25.01.2022 What is Depth of Discharge (DOD)? It is used to describe how deep a battery is discharged. If a battery is 100% fully charged, it means the DOD of this battery is 0%. If you use 30% the DOD of this battery is 30% If a battery is empty (zero volts), the DOD of this battery is 100%. ... DOD is how much energy that the battery delivered. I hear statements such as "Our 12v lead acid battery can be discharged 80%". This would mean the battery has been discharged to 2.7volts. REALLY ? I don't think so !! If this was done each time is would last less than a year. Generally a lead acid has a DOD of 11% before you start shortening its life. A Lithium battery DOD is 12% without damage. Nickel Iron batteries can be DOD to 39% (9.5v in a 12v battery) every day without damage to the battery. Soon I will talk about battery voltage and damage to appliances.

21.01.2022 Can you discharge a battery to 100% (to empty)? In most circumstance you cannot 100% discharge a battery. If you are using an inverter, most inverters will turn off way before your battery is 100% discharged. (Remember 100% discharge is zero voltage) In fact most inverters will only let you discharge your battery to around 20% of the battery or to 80%Depth Of Discharge. For a 12v battery that is around 11volts.... This is because most batteries will be severely damaged discharging it to zero voltage. If you are running an appliance that uses a motor such as a fridge the motor needs a certain voltage to operate properly. If it does not get the voltage it needs, it will draw more amps to compensate for the lack of voltage. More amps causes heat and this will eventually burn out the motor. Some inverters are designed to operate at a lower voltage but generally not to full discharge. See more

12.01.2022 There is much fan fare about Lithium Batteries and how you can save money by having one of these. General cost for a 6Kw Lithium Battery is around $10,00.00. For around the same price we sell 12Kw battery and you will never throw it away. I would also believe our battery will provide you with more usable stored energy than a Lithium Battery. Contact us and we will explain....cheers David :)

12.01.2022 I have been asked about what voltage can you charge a nickel iron battery to? The easiest answer is to what ever you want, you wont harm them by overcharging with normal battery charging methods. This does not mean it will hold the charge at that voltage in fact it will quickly drop down to a voltage it can start holding the charge at. This is between 15.5 - 16volts for a 12 volt battery, 31-32 volts in a 24 volt battery and double that for a 48 volt battery.

11.01.2022 Can you really discharge a battery to 100% (zero voltage) without shortening its life? The answer is NO! Not even a nickel iron battery and anyone that tells you, you can is not telling you the truth !! The reason why is once a Nickel Iron battery is discharged below .9 volts per cell (or 9v in a 12v battery) it turns from a secondary (rechargeable) battery to a primary (one off use) battery. A NiFe battery will not be damaged to the point where you will need to throw it awa...y but you will be shortening its life. You maybe able to do this a hundred times before its not usable anymore but this does depend on how well its is built. See more

08.01.2022 So what can you actually get out of a battery? People have a misconception when they hear 50% or 80% depth of discharge they are actually getting 50% or 80% of the entire battery. Hey guess what........nope, not even close! Example: 12volt Lead acid battery has a working range of between 12 - 13.5 volts =11% of the entire battery. DOD = 89% without damage to the battery. Lithium battery has a working range of between 3.6v - 4.1v. = 12% of the entire battery. DOD = 88% without... damage to the battery. A 12 volt Nickel Iron battery has a working range of between 9.5 - 15.5volts = 38.7% of the entire battery. DOD = 61% without damage to the battery. See more

05.01.2022 With summer on us can we rely on the electricity grid? Our customers who have installed our batteries don't need to rely on the grid and now save hundreds of $$ in electricity bills.

05.01.2022 A battery you wont throw away

01.01.2022 I was asked by a customer of ours to respond to the Rainbow Power web site talking about the disadvantages of Nickel Iron Batteries Here is the rainbow power link where they talk about the disadvantages of nickel iron batteries. https://www.rpc.com.au//disadvantages-of-nickel-iron-batte...Continue reading

01.01.2022 10 year warranty on a Tesla Power Wall then you have to buy another one and for how much? In 10 years you may need to replace the electrolyte in our battery and then you get another 10 years. Cost you ask? Less than 7% the price of the battery.
