23.01.2022 Metal salvaged from an Australian ship sunk during World War II was transformed into 77 Christian crosses and gifted by Japan to a church in Darwin. What an amazing story of reconciliation! Prime Minister Scott Morrison mentioned this story in his speech at an event held recently to mark the 75th Anniversary of the end of WW II. Just as unusual as the gift itself is the story behind this story. Mike Brown of IofC Australia explains.... https://au.iofc.org/ruins-war-sworn-enemies-became-our-devo #worldwar2 #reconciliation

22.01.2022 There have been changes at IofCA recently. A changing of guard - paving the way for new faces to continue the work our long-standing friends started. At the AGM on 26 July 2020, long-serving board member Andrew Lancaster did not seek re-election at the end of his term, which ended this year. Andrew chaired the IofC Australia board for eight years, and served on it for more than 40 years.... On the Operations side, Athalia Zwartz resigned as Executive Officer at the end of June, after six years leading the programs and administration of IofC Australia. As IofC Australia’s first paid employee in a management role, she consolidated the delivery of IofC programs and built a solid administrative team, while keeping alive the volunteer essence and ethic of the movement. Read more about their contribution to IofCA through the years here: https://au.iofc.org/seasonal-shift-changing-guard-iofc-aust We thank them for their contribution and wish them all the very best.

12.01.2022 Australian journalist Chris Mayor was one of the first in the Western world to interview the mayors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Shinzo Hamai and Hiroshi Ohashi in 1950. 08.01.2022 This movie trailer features Mike Brown, IofC Australia, speaking about the ritual murder of his great-great uncle, James Brown, by Aboriginal people in 1852. Mike’s search for answers in history led to an encounter with an Aboriginal stockman in South Australia, and the chance to piece together the First Nations’ side of the story, handed down through generations as an oral history of displacement, violence, and trauma. ABC TV has taken out acquisition rights to broadcast th...is documentary on their Sunday Compass program during NAIDOC week in July 2021. The film will then be adapted for an exhibition at the SA Museum, and a study guide will be available for community and school groups. Before that can happen, however, funding has to be found to cover production costs. $87,000 is being sought before the end of December. Provisional grants have been offered by Screen Australia and the SA Film Commission, but they are dependent on this core funding being secured from philanthropic supporters first. Check out the trailer, and click to donate! https://documentaryaustralia.com.au/project/beyond-sorry-wt/
