25.01.2022 No commentary on this, thankfully. It would have spoiled it!

24.01.2022 Heron in the Hangar ---------------------------- In my #AustralianArmy career Ive been lucky. Flying Black Hawks and Chinooks on operations and being appointed as the Armys Official War Artist. But one of my more enjoyable jobs was deploying with the #RAAF as a #drone pilot to #Afghanistan where I was appointed Official #WarArtist for the RAAF. Heres the story behind this painting of a Heron Unmanned Aerial Vehicle that we operated. And a big shout out to all the guys and ...girls that I deployed with on the #Heron rotation. You were fantastic! --------------------------- To see more art, check out my Instagram page at https://www.instagram.com/ipas_aust/ or my webpage at www.ipas.com.au

22.01.2022 So the missus and I have had some ups and downs after her helicopter crash... (See here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGyPS4M8AnE&t=7s) ...but shes soldiering on helping other veterans with their physical and emotional struggles. If you want a good yarn, read her book (that I forced her to write) and check out her website.

21.01.2022 A new year; a new venture; new products... same ol me unfortunately. But time to fly the Aussie Flag, none-the-less!

13.01.2022 In my second podcast, we look at how Don Walker of Cold Chisel came to write the song Khe Sanh - which became an Australian classic - and what the lyrics mean. To listen, go to my website at www.ipas.com.au/pods-blogs-and-vlogs or to Spotify to download and listen later. https://open.spotify.com/show/2CGKDCF8tYYyL7GwXC9MzB

13.01.2022 SCAMMERS! SCAMMERS! SCAMMERS! Hey FB Friends. Someone just tried to scam me. Check out the cut and paste of the Messenger conversation I had with them and beware. Cheers, Conway.

13.01.2022 Hi, especially to all the New South Welshmen out there. Even though I live in the ACT, on Saturday I will be crossing the border to man a polling booth in support of Jim Molans re-election to the Federal Senate as a NSW representative in the Upper House. Heres a pamphlet I created so you get an idea of the sort of man we can have representing us. Military personnel will be familiar with much of this... but for those of you who do not come from military backgrounds, you may ...find this interesting when you weigh up the candidates. Vote 1 (below the line), Jim Molan for the Senate! Share this with your friends... especially those in NSW! #jimmolan #jimmolanforsenate #2019election

13.01.2022 Keep clean and carry on! --------------------------------- As the world goes crazy, history has taught us that these things are not new. One thing to do, beside...s keeping clean, is keeping our spirits up. Heres some advice from a New Zealand doctor to his community citing advice from their central health board in 1919 when they were combating the Spanish Flu. Note point 5.

09.01.2022 The song Khe Sanh should never have been a hit... but why was it? To find out the story behind this song and about the guy who wrote it, Don Walker, why not listen to my podcast where we take the Mystery out of History and look at Australian culture through the song Khe Sanh. 09.01.2022 C-130 Into Tarin Kot, Afghanistan By Major Conway Bown, Official RAAF War Artist, 2013. ---------------------------------------------------- In 2013 I was lucky enough to serve on exchange with the #RoyalAustraliaAirForce flying their large drone as an AVO an Air Vehicle Operator (Drone pilot). We flew every day and the missions were 16 hours long and we rotated in shifts: 2 hrs on, 2 hrs off, 2 hrs on, etc.... While there, I was appointed Official RAAF War Artist by the then Chief of Air Force with the task of capturing the RAAFs experience in Afghanistan. Here is one piece from that assignment. It shows the crew of a #RAAF C-130J #Hercules transport passing the mountains as it heads into the coalition base at Tarin Kot. It is done in pastel which is a type of chalk. #TarinKot was a large base that had US and Australian personnel as well as other coalition forces. 06.01.2022 The missus reciting The Ode for Anzac Day. Dont forget to watch her on the national service from the Australian War Memorial on the ABC starting at 5.30am. #forthefallen #anzacathome #showyourmedals Sharon Bown - Author/Public Speaker

06.01.2022 Thanks to all whove contributed so far. Todays International Nurses Day in this Year of the Nurse... a double whammy! Sharon Bown - Author/Public Speaker is lighting a fire under the fund-raising for a statue of nurse Vivian Bullwinkel to be placed in the Australian War Memorial. This will be the first to honour a servicewoman and the first to honour a nurse. So if you would like to see this remarkable Australian who cared for others her whole life and who showed incredible... bravery when she and her colleagues were machine-gunned by the Japanese and left to die and who managed to survive a Prisoner of War camp to later spend her life advocating for nurses and their training and welfare to help them care for those in need, then please consider donating a couple of bucks to this cause. Its tax deductable! Go to https://www.gofundme.com/f/i-need-1-from-400000-aussies-to- See more

05.01.2022 The wife is doing the national Anzac Day service response for veterans with the PM at the Australian War Memorial. To be televised nationally on the ABC News at 5.30am, Anzac Day. Very proud! Thanks to Geoff Stanwell for his support on his radio show. Sharon Bown - Author/Public Speaker

Thanks to Fleet Helicopters for the support and thanks to Chris Lane for his ongoing support. Jamie Maddocks Karen Roberts Amy Sheridan Toni Dakis Craig Ridley Amanda Walker Lucy Collingridge

01.01.2022 This watercolour painting that I created in 2013 is a scene that almost anyone in the #AustralianArmy or #RAAF or #RAN would understand if he or she has deployed on operations by Strat Air. Its called Waiting for the Herc. (if you have experienced this, read the end of this text.) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- (And if you have walked up the ramp of a Herc to deploy to Afghanistan, you may wish to see this video here: https://w...ww.youtube.com/watch?v=cq1YAlEZtKQ) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- It shows a member of the ADF standing on the tarmac at #Kandahar Airfield in Afghanistan - in this case a Flight Lieutenant from the Royal Australian Air Force who was a member of the Heron UAV detachment and with whom I served in Afghanistan in 2013 - waiting for the RAAF #C130 Hercules to fly us out of country for the long journey home to Australia after our tour of duty had been completed. In the background is a USAF #C17 about to take US service personnel home to the US. The image has been done in #watercolour and I think it shows the heat of the Afghanistan sun - made all the more unbearable by the concrete of the tarmac - and the brightness of the light of the midday sun. This painting is in the collection of the #RAAFMuseum and was part of the project where I had been appointed Official War Artist for the Royal Australian Air Force to record the RAAFs experience in Afghanistan. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IF YOUVE EXPERIENCED WALKING UP THE RAMP OF A HERC TO DEPLOY ON AN OPERATION OR EXERCISE, GIVE US A LIKE AND SHARE IT WITH SOMEONE YOU KNOW WHO HAS. TELL US WHAT EXERCISE OR OPERATION, TOO!
