25.01.2022 BTS WEDNESDAY - lurking in the shadows...printing BIG today at @arten_framing for an exciting project later this week...

25.01.2022 RETROMOTIVE VOLUME 9 - my latest column "The Analogue Wrist" for @retromotive_magazine. For this issue, I talk about one watch I (secretly) wish I own. But it belongs to someone else far more deserving. My brother Noz & his Hamilton Khaki Field Auto has travelled all the way to Nepal/Everest Basecamp (5,364m) & back... Excerpt... "I remember 'acquiring' the watch in October 2017 during a family get together for my big send-off for my trip. I asked myself while doing a gear ch...eck, whether my Casio G-Shock would 'make it' on my trek. My brother Issey told me that I needed a mechanical watch. That's when he suggested that I should take dad's Hamilton (with mum's blessing)". "During the trek, I guess I didn't know what the watch meant to me as it was only given to me a week before my departure for Nepal, but I felt that dad was always there with me. I also wore a beanie hand-knitted by my sister-in-law and dad's handkerchief on my wrist with everyone's handwritten messages. I also carried with me a 35mm film canister with dad's ashes". "This watch means everything to me. It's my connection to dad. It's my connection to Issey. I have never been a watch guy, even though I've owned various watches throughout my life. What this watch has done is to highlight (to me) that the story behind the object means everything. I work for a company that sells high-end finishes with high profile clients. They arrive in their expensive cars, dressed immaculately, some of them with expensive watches on their wrists. When I tell them that the watch belonged to my dad and the journey it has gone through, they are stunned". "I have worn this watch every single day since I acquired it. My morning routine is to check that I have my phone, my keys, my wallet and that the watch is on my wrist. Without it, I don't feel like I'm 'protected'. When I have the watch on, I genuinely feel that (dad) is guiding me through life and looking out for me. I don't feel complete without it..." 21.01.2022 PRINT GIVEAWAY (FOR SOMEONE YOU CARE ABOUT) - I am sure we all know somebody - a friend; a relative; a partner that is finding life (as we know it) a little hard right now... I am giving away 8 of these prints (pictured) to those that could do with a little 'love' at this time. While going through old boxes of photographs recently, I came across these 'spares' from a Christmas gift send out I did many years ago. They are Digital C-type prints of a landscape I shot in Tasmania.... Rather than let them 'gather dust', I thought I'd give them away to do my bit to put a smile on the face of those who really need it right now. Terms & conditions: - the giveaway is ENTIRELY FREE; including the print; postage & packaging (tube); - you must 'nominate' someone you would like to gift this to (and NOT yourself); - to do so, please email me briefly describing why you would like to nominate your particular loved one (you DO NOT need to include the recipients' name for the submission); send email to [email protected] with the subject line 'Print Giveaway Submission'; - the recipient must reside in the state of Victoria; - up to 8 submissions in total will be selected & will be contacted by reply email to provide postal addresses for their nominees; - submissions close 7pm Wednesday 16th September 2020 (48 hours from the time of this post).

21.01.2022 ARTWORK IN-SITU - 'Daisy' from our recent Mothers Day family project: 'Mother's Day Floral & Art'; gracing the walls of its new owner's home in Sydney. 21.01.2022 My dad was a photographer and he gave me my first camera when I was nine years old, just after we moved to Australia from Japan. I spent a lot of time with hi...m, just watching. It was fascinating for a young boy watching this magic happen of throwing this white piece of paper under a light and then putting in a special chemical and seeing the image emerge. When my five-year-old daughter Hannah asked me recently what my favourite colour was, I had to think about it, and I realised Ive got accents of red everywhere. Whether it be a red stripe on a sports shoe, the red stitching on my leather jacket, the red second hand on my vintage watch, red in small doses seems to work with anything. At primary school in Japan, you're given a hanko with your name on it. My mum gave me my stamp back when I turned 30 and I started using it to sign all my fine art prints, initially because I thought it looked cool, but now I think its my connection back to Japan and my culture. And as I get older, I think I'm starting to appreciate that subconscious connection. There's always that little red accent, a nod back to my heritage. Thats how I make my mark. And now its the inspiration behind my most recent personal work. Isamu created his personal paint colour Heritage Red with Coloursmith.

19.01.2022 OPEN FOR BUSINESS AGAIN - well done, Victoria - we got there (eventually)! The time has come to reside back into my 'lofty and spacious' studio. Whilst it's been somewhat of a novelty shooting jobs all around our humble abode (home) during 'stage 4' lockdown; I am grateful that I can 'now' continue working in a much more comforting surrounding again - albeit with a strict Covidsafe plan. Thank you to all my loyal clients who entrusted me with my ability to service them from my 'home studio' during the last few months... During the downtime, I've been obsessively pursuing my 'other' passion - collecting vinyl, and my collection has grown extensively during 'lockdown' - so there will be some great new classic tunes to share with you all at the studio. I look forward to welcoming you all back very soon with a big smile (behind my mask)...

17.01.2022 PRECIOUS MEMORIES / 1995 - going through my archives as I prepare for my @phaseonephoto webinar (next week) to discuss my 25-year journey (so far) as a photographer. Pictured here with my mentor & boss @johngollings (centre) in Siem Riep (Angkor Wat), Cambodia in 1995 who took me under his wing in 1994/95 as his fulltime assistant. Taking' selfies' weren't a thing back then, so it was quite hard to find any shots of us together - we often had to 'preserve' any limited film st...ock we'd carry for each trip. Luckily, John found this polaroid of us - a precious memory from that time... 13.01.2022 FEATURED - kind words (about me) by my valued client @morrismotley ------------------------ #Repost @morrismotley... Shooting with@isamu_sawa_photography - Head down a small laneway in the inner suburb of Collingwood, Melbourne. Amongst the old factories and warehouses built between 1890-1960 you'll find @isamu_sawa_photography. His studio is a light filled warehouse turned occasional gallery. 3 meter white walls house his latest collection of works. Look to the right and we have a vintage 1970's record player (blasting out Madonna but we'll let that slide). Isseys ability to capture the near end result in the camera is one of his many skills. Little post production goes into these images. It's what happens when you have a true master of his craft. - Swipe left to see some of our past works with @isamu_sawa_photography

05.01.2022 As a photographer, colour influences my artistic direction & is very important in my line of work.
