12.01.2022 This little feathered dinosaur is so attuned to emotions. She just knows. A memory popped up on my phone of a baby Butters and it made me think of just how lucky I am to have her. ... She responds to the emotions around her. She comforts me when I’m tired or sad and she sings and dances with me when I’m feeling playful. She’s a beautiful mirror. I never thought a parrot would have the capacity to hold space but lately in the studio she’s been quietly listening when anyone is sharing their more challenging emotions. As if just to let the emotions be. A client notice this recently and I said that sometimes the best thing to do when someone feels sad is to be quiet and listen, and let them be sad without feeling alone. She said: thank you Butters. 04.01.2022 A growing self-advocacy movement in the autism community has led to an increasing focus among researchers on autistic burnout. Autistic burnout, as distinct fro...m workplace burnout (or pandemic burnout!), is a consequence of camouflaging, or masking, a strategy in which autistic people mimic allistic (non-autistic) behavior by modifying the way they interact, using scripts for small talk, forcing themselves to make eye contact or suppressing repetitive behaviors. These strategies can help autistic people in their jobs and relationships but have a huge mental load and can lead to autistic burnout.
