24.01.2022 It's been great to see our heritage project "Gunyah" getting some well earned coverage. Construction starts this month!

24.01.2022 Many thanks to Books over the Sea for the invitation to be involved in their project to build a library for the school kids in Ratu Virani, Kadavu, Fiji.

21.01.2022 After 9 days with no internet, finally able to post some photos. The new library at Ratu Virani Memorial School was started with a ceremonial placing of the first post, ending with lots of kava and dancing 2 days later. Everyone had an amazing time in Kadavu Village. With so many Fijians lending a hand we were really able to enjoy a taste of life in the village, finishing the day with the mandatory game of touch rugby. Many thanks to Books Over The Sea and @couvarasarchitects for the invitation to be involved in such a rewarding project. #ironbarkarchitecture #couvarasarchitects #booksoverthesea #kadavu #fiji #village #school #library #volunteer #project #charity #construction #building #timber #local #materials #architectsonthetools #lifeofanarchitect

20.01.2022 A stunning project recently completed that turns the expectations of a duplex on its head! http://www.ironbarkarchitecture.com.au/one-two-house

16.01.2022 Take a look at this one. We feel very lucky to be gearing up to start on site with the team from Buildup Constructions to help bring this beautiful pool to lif...e. A very clever design by our friends at Ironbark Architecture and one that certainly deserves a bit of love on this Tuesday evening. Because designs like this don’t just happen, they come from careful consideration and an impeccable understanding of what the clients actually want. And for us, that is what it’s all about ! The 20m lap pool sits as close to the house as it possibly can. It features an area for the kids to jump and play and is positioned perfectly to receive hours of sunlight throughout the day. The pool straddles between two alfresco areas outside and can be seen from a low lying (and very fancy) window in the loungeroom. The clients wanted everyone in the family to be encouraged to get outdoors and we reckon Ironbark have nailed it. So if you’re looking to build, you’d be silly not to give these clever architects a call! And hey, once those designs are done. Please send them our way - we would love to build your pool! www.cronullapools.com

16.01.2022 Grab a copy of the Daily Telegraph this Saturday to see our Tiny Haus feature!

16.01.2022 This new house is being brought to life in 2020 with @buildbydesign.bbd The house responds to the site conditions with solar access from the North and views to the South. Living spaces have been located on the top floor to maximize natural light and outlook to views whilst maintaining privacy with deep balconies and landscaping. The house has also been designed to adapt to the families changing needs over time. Oh... and the pool is going to be next level! #ironbarkarchitecture #architect #architecture #archdaily #archilovers #design #detail #house #home #residential #contemporary #planterbox #chimney #passivedesign #sutherlandshire #sydney #australia

12.01.2022 "Judge's House", Cronulla, NSW (c.1930's) is the oldest standing house in the suburb of Cronulla. Next year work will commence on our design to remove an unsympathetic 1950's "tacked on" addition, restore the original house with its early ballroom addition whilst creating a modest contemporary addition to meet the owners spatial needs discretely separated from the original house by a glass link and courtyards. Some of the restoration includes rebuilding the garage in a contemporary style which was a late addition built to 'mimic' the original house, remove a tacky skylight to the original dining room coffered ceiling, restore the original fireplace and endless repairs to timber trims, windows and architraves that are well overdue for some TLC.

11.01.2022 Gunyah approved by council last week. Looking forward to seeing this project come to life and giving a second lease on life to the oldest building in the Sutherland Shire.

08.01.2022 "Ode to a Sydney brick: how the cult of renovation is destroying our past" (Originally published: The Sydney Morning Herald) By Lisa Pryor (10 July 2010) In the quickie renovation, especially one with an eye to the rental market, there is one interior improvement considered so acutely necessary than it comes even before the replacement of brass fittings with stainless steel ones or the stripping of carpets: getting rid of the bricks....Continue reading

05.01.2022 We've been working with Sydney Organic Gardens to prepare a design proposal to revamp the old Como Guide Hall as a community facility. Central to our proposal has been the retention of all the key characteristic traits of the original building with a few contemporary interventions to improve use, comfort and natural light. The new proposal will include a community kitchen, library and outdoor patio to connect the building with the food producing gardens to be developed by the Como West Community Garden.

03.01.2022 Great to see work underway on stage two of the new library at Ratu Virani Memorial School in Kadavu, Fiji. Ironbark Architecture, Couvaras Architects and Shire Building Design were welcomed by Books over the Sea to take part in stage one during May of this year, setting the building out and constructing the foundations and floor framing. Great to see the Aussie and Fijian boys working again side by side. Shout out to Andrew Verus responsible for making this happen!
