25.01.2022 [Kristian] HOLD THE PHONE. If you know what this is, we can be friends. Work on $40-50K landed. Now eligible under 25 year rule. Be the centre of attention at any JDM car show.
25.01.2022 Went on an adventure. Lil' twuck made some big frens
23.01.2022 Now this... This is unique. Very hard to find a LWB Hiace in manual.
23.01.2022 Australia: I hose it down and scrape the bugs off the front every couple of weeks. Japan:
23.01.2022 I'd share it from the OP, but the group name sets off Zuc's nouveau-puritan naughty word filter and strangles the reach
23.01.2022 Hide yo kids, hide yo wives.
21.01.2022 At first, you're like... GAAAAH THE HELL IS THAT But then you look a bit more. You scroll past and continue with yo' business. ... A bit later, it pops up again. You still don't know what the hell it is, but... Its not as ridiculous as it was the first time. Repeat a few times, and you'll find yourself wanting one. This is how it be, with kei cars.
21.01.2022 I don't know why anyone would do this But someone did this And now we ALL need to confront the existential crisis it imposes upon us.
19.01.2022 This is going to be a very specifically targeted post. I'm talking directly to you. You, who live an hour out of the city but still commute in and out, every day. ... What are you driving now? Statistically, it'll be something like a Corolla, Camry, or ubiquitous Korean snotbox. These are all fine. They do the job, right? Its not like you need something sporty or luxurious to bumble along in peak hour traffic. But why not have a bit of luxury? A smoother engine. Nicer seats. Thicker glass. Better soundproofing. Tint the windows and isolate yourself from the herd. Create your own little bubble. Get a old Crown. These 140 and 150 series are still surprisingly common to see at auction, often in amazingly good condition with less than 100kms. Are they pretty? Shit no, look at them. They've all the style and excitement of a laundromat at 8:30pm on a Tuesday. Are they fast? Nope, but they're smooth. You can find them with a 1JZ, 2JZ, or 1UZ. Well why should I get one then? Because your Corolla sucks. Your Camry sucks. Your Korean snotbox? It also sucks, and you're boring. Get an old Crown, thank me later. These three are going through today, all would be under 10k landed.
19.01.2022 In Thailand, the JDM dream is far from dead. Granted, it's a fever dream and it'll haunt you for weeks, but still less terrifying than the price of a normal S13. Of any sort. You can own this for just 200,000 Baht. ... Guess all the cars that came together like a well synchronised orgy, and I'll include a free bucket of ping pong balls.
19.01.2022 The longer you stare, the prettier she gets. Don't linger on those dreamy eyes too long though, rumour has it she'll consume your soul.
19.01.2022 Behold, the unholy union of Russian styling, British interior treatment, and Japanese reliability. The Nissan Rasheen. 1995, 4WD, auto, 99,000kms.... I was going to post this, but then discovered it was a December build so not quite eligible under the 25+ year rule. So decided not to. Then decided to again, because I'm far too lazy to find something else to post, and maybe you'll ask me to find you one that IS eligible. They start around 8k landed and complied, 10k is better though. A few have been coming in lately, so you'll start seeing them around.
19.01.2022 S U P E R A E R O R O O F [Kristian] You may not like it, but this is what peak 1990s kei van looks like. Dobby reckons it "looks like it needs an epi-pen".
18.01.2022 *Giggles childishly*
18.01.2022 Just a quick one before you head out... In case you were thinking about buying a studio apartment later on (or a walk-in wardrobe in Sydney) could I tempt you into impulse buying a Honda Civic instead? Only a smidge over 200k L&C... ... C'mon, do it. I'll give you a free sticker AND a keyring.
17.01.2022 Yeah look. I love kei trucks as much as the next person. And a little box on the back as a mini-camper is a fantastic idea. ... But at this point you're just taking the piss and should probably upsize.
16.01.2022 L O N G B O I O N G B... O I Seriously I'm just going to phone this one in. You want a Crown wagon? Well shit son, we got one right 'ere. We're rapidly approaching 'end times' for an affordable JZS171W. This is pretty much as cheap as they get now, and long gone are the days when you could sit back and reasonably expect your preferred colour/option/km combo to come though auction eventually. There is no more eventually, we take what we can get. No wait, only buy. UPDATE: Sold
16.01.2022 At the risk of being screeched at for fat shaming... If your hearse requires a lazy axle and GVM upgrade to transport your corpse, I can make some fairly accurate assumptions about the cause of death. Probably wasn't choking on lettuce at a salad festival. ... Fatty.
16.01.2022 Hey, I've had an idea. You know what my adequately powered but certainly not overpowered little dump truck needs? Big f*ckoff airbrake on the front. Like, a HUGE one.... I want absolutely zero air passing over the top of this thing, ya hear me? NONE. Oh yeah and load it up with chrome. Bitches love chrome. - This guy, probably
15.01.2022 As an Equal Opportunity Importer we strive to be inclusive and accommodating of those with disabilities, be they physical or physiological. If you or someone you know considers themselves a car enthusiast, but is (for whatever reason) unable to operate a clutch pedal, you may wish to consider the EVO GT-A. The A is for Automatic. ... Featuring the same 4G63 Turbo engine as a regular able-bodied EVO, you'll finally be able to keep up with your friends instead of being 5 minutes behind in your Hyundai i40. Or maybe you can drive manual just fine, but want a sweet boosty wagon as a daily. That's cool too, I guess. They're also half as much to buy, so there's that. Side note: These have been through testing and are fully approved under the new interim SEVS now, so no wait for compliance. Straight through.
14.01.2022 GOOD MORNING VICTORIA and welcome back. I trust you all used your time in isolation to contemplate some of your poorer life choices, like whatever that mess is you call football, the definition of a potato scallop, and how to spell chicken parmi. On a more serious note, the added complications of covid at both ends of the import logistics chain have been VERY challenging the last few months.... Japan has been in a state of quasi-lockdown since about April, and still is. Dockside export procedures are affected, container shipping isn't a thing right now because they've run out of them, and our ports are full of empties. RoRo schedules are reduced. Everything is awful. And then at the Victorian end, it's just as tricky. Wharfies are operating under lockdown conditions, towies are restricted in their movements, and our RAW workshops are struggling to push a lot of the newly eligible cars out the door, because engineers weren't able to physically attend cars to sign them off. Fun times! If you've been a customer of ours through all this, thank you. Sincerely, thank you. Your patience and understanding means everything. Cheers. Now get back to work.
14.01.2022 Well, it had to happen... Good Altezzas are starting to dry up too. We can probably just straight up blame New Zealand for nicking them all. I'm told young drivers are obligated to purchase one at some point, usually just after crashing their first car, which was a Civic. This one is a bit outside the norm for us.... We found it at auction, graded poorly (3C) but saw potential. Underneath the ratty clearcoat and dirty interior, it was a fundamentally straight, sound car with no mods, evidence of abuse, or mistreatment. Just shitty paint, and an owner with a morbid fear of vacuum cleaners. So we found a good painter (no easy feat in Japan) cleaned it up, and gave it another chance. Now here it is. This aero kit was an option, and the front bar is worth 100,000 alone.
14.01.2022 Been a little while since I've subjected you to some #Crown #Content. This blue looks stunning on anything. But you know what makes it look even better? A vajazzled grille.... Behold, the UZS186 Vajesta. Because nothing compliments a classy vehicle such as this, like thousands of cheap shitty plastic diamonds superglued to fake chrome. Auction sheet reads like it was owned by someone who fell over it in the garage stumbling home drunk every night, but still... Rare colour and 53,000kms. Can get a closer look if you're keen and know a good paintless dent guy. And maybe a paint guy. And a detailer. Really selling it here, aren't I.
14.01.2022 Oooh look, a Piazza! The car so bad not even Holden could sell it to Australians. And when you think about the garbage Holden DID sell to Australians, that's a pretty damning indictment.... This is far from your garden variety engine-donor-for-a-Gemini Piazza though. No sir. This one's a Piazza Nero! Featuring such things as uh... Blackness? A pinstripe? Less efficient air conditioning? Who knows! Someone will. I expect to be reprimanded in the comments. The quad headlights are kinda neat. This one's even auto, so you won't be tempted into any high speed cornering heroics. Which is for the best, really. Anyone who has tried to go fast in a Piazza is dead. Auction on Wednesday if creaky interior plastics are your thang.
14.01.2022 This is actually fantastic
12.01.2022 These CL7 Type R's are gaining popularity. This one's just begging to have the Mugen catalogue thrown at it. Or the sweet release of death.
11.01.2022 Sick of all the kei trucks yet? Tooooo bad. This is happening, its going to keep happening, and you only make it worse when you struggle. ... Got some R34 tail lights laying around? Maybe an eBay BIG WANG you purchased in a moment of weakness? Do you also have several tins of 'whale penis' red plastic paint and off-brand D&G-esque interior fabric? Well then, consider yourself inspired.
11.01.2022 There's no end to the usefulness of kei trucks. You can even find them with a factory-fitted tailgate lift. Perfect for laundry trolleys, bins, food carts, those stupid green waste bags suburbanite types put lawn clippings in, your nan's mobility scooter next time she escapes the home and runs out of battery halfway to a dirty stopout with that sleazy mustachioed Graeme chap she met at bingo... Whatever really. ... Mid teens landed and complied for something like this, with aircon and power steering. This one's 2WD, but 4WD is also a thing.
10.01.2022 [Kristian] Who said they wanted a Japanese taxi? Some people actually bought them for private use. This Nissan Crew has 74,000km, grade 4. Even came with an RB20. There.
10.01.2022 Beep bep Smol banan, coming through Though with 360cc it won't be doing it very quickly, you'll have plenty of time to get out of the way.
10.01.2022 Ahhhh Japanese wiring. How do I love thee, let me count the... Scotch clips
10.01.2022 Weekends are for kei cars. Why? No reason. I just like them and I do what I want.... Now you might think 20k is a lot to pay for a 1991 Mira Walkthrough, and you'd be absolutely right. Its way too much. But would you look at it though? Its all cute and brown and the wood kitchen is all very hipstery and upcycled and there's probably bunch of hashtags I could throw on this post to gain reach with people who have 'concerns' about vaccinating and 5G towers but I'm not prepared to sink that low. So look. You may not see the value in this particular kei car, but it's a good example of what you can do with them. Park this boxxy bby next to a bike path in the mornings and you'll have every 20-something in activewear queuing up to buy your activated free-range kombucha smoothies or whatever pseudo-healthy gloop you're flogging. The twee adorableness of it alone is enough to lure them in. That'll be $12. Tap here please.
08.01.2022 Further adventures in Japanese wiring, for your entertainment and amusement. I kept digging. I should not have kept digging.
08.01.2022 So you've ruined your life. I'm sorry. I really am. Be it hormones, alcohol, latent procreational drive or an awkward sticky combination of all three... You've got kids now. Too many of them.... Most people learn after the second one. When a sedan or even a decent sized hatch is still perfectly suitable to cart your slimy little bonk trophies around. But not you. Nope, you went and had more, didn't you. And now you need that third row. Well guess what, Mr and Mrs Clown Car Uterus... You need a van. Abandon all notions of having something sporty or svelte. You need a van. Here's a van. With THIS van, you can attempt to retain some shred of dignity and coolness. I'ma be real with you. It's this, or something Korean. And you know how I feel about those. http://www.ironchefimports.com/cars-available/2005-elgrand/
06.01.2022 I was going to make the caption: "I wish 10 year old me could see this" But then I remembered... ... Current age me has no kids and three money, and I can probably just make one myself, right now, with the kei truck I have sitting out the front. I think I need to do that. Right after I answer 238 of your emails.
05.01.2022 HURRR TILTY WHEELS GO SKRRRT #ruined
05.01.2022 TILTY WHEEL BIG WANG GANG
05.01.2022 Now when I say "Skyline" and "Paul" in the same sentence, your Pavlovian response will no doubt be "Walker" because you think movies are real and you have a man crush. Its fine, really. So does your girlfriend. I'm here to tell you though, the OG Paul-ine was this one, formally endorsed by salad tossing enthusiast, actor and occasional racecar driver Paul Newman. ... And just what does this very limited edition HR30 have over your more ordinary, un-endorsed Skyline? Absolutely f*ckall as far as I can gather, other than someone having scribbled on the bonnet. But if you don't buy one, he'll have your legs broke. Goes through auction on Wednesday, I have no idea what it'll be worth because shit is bananas right now.
05.01.2022 What's this then Salut? Really just wanted to make that joke. 1995 Nissan Avenir Salut. ... So beyond being automatically cool due to wagon status, it adds a +1 for 4WD, +1 more for SR20, and +1 in addition to that for the DET. Yup, AWD Turbo wagon. Basically a GTiR, except the Americans aren't fighting over it because all their friends haven't told them they should want one. Shame it's rough as guts (its shiny because its wet) because it only has 79,000kms. Auction just after lunch if you're a panelbeater with a penchant for obscure longbois.
05.01.2022 Dumb stuff with kei trucks, Monday night industrial edition
04.01.2022 hELLo cHILDREn GET IN... THE CAT GETINTHECAT INSIDE CAT GET IN YES get in the cat ~ Nyaa ~
04.01.2022 I was hoping to give you some OC #kei #content today, but the weather isn't being nice for photos. Maybe next weekend. So, I'll just try and flog one instead.... Like yesterday's EVO GT-A, this 1992 Carry is also automatic. Which is incredibly hard to find in the older trucks. Also quite rare in 2WD, 80% of kei trucks are 4WD. Being 2WD does make it a bit easier to lower... Maybe throw some big boi 13x8's on there. Just a thought. Added bonus: Aircon! Also not as common on the 90's trucks. 8.5k landed for this lil' nugget.
04.01.2022 I am not familiar with this Beatsonic kit
03.01.2022 If you're ever feeling down, or just regretting your life choices... Take comfort in the fact that in 2003, somebody in Japan actively, willingly and consensually purchased this Fiat Multipla instead of the DOZENS of other vastly superior local offerings. Look at it. I mean REALLY look at it.... Feel better yet? The Fiat doesn't. Every moment the Multipla lives is pain.
03.01.2022 [Kristian] AP2 HONDA S2000 INELIGIBLE FOR SEVS. We have had a number of people ask us recently about eligibility of the AP2 Honda S2000. As was posted up this morning, we had a sneaking suspicion that it was going to be considered ineligible through SEVS. Sorry, Honda lovers. "But the engine is different!" I hear the people cry. During negotiations over the new RVSA, one last change that FCAI managed to sneak into the new regulations was that, in order for a vehicle to be co...nsidered a separate variant on its engine alone, it needed to have a capacity difference of 20%. In the case of the AP2, it's only 10% - 2.0 to 2.2 litre. With the engine difference unable to get the car over the line for eligibility, we would have to then rely on other differences to make the AP2 eligible as a variant, but the late model AP1s were effectively AP2s still running the F20C. In other words, the Japanese spec car isn't considered different enough from the Aussie delivered car of the same era. If it's any consolation, they are stupidly expensive in Japan these days, so they would have been a $50K proposition even if they were eligible.
03.01.2022 SCENE: Tokyo, Japan. 1991. Porsche dealership, interior. ... "Yes hello I would like to purchase one of your finely tuned, iconic driving machines please" Certainly sir, have you considered a 911 Carrera? "Yes I have indeed, its perfect. I'll take it. But could you first absolutely fucking ruin it with an automatic gearbox that would be great thankyou"
03.01.2022 Late night keiposting? Late night keiposting. Drink it up. Every little bit. ... The interior is... Something else. Really going for that steakhouse/brothel aesthetic. Actually when you think about it, that'd be a great idea. You're always hungry after.
02.01.2022 [Kristian] Latest round of new additions to the SEVS list are up. Nissan Leaf e+ (with 60kW/h motor), a whole swag of GC8/GF8 Subarus (think anything Type RA or wagon), the current model Corolla Hybrid wagon, Mitsubishi Evo 9 MR and RS, late model Legacy wagon (with 2.0 litre turbo), the Toyota Vitz GRMN version with 1.5 litre turbo (what we call a Yaris, pretty rare and very expensive) early 2.0 litre turbo Levorgs (before they were released in Oz), and the WRX STi S203, which I think looks pretty decent. Gradually working our way through all the variants that Subaru Oz denied us over the years. If you can think of anything else you'd like to see added, let me know.
02.01.2022 [Kristian] October new car sales in Japan are up a massive 29.2%. Although this is only really returning to pre-COVID levels, this is indeed good news. Why? Well, what do people do when they buy a new car? Trade in their used one. More new cars sales means more used cars, which means stock levels at auction start to improve, and - hopefully - the crazy COVID pricing we've been seeing for the last six months *may* start to settle down a bit.
01.01.2022 We were going to snap this one up today but the client's circumstances changed, so I thought I'd present the opportunity for someone else. These are a pretty spectacular deal, if you've ever priced up a refrigerated box. They are murderously expensive locally. This 2018 Carry though, will be comparatively cheap.... Auto, air, power steer, power windows. All about 25's with this frosty little ice block... 25,000kms -25 freezer 25k max, landed and complied. Probably much cheaper. Goes through auction TODAY just before 1pm so hit us up ASAP if you're keen. The guys have been all over it already, it's basically flawless. Grade 4.5 with just a couple of tiny stone chips on the front.
01.01.2022 Ah yes, the Avalon. One of Australia's finest locally-manufactured American offerings. So good in fact, this chap in the UK saw fit to import one and have it tastefully modified. ... Unfortunately being a 2000 model we're not able to bring it back, but maybe it'll serve as inspiration for your own Avalon hotrod build.
01.01.2022 [SOLD] If I had a dollar for every JZX inquiry we get... That would be a profitable business model in itself and we wouldn't actually need to sell any. Here's the thing though. They're actually quite old now, and there's bugger all left in Japan. Oddly enough, this is about what we were paying for them 15 years ago... Except back then, they had 50-80,000kms. ... It may sound crazy, but generally, most people who own a car don't just leave it in the garage to look at, unless its an R34 GTR... But that's a story for another day. They get driven. Even in Japan. And in 15 years, you can clock up quite a few kms. So this is where we're at. If you want a Chaser for reasonable money, you have the option of either higher mileage, or rough as guts. And seeing as we can't import any with repair history, the former option is your best bet. To preempt the flood of questions: One like this with less kms: 25k One like this with less kms and three pedals: 30k One like this with less kms and three pedals, sunroof and series 2: \_()_/ PS. Next year, the Yanks will be able to import them too. The YouTube bros have already started whipping everyone into an OMGJDM frenzy, so make sure you snap up what's left now.
01.01.2022 [Kristian] Not one, but TWO 20B Cosmos up today. Both will need a bit of love around the paint and interior, but great project cars. (still north of $20K landed though ;) )
