24.01.2022 Five amazing short films were screened in our Shanasheel festival and two talented local filmmakers were awarded for their creative work and contribution to the 2018 Shanasheel Iraqi cultural festival.



19.01.2022 We are honoured and very delighted to confirm that our own Osamah Sami, the multi-award winning Australian stage and screen actor, writer, spoken word artist, and stand-up comedian will be the MC for the Shanasheel Festival this Sunday. This will add great flavour to an already amazing event.

18.01.2022 Our Iraqi Folklorama included amazing performances of the diverse and colourful Iraqi cultures: Kurdish, Syriac, Assyrian, Arab and Gypsy dance.

16.01.2022 Shanasheel Festival guest speaker Dr Munjed Al Muderis charmed the diverse audience who packed the theatre at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre with his talk about his latest visit to Iraq. He talked about how he helped the war victims there restore their dignity by substituting their lost limbs and making them productive again.

13.01.2022 Five O'clock, an award-winning short film by Ayman Al-Shatri. It sheds light into the psychology of a suicide bomber sent to blow himself in the city of Baghdad.Come and watch it on Sunday 18 November, 4 pm at Shanasheel Iraqi Cultural Festival.

09.01.2022 "Illusion" is the first Australian film for filmmaker Ali Al Azeez who started his film-making career in Iraq. It tells his reflection of addiction and homelessness in Sydney. "Illusion" is screened on Sunday 18 November, 4 pm at Shanasheel Iraqi Cultural Festival. http://www.iraqiculturalfestival.com.au/

05.01.2022 Our Shanasheel music concert astounded the theatre-packed audience with an amazing collection of the best of Arab and Iraqi music and songs by the MACAM Music Ensemble & Amasi Singing Group celebrating Iraq’s cultural connection with the Arab World. The jewel on the crown was Al Gharib, a novel piece of local performance, music composed by Mohamad Ameen Nafttachi, lyrics by Mostafa Moheich, and sung by Moni Kahwaji. Al Gharib also included short didgeridoo performance.

04.01.2022 Our Shanasheel's opening session included not only speeches and a talk by our guest speaker but also stand-up comedy by our star Osamah Sami and amazing woodwind performance by Sara Ismail on clarinet and Sandra Ismail on flute

03.01.2022 The amazing mural #we_all_Iraq was exhibited on the Shanasheel festival grounds. The mural is a collective work of visual artists from the diverse Iraqi community embracing their connection to Iraq and their Iraqi culture.
