13.01.2022 WEBINAR WORKING FROM HOME: RISKS & RESPONSIBILITIES Nominal Insurer v Hill Implications Thursday 8 October 2020 | 11am - 12pm... The COVID-19 pandemic has led to an upsurge of people working from home (WFH). Employers and workers were obliged to swiftly adapt to this substantial change in our working habits and patterns. One consequence has been that employers and workers are re-evaluating the work health and safety obligations and responsibilities which arise in the WFH context. The IRS Newcastle Branch is devoting our next webinar to this contemporary subject and has the privilege of bringing together two leaders in their respective fields to share their perspectives. In this webinar series, our keynote speaker Simon Hunt (Barrister, Hunter Street Chambers) shares his intimate knowledge of Nominal Insurer v Hill, where Michel Carroll was killed by Hill, her business partner and de-facto partner, while working from home. Simon will explore the expansion of the workplace and the corresponding obligations and responsibilities of both employers and employees. In part two of our webinar, our second keynote speaker, Natalie Lang (Branch Secretary of the ASU NSW/ACT Branch) brings her extensive knowledge and advocacy in shaping domestic violence policy and her Union membership’s broad exposure to WFH, to share her insights into recommended employer best practice approaches to ensuring a safe work environment, as the home morphs into the workplace.
