12.01.2022 B A Y V I E W | And so it begins... our series on this large, water-front property located on Sydney's Pittwater that we were lucky to work on and remodel. The brief was fairly simple - modernise the house and take it from outdated to 'wow' without fully gutting it - however executing the brief and working within the antiquated electrical and flooring constraints of the house were a different story. Two levels, a complete redesign and extension of the mas...ter suite, five bedrooms, two bathrooms, several living and dining areas, a home office and seven months later, our job was done. 09.01.2022 T H A T ' S A W R A P ! Well 2020, you are almost over and as unprecedented and tumultuous as you've been you haven't been all bad for ILI. You came with your lessons and taught us to be resilient, self-reliant and take risks - which thankfully have paid off. We've expanded our little team to four, undergone studio renovations, started our re-branding process, added some exciting projects to our portfolio that will mostly unfold in 2021 and welcomed new suppliers, contrac...tors and artisans into the ILI fold. But more importantly, we've created some beautiful spaces and special homes for our clients. For this and being able to do what we LOVE every single day we come to work, we are truly grateful. Thank you to our wonderful clients for entrusting us with your precious homes and backing our creative vision. It's a privilege I don't take for granted and when that client-designer balance is right, we soar, excel, do our best work and give you not only an extraordinary new home but a renewed footprint for living. Thank you also to all our amazing suppliers, the talented builders, craftsmen and artisans we work with who bring our work to life. It's always a team effort and if it weren't for you, our designs would mostly live and die on paper. And last but not least, thank you to my awesome team, these talented, committed and dedicated young women who make me shine every day. 07.01.2022 CONCORD HOUSE | The brief for this teenager's room was boho chic, a room that would take its occupant into early adulthood - at least until she moves out. We stayed within a neutral palette and added lashes of texture and materiality in everything from the cane bedhead to the chunky wool rug, Mongolian fur stool and feather Juju hat wall decoration to the timber beaded chandelier. It's a room that's unpretentious and easy to live in, but that hugs you like favourite blanket o...n a wintery night. 02.01.2022 As we near Christmas and the end of the year, let's spend a couple of minutes pondering on the wisdom of this quote. And not so much on the fact that as designers we have to be masters of editing, but on the fact that as humans we love to accumulate things and fill our lives with more. But more is not always better and rarely is it best. More just ends up being a way of filling an internal void or lack within ourselves and it sadly ends up as landfill years later. .... Buy well, buy quality, but things - furnishings, art, objects - that are timeless and fill your heart with joy. You really don't need more and then when we come into your homes, we can simply supplement what's missing and wave our editing wand ever so slightly (as opposed to having to cut, cull and cajole you into letting go). Let go of the superfluous, not needed 'stuff' that swallows up rooms and takes over our life.
