25.01.2022 IT'S A DUNNY DEAL... KENILWORTH'S ICONIC 'THRONE' WILL FINALLY GET BUILT. Nearly four years after a plan to build an iconic entrance statement in the form of a ...loo for Kenilworth was first mooted and a date for its completion has finally been set. The Sunshine Coast Council has sent out a media release advising the loo, known as "Canistrum" for the Isaac Moore Park will be completed by late 2019. The project was nearly dumped (pardon the pun) when the cost of the project was leaked and it would come in at $840,000. Many thought that was a wee bit expensive. But thanks to Cr Greg Rogerson, the deal was never flushed away and the council has been able to secure it for $600,000. "Canistrum" will serve two functions... Number 1: It will be a striking architectural feature. Number 2: It will be a public amenities facility. ‘Canistrum’ demonstrates the depth of commitment and passion we all have for this healthy, smart and creative region," Cr Rogerson said. WILL YOU TRAVEL TO KENILWORTH FOR A WEE VISIT?

14.01.2022 The Sunshine Coast Council today opened Kenilworth’s $600,000 designer dunny. The lavish loo took six years to make and is hoped to attract more tourists to the... hinterland town. The cost will be long forgotten as people enjoy the rewards that will be reaped from the tourists that it will attract - Mayor, Mark Jamieson. 08.01.2022 We’ve seen street art, ‘big’ things, silos, art trails and more created to attract visitors to towns in Australia. Is this the next thing ... designer dunnies? ...In 2014, the Kenilworth community, in partnership with Sunshine Coast Council, proposed to build a public toilet facility and integral public art component, for Isaac Moore Park. In 2015 the project was initiated through an idea’s competition for the ‘Kenilworth Designer Dunny’. The winning design was chosen from almost 200 entries received from around Australia and the world. The concept, entitled ‘Canistrum’ was designed by Maleny architectural illustrator and animator, Michael Lennie. The word ‘canistrum’ is Latin for wicker basket. The functional spaces form a pod that floats within an inverted translucent cone like structure. Access is via a ramp that also serves as a viewing platform to surrounding landscape and vistas. Michael’s design statement further describes the piece: ‘Bringing ancient craft into the future public domain, Canistrum is an unfinished basket reflecting an unfinished history’. Love it or hate it? Either way we think it’s time to check it out. Don’t worry it has toilet paper Great photo via Instagram.com/chippieb #sunshinecoasthinterland #kenilworth
