When her husband Lawrence, a Korean War vet, died 3 years ago it was Legacy that ensured her husbands Gold Card was transferred into Marees name. The annual Legacy Appeal Week is being done differently this year. 23.01.2022 We are so impressed with this beautiful artwork created by Diane, Yvonne, Ray and Norma at IRT Woonona. They chose to paint their favourite flowers, the rose and tiger lily and worked on it for 6 weeks. Their efforts have certainly paid off!

20.01.2022 Our new smart device app IRT Connect by Checked In Care is a finalist in this year’s innovAGEING awards for enhancing the consumer experience. The pandemic drove us to speed up the development and rollout so that our aged care centre residents could use it for secure telehealth appointments with their doctors. She joined 8 years ago when her husband died and she felt the need for friendship with women who are in a similar situation. 17.01.2022 It was a great day celebrating Fathers Day with all of the gentlemen at IRT William Beach Gardens on Sunday. Support Officer Tegan says that even though this year has been like no other, it was a delight to see so many happy faces while delivering gifts, putting on a concert, happy hour with lunch and facilitating video calls between fathers and their children. Great teamwork from everyone involved!

11.01.2022 Shirley Fish, 94, lives at IRT Woodlands and had a long association with Legacy after her husband Dudley died in 1988. He was in the navy during World War II, Shirley explains. I had many happy years with Legacy, all the ladies there were in the same way [having lost their husbands], she says. We went on bus trips and had lunches. Shirley felt well supported by Legacy. None more so than Betty who is pictured here enjoying a cuddle with her favourite stuffed toy dog. All the staff and customers adore Betty for her gentleness and quick wit.

05.01.2022 IRT Parklands resident Reijo Ray moved to Australia from Finland when he was just 19. Ray is passionate about keeping the history of Finnish immigrants alive. Hes appeared in a Finnish TV program about Finnish expats, helped The Finnish Emigrant Museum source historical artefacts and has even written a book in Finnish called Reissumies Down Under, which translates to Travelling Man Down Under. https://bit.ly/38U8SAa

04.01.2022 Margaret, resident of IRT Parklands, was thrilled to take a sightseeing flight last week with Noel Dennett, 86, Naval Aviator, former Qantas pilot and Guide at Caloundra Air Museum. They met during a presentation he gave to our residents in celebration of Queensland Seniors Week. Noel still flies twice a week and kindly invited Margaret to join him.

03.01.2022 A few months ago an IRT Woonona employee joined The Cares List group on Facebook a community of people in the USA writing letters to aged care residents to let them know they are thinking of them during the pandemic. The residents of IRT Woonona have now received almost 200 letters, cards and emails from this group of caring people!
