23.01.2022 IPS were honoured to have sponsored this year's Indigenous Round of the South West Football League in Western Australia. The Indigenous Recognition Game was held on August 30 at Kelly Park in Bunbury earlier this year, where Clubs and Leagues came together to recognise and celebrate the positive impact that Aboriginal Footballers have had on the game of Australian Rules Football. Well done to all of the players who played, and we look forward to the game next year!... 21.01.2022 "To me, NAIDOC Week means recognition, appreciation and celebration of my beautiful culture and my Aboriginality. NAIDOC Week provides an opportunity to recognise our Aboriginal and Indigenous cultures within Australia, and creates greater opportunities for learning and understanding. This is a time which allows both us as Aboriginal people and the wider community across Australia to appreciate our rich and diverse culture. It offers a platform for us to connect with our pe...ople, to be proud and united as one." Jada Morris is a proud descendant of both the Biripi and Dunghutti nations. Jada is a Project Assistant here at IPS, and she shares with us what NAIDOC Week means to her. #NAIDOC #NAIDOCWeek2020 #NAIDOC2020 #alwayswasalwayswillbe

20.01.2022 The Bunbury IPS team attended the NAIDOC 2020 Flag Raising Ceremony yesterday and despite a rainy morning, it was a wonderful way to welcome in NAIDOC Week with our local community. The event also marked the unveiling of two new artworks by local Wardandi artist Cassie Jetta, now to be permanently displayed in the Bunbury Hospital. We would like to share Cassies's beautiful interpretation of this year's NAIDOC theme, 'Always Was and Always Will Be', and thank her for all that... she contributes to our local community: ------- Kaya I always was and always will be resilient, I always was and always will be love. I will always rise each morning to see the new day, The new colours that bless us from above. They always was and will be teachers, Of a people who’s spirit is forever strong, Guiding us and leading the way, Taking us by the hand, Grandmother sing me your songs. We always was and will always be blessed, With connection to each other and to our land, From the deserts, forests and red dirt, To the mountains and the ocean sands. Always was and always willl be walking with respect and pride, For who we are and where we come from, Is nothing to hide. Always was and always will be, Remembering our past, Moving forward together, To heal, to learn, to last. This year has brought us closer, to our loved ones to cherish you see, To teach us that what matters most in our lives, Always was and always will be. 20.01.2022 The past two months have been important for Indigenous businesses and communities alike. October was Indigenous Business Month, and with NAIDOC Week just passed, now is an ideal and important time to be thinking about inclusivity and diversity within your organisation. A deep understanding of unconscious bias is critical when analysing the inclusivity of your workplace culture, and knowing where unconscious bias can emerge in a workplace allows you to be proactive in implemen...ting preventative strategies. Find out more, including three steps you can take to addressing unconscious bias - https://www.ipsau.com.au/all-news/unconscious-bias#/ #ipsau #unconsciousbias #diversity #inclusive #supportindigenous

12.01.2022 "NAIDOC Week is a time to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of the first peoples of Australia. It is an opportunity to educate and enlighten people who have very little to no knowledge of our culture. The NAIDOC Week celebrations encourage everyone to be a part of them. As we seek reconciliation, it is extremely important that all of Australia tries to understand our culture. The 2020 theme ""Always Was, Always Will Be" encourages me to look inwards. Who am I? H...ow was I raised? Where did I come from? What have I been through? Where am I now? Where am I going? I was brought up to be proud of who I am. I always was and always will be a proud Aboriginal woman." Melinda Ely is a proud Noongar woman from the Wiilman clan. Melinda is also our Bookkeeper here at IPS, and she shares with us what NAIDOC Week means to her. #NAIDOC2020 #NAIDOC #alwayswasalwayswillbe #NAIDOCWeek2020

06.01.2022 On Thursday night, IPS attended the NAIDOC Week Community Movie Night in Bunbury, hosted by BREC performing arts centre and Yaka Dandjoo. After a community sausage sizzle and catch-up, attendees took their seats with anticipation, ready to watch Ian Darlings' inspiring film The Final Quarter. Watching it with our local community with the significance of NAIDOC Week fresh in our minds was a moving experience, and emotions were high throughout the theatre. Stan Grant's powerful... racism speech provided by The Ethics Centre followed a brief popcorn and tea break, and a yarning circle facilitated by Yaka Dandjoo Karen Jetta and other community leaders saw out the night. Answering questions from the audience, a powerful discussion was had exploring the issues raised by the two screenings, and how we can collectively move forward with positivity and action as a community. The night was a memorable one, and has given us many things to think about and act upon. We thank both Yaka Dandjoo Events and BREC for hosting such an incredible event.
