and expansion by effectively less reliance on employees in the marketplace. Read more: https://invizbiz.com//reduce-business-risks-franchising-b/

13.01.2022 Franchise facts and history of McDonald’s Did you know The real boom for the franchising industry came during the baby boom era. World War II was over, the world was getting back on its feet, and people needed lots of new products and services. This gave rise to a string of new franchises throughout the 1950s and 1960s, including one that would eventually morph into the biggest fast food chain in the world McDonald’s.... One of the more interesting McDonald’s franchise facts relates to how it evolved from a humble burger stall to a chain of restaurants. The person credited for this success wasn’t one of the McDonald brothers but Raymond Albert Croc. Before stumbling onto McDonald’s, Croc was selling milkshake mixers. One day, he learned that his regular customers, the McDonald brothers, managed to use eight of his machines at the same time like a conveyor belt. Coincidentally, the brothers were looking to turn their business into a franchise. It was a match made in heaven, and just a few years later, there were 500 restaurants across the United States. Today, about 80% of all McDonald’s locations are franchises. Read more: https://invizbiz.com/blog/franchise-fun-facts-3/

11.01.2022 Prospective franchisees will use different methods and media to seek out the right opportunities when it comes to finding a franchise. All have their place and all offer different benefits. Magazines are useful because they allow you to look at a cross section of franchises, in your own time, with no disturbances. Exhibitions provide another means of learning about different franchises but with the added benefit of being able to talk to a number of franchisors under one roof.

08.01.2022 Pandemic Emphasizes Upside of the Drive-Thru for Franchises Our direct competitors are currently doing 65% of their business in drive-thrus. Along with online ordering and delivery, the drive-thru is essential right now. ~ Jeremy Biser, executive vice president of Roy Rogers (in August 2020) The drive-thru. Consumers have been dining-on-the-go via this serving method since 1946 (or the early 1930s, if you ask some). In a year when franchise restaurant dining rooms were larg...ely shuttered, or limited in capacity for most of it, we’ve all come to realize just how much we’ve taken the drive-thru for granted. As stated in QSR Magazine, many have theorized that drive-thru, curbside, and ghost-kitchen-powered delivery will become the beating heart of food service’s future. With social distancing now a part of daily life, many Americans have a new outlook on the traditionally crowded dining room, and are responding by continuing to order food to eat off premises.
