25.01.2022 We are going into a heated trivia competition this Friday night against the Eastern states. Vote 1 for Iranda’s Udder Destruction name on the ALFA page below. #prideofsouthaustralia #mightysouthaussies #dreamgreenteam

25.01.2022 One week to go until we find out if this superstar is crowned Young Lot Feeder of the Year for 2020. We are extremely proud of Louise and the caliber of graduates we are attracting! #dreamgreenteam

25.01.2022 Boy it is cold at Tintinara this morning! Reports of up to -7 on our crews drive to work. How’s the weather where you are?

25.01.2022 Animal health and welfare is paramount at Iranda which is why the construction of the home pen is extremely important. Home pens are 2000m2 and have a compacted rubble surface to stop contamination of the sub surface soil. The shade covers a quarter of each pen and due to the North/ South orientation, it allows the pen surface to dry out in winter after rain. They intentionally don’t cover the bunk or water trough to eliminate crowding. The feed bunks in each pen are 40m lo...ng which allows for 25cm of feeding space per head. So cattle don’t have to share with other mobs, water troughs are situated in the middle of the pens and are surrounded by a 3m concrete apron to prevent the undermining of the pen surface. #whereis36647 #playinghardtoget #homeiswheretheheartis #australianlotfeedersassociation

25.01.2022 Our team takes great pride in producing a high quality, consistent product and putting food on Australian tables! Clifford must have enjoyed his time at Iranda. His individual stats were pretty impressive with a weight gain of over 2kg per day and a dry matter feed conversion ratio of 5.25kg. With a carcase weight just over 300kg, #36647 has provided approximately 215kg of usable meat! Assuming an average meal size is 250g, that is 860 meals of nutrient dense protein. The Australian production system is very efficient with all facets of the animal used in products such as leather, rubber tyres, fuel, glue, brake fluid, cosmetics, medications and soaps. #wastenotwantnot

24.01.2022 Water is an essential resource of any feedlot. During Summer cattle drink between 60- 80 litres a day. Iranda’s turkey nest holds 7 mega litres of water which is fed by 2 fully automated bores and is enough to last the feedlot for 7 days. The water measures 1100ppm which is acceptable for livestock consumption. Water troughs are cleaned 3 times a week and are finished in two pac paint for easy cleaning and hygiene. Aside from cattle usage, approximately 100,000 litres of water is used to temper grain at the mill every day and to wet roads to prevent dust in summer. #wetwetwet #thirstywork #36647

23.01.2022 Iranda’s livestock team are responsible for the health of #36647 and the entire feedlot. Each day our pen riders check every pen of cattle on horseback for any strays, the hygiene of the water troughs and the general health of each lot. Cattle that have been on feed for 14-28 days are considered to be high risk and are mainly susceptible to Bovine Respiratory Disease (BRD). Our feedlot is proudly HGP free and antibiotics are only used on cattle who are unwell. Lot D181 have ...just entered day 27 on feed with 0 deaths and are on par with expected health statistics for this time of year. The animal health is overseen by our Feedlot Veterinarian who visits every month and checks through the pens and provides valuable training for our livestock team. #apiam #anappleaday #36647 #australianlotfeedersassociation

21.01.2022 The end of the road at Iranda has arrived for #36647. Prior to departure there are a number of factors that makes their journey as stress free as possible. Our state-of-the-art facilities ensure that when the cattle are loaded carcase quality is maintained (no bruising) and employees can work in close proximity to the cattle. Trucks are booked well in advance, so cattle spend as little time as possible in transit. Over-crowding is avoided in the two-hour drive to the abattoir... and are not slaughtered until the following morning. #farewellaufweidersehengoodbye #kenworthaustralia #transaustralia See more

20.01.2022 Iranda supplies cattle for several domestic and export customers, with feeding programs ranging from 70 to 300 days on feed. Our face of Facebook #36647 has been inducted into a domestic supermarket program which are typically an early maturing, British bred animal between 350-430kg at induction, and under 18 months of age. These cattle generally give us a carcase weight around 265kg after 70 days on feed and in turn produce smaller and leaner cuts of meat which Australian c...onsumers demand. #pleasedtomeetyouandmeattopleaseyou

19.01.2022 Trenching is underway for the installation of 3 phase power for our new Daniels MFG hydraulic crush in the induction shed. #crushingonmycrush #danielsmfg

19.01.2022 Advertising for the Iranda Feedlot Graduate will be opening soon. Louise Rush, Feedlot Graduate 2.0, has relished the opportunities that she has experienced on her journey at Iranda. Hailing from the red centre, she has put her station experience to good use and has now landed herself the role as Animal Health Supervisor. The role entails managing the pen riding team on a day to day basis and focusing on the overall health and welfare of the animals. The best part of the g...raduate program for me was the opportunity to be exposed to a stage of the value chain which I previously knew little about. Being able to focus not only on animal health and livestock handling but also learn about milling of grain and feedlot nutrition was a great experience. The knowledge I’ve gained has been greatly beneficial and applicable both within the feedlotting sector and the wider agricultural industry. #DreamGreenTeam #graduate #australianlotfeedersassociation

14.01.2022 As promised last week we are looking at the consumption of Lot D181. This group are currently eating 12.5kg/head a day of Ration 2, which is a combination of barley, fibre (from hay and silage), vegetable protein meal, and a molasses-based supplement containing vitamins and minerals. And how do we know how much to feed them? Well this is the role of the Feedmill Allocator who checks and scores the bunks (feed troughs) daily. Lot D181 are currently receiving a Bunk Score of 2 meaning there is only a small amount of feed left. Due to the cold, wet weather their consumption has increased with the Lot receiving 1.92 tonne of feed today. 13.01.2022 Advertising for the Iranda Feedlot Graduate will begin soon. Urrbrae Agricultural High School and Adelaide University Old Scholar, Harrison Lightbody was our inaugural Feedlot Graduate back in March 2017. Moving from the dairy industry to the feedlot industry opened his eyes to the career opportunities lot feeding had to offer. Harrison, now Iranda’s Livestock Manager, attributes his progression from gaining a solid understanding of all feedlot departments during the 18-mon...th program. I have found there are far more opportunities for advancement working for a large company like Thomas Foods International in comparison to a smaller operation. The extensive external training offered has been a valuable tool and I am looking forward to commencing the Australian rural leadership TRAIL Program soon. #graduate #australianlotfeedersassociation #urrbraehighschool #universityofadelaide

12.01.2022 A big happy birthday to some of Iranda's unsung heroes Allegro, Ivy and Donkey. #therealhorsepower

12.01.2022 50 years ago today the Australian Lot Feeders Association was established to represent, support and unite the feedlot industry. 11.01.2022 And then there were three! We welcome to the team Graduate 3.0, Emily Jones. Hailing from the Hawkesbury in NSW, Emily had little exposure to agriculture until high school when Ag fast became her favourite subject. After graduating with a degree in AgriBusiness from Wagga’s CSU, Emily worked at one of Australia’s largest NT Cattle stations and recently completed harvest at GrainCorp in Naracoorte. Emily said I’m excited to kickstart my career with the Iranda team as they off...er endless opportunities both internally and externally to develop invaluable skillsets and knowledge of progressive Australian beef feedlotting. Fun fact: Emily has travelled Europe representing Australia in Equestrian Vaulting (gymnastics on horses) and she has a fear of bananas. Both points have been great conversation starters in the lunchroom! #bananasarenotapeeling #graduate #australianlotfeedersassociation

11.01.2022 Harvest is off to a blistering start with 3800 tonnes of barley delivered to the Tintinara silos, a record for our first week! It has been in the family for some 60 years with the block cleared back in the roaring 40’s. #viterra #supportlocal #farmermeetandgreet #grainfordays

09.01.2022 Our esteemed leader has had his Nuffield report on Animal Welfare released today, a topic that is very important to all of us here at Iranda Beef. In his report Tom said animal welfare is a highly emotive and subjective topic, with consumers becoming increasingly concerned with how their food is produced. To read the full report, see the link below. #nuffield #animalwelfare #australianlotfeeders

09.01.2022 As part of the International Livestock Production tour, University of Adelaide’s lecturers Wayne Pitchford and Mandi Carr had to resort to a virtual study tour of Indonesia this year due to Covid. Today we had a visit from the Ag and Animal Science students so they could get a feel of what Australian feedlotting is like. Our very own Harrison Lightbody and Kassidy Coulthard both went on this tour when they were studying so proved to be great tour guides today.
