11.01.2022 WARM UP PROTOCOL. Get off the treadmill, cross trainer or other cardio equipment when warming up to train. Increasing blood flow and heart rate in the name of a warmup does not prime your body to engage in all out effort in your training. Warmup specificity.... If a squat is your first exercise, use as many sets as needed, performing a squat with sub maximal loads to prime the body in the movement and both neurologically and physically prepare yourself to go all in. Typically we will have clients do anywhere from 3-5 warmup sets with weight starting around 50 percent of their working weight building up each set while reducing reps to prevent fatigue so when they hit their first "working set" it's game time. For example in this picture we have a 120kg working set squat. So the warm up set will look like > 40kg x 10 > 60kg x 6 > 80kg x 4 > 100kg x 2 > 110/115kg x 1 > 120kg working set to failure! Preparation for a working set is the key to success... Practice setup, practice getting tight, practice technique, practice breathing because when you hit that working set the only thing you want to be thinking is I’m going to murder this set to be better than last time
