21.01.2022 Look whos talking! This week at my local BNi we have Jen Trevorrow of Be the Confident You. who will be sharing some fabulous tips for looking great on video. Such vitam information in our heavily connected times for all small business owners. Just check out her great introduction below! 20.01.2022 What an image ha ha But seriously this is "tongue in cheek" (yes its bad pun day) to get attention because today Im really continuing the topic about folks who just "lurk" on a page or group but dont engage. Im actually quite introverted but writing has always been a way initially to find my voice. I have found through personal experience over the years , that engaging more can build your network and your confidence, as well as helping to highlight your skills. Thi...nk of it as part of the process of people getting to "know, like and trust". The more you engage the more those barriers break down. As a business owner you are proud of what you do and how you do it, so step out from behind the curtain and dip your fingers into the keyboard. Start by sharing some love and encouragement - and then when you see a topic you are knowledgeable about or keen to learn more about, join in the discussion. A few tips however to be aware of: I dont recommend starting off with highly topical or political topics - you need to be confident online to go there and resilient as such topics will attract a wide range of view Be careful not to hijack a conversation - add to it but let others have their say too Dont go off topic - if you see a friend or acquaintance in the same thread , dont organise a get together there - message them instead. (Of course saying hi or giving a is fine). Do acknowledge points made by others and use their name (by using @ symbol before typing their name) when responding. This is especially important if there are a lot of comments, that way the person you are offering assistance to or helping to solve a problem will see your reply. Have you been shy to engage? Then i challenge you to use this post to say hello. Do you have a story to tell about engaging in a post that led to a solution, win or other benefit? Share with me below. stay safe and well wherever you are in the world. - Fiona
20.01.2022 What holds you back from posting on your social platforms for business? Share with me below! This was me realising I hadnt been posting to my page much , even though Ive been creating... #thatsinkingfeeling #justlooktheotherway... In all seriousness I honestly know what its like to get sidetracked. its all about priorities. However for me, my clients are the priority so its easy to excuse myself - but i know better! I can see it in the insights when i stay too quiet. Let me know whats happening in your world and business -hoping all are staying well and staying afloat.
20.01.2022 For some reason a post I did about Avatars in 2019 when they launched in Australia and New Zealand popped up and of course it doesnt have the most recent information. So just to update, during April they rolled out across Europe and If you are in the USA they have just rolled out there too. Avatars Im sure are going to be a way to introduce us to further AI adventures down the line. They are a fun way to add images to messages and comments rather than just a standard emoj...i. Now you do need to create the initial Avatar on a mobile device, but once you do, you can access them on your desktop (not on Pages however it would seem). There are a few ways to create your avatar on your mobile device: From someone elses Avatar Post: Below each Avatar post, you should see a Try It button. Avatar Sticker: Tap on an Avatar sticker if you see one shared from a friend on Facebook Bookmark: To create or edit your Avatar, go to your bookmark (hamburger) (the three horizontal lines at the bottom right of your screen in the Facebook app), click See More, and select Avatars From the Comment Composer: To create or edit your Avatar, go to the Facebook or Messenger comment composer (Write a comment), click on the smiley face icon, and click Make Your Avatar to get started. Some iOS devices dont yet have the ability. to create on messenger.
20.01.2022 What a lovely initiative from Airbnb. We can send our favourite hosts a little card to wish them well and check in on them. Its such a difficult time for all, but the tourism industry is one of the hardest hit. Have you tried this feature yet?
20.01.2022 It was lovely to be asked to contribute to this recap of tactics and words of wisdom for business owners from our fathers. Thanks so much to Heidi Cohen for including me. I know it wasnt Fathers Day in Australia, but it was for most of the rest of the world and its a lovely celebration. Enjoy! Did your father impart some words of wisdom that have helped you in your business?

17.01.2022 Facebook T&Cs are changing. You should have received a notification that Facebook is updating the Terms and Conditions for its platforms/programs (Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, the Facebook app etc) effective from 1 October 2020. Its a good time to review the Terms & Conditions so that you make sure you are complying, and to check your privacy settings.... Facebook make a point of mentioning that we use the platform for free, and that revenue to run the platform is through advertising. They have also made it very clear that they have the right to remove content and/or restrict pages/profiles if the content breaches their terms and conditions. It is never 100% what is considered a breach if its not an obvious one. For example pages being restricted for liking /engaging with other pages content , when they may in fact be connected to those other pages quite legitimately. My advice is always not to have all your eggs in one basket. Where possible always own your brand domain and have at least a basic website or landing page. This is certainly recommended to protect your business in the case of a hack which may see you lose access to your social media profiles. Ensure that you only share information/content which you have the right to share. For example publically available content which has no copyright restrictions and your own created content is fine, but sharing images for which you dont have a license may not be. Once you share onto Facebook, you are giving them the right to display such content and allow it to be shared (subject to your privacy settings) until you delete it. It is important that you adhere to the following conditions at the minimum: You must: Use the same name that you use in everyday life. Provide accurate information about yourself. Create only one account (your own*) and use your timeline for personal purposes. ( Business should be conducted on business pages) Further (and this is one for parents to note) you cannot use Facebook if you are under 13 years old (or the minimum legal age in your country to use our Product). This has always been the case but some parents or siblings do create accounts. If you have a profile in a pets name, it should be a page, not a profile. Make sure you understand the types of content you can share (see section 2 of the terms What you Can and Cant do on Facebook in the link below) There are several other conditions for which a Facebook account cannot be created and these are if a person is a convicted sex offender; if Facebook has previously disabled an account for violations of their Terms or Policies and if for any reason a person is prohibited from receiving Facebook products, services, or software under applicable laws. *this relates to the personal profile in your name and not your business pages. Read throw the preview of terms and conditions via the link below https://www.facebook.com/legal/terms/preview
16.01.2022 One of the things we consistently are asked about, or observe online, is the incorrect use of giveaways and promotions on Facebook and Instagram. Ensuring you get it right can protect your page and brand. Our latest blog covers the most important things you need to know. Always check out the relevant laws for the location you are promoting to, and seek advice if not sure.
16.01.2022 My lovely friend and fellow social media specialist has a great post about hackers. Ive had several discussions in the last few days with people who have lost access to their account, but I hadnt seen this Qantas one. Always remember if something seems too good to be true, it probably is. If you are a member of Qantas or Flybys or any of those kinds of things, always go to the website and log in, please dont click on links (or share them). The same goes for posts advertising free trips, free cars or caravans, bitcoin - its a scam. Sometimes its done to get a bunch of likes and then they rename the page later to "look popular" - a very unethical way to go, but if there is a link involved, be very very careful and do not click. If you are not sure, reach out to an expert in the field who can check it out for you.
15.01.2022 This is big news, the Facebook gloves are off when it comes to you tube, with Facebook set to launch a new licensed music video initiative on August 1. According to the report from TechCrunch, artists will need to toggle on a new setting to add their videos to the page, or Facebook will create a new page of videos for them. The new setting will allow Facebook to add to the artists videos without them doing a thing! ... This is a real game changer for music artists. Fiona Lucas

12.01.2022 Time and time again we talk about online security and the iOT and the need to be diligent. Ensuring you use complex passwords and two step authentication on devices is one part of this. The other is making sure you keep all devices updated with security patches and software updates as they become available. Recently the ABC reported on the issue of hackers accessing home security cameras (read the report below). If you use such devices, make sure you regularly update and ...check with the manufacturer what security you can add to help prevent unauthorised access. With the number of cheap devices flooding the market, these incidents are bound to rise. Stay safe.

11.01.2022 DIGITAL WELLBEING & THE ALWAYS ON CULTURE. It can be really hard to disengage from the online world. 05.01.2022 One thing about being restricted in movements due to Covid-19 is discovering local businesses that you didnt know about. Logans Micro-Distilleryy is one of those. 04.01.2022 So worth having your finances reviewed when you look at current interest rates in particular. Fabulous value from Mark Petterwood of Astute Geelong Central today
04.01.2022 Are you in group or many groups? Something i observe in some groups is a reluctance to engage. Sometimes it can feel intimidating to put your thoughts out there, but by engaging we start to open up new channels for connection. ... Even the simple act of a like, heart or hug on a post starts to bring members in a group closer together. As admins, group managers and moderaters can see if a post has been "seen" by a member - but without any engagement or feedback it is harder to ensure that content is relevant. So if you tend to "lurk" in a group - start to engage - you might be surprised how it can bring interest to your own business - just through your engagement and interest. #buildcommunity #connection
