In a very exciting and close bull ride contest it was the Upper Horton Cowboy and Professional Bull Rider Troy Wilkinson who claimed his first Mount Isa Mines Open Bull Ride title and Ridetuff Buckles & Jewellery Trophy Buckle with a fabulous 88 point ride onboard 'Hillbilly Deluxe' just edging out Yeppoon Cowboy Aaron Kleier with his 87pt ride onboard Brandenburg Bucking Bulls 'Slam 'n' Jam' with Gresford Cowboy Lacha...n Richardson taking third place marking 85.50pts onboard 'The D.O.C.' Merrijig Cowboy Will Purcell made his way to the pay window with his 84pt ride on 'Hillbilly Deluxe' and the last Cowboy to pick up a cheque was Gresford Cowboy Kurt Shephard after marking 82.50pts on 'Lock 'n' Load' A big thank you to all the Cowboys who embraced the virtual concept and entered the Rodeo and a big thanks too to our Judges for their time and effort. 23.01.2022 Dave Worsfold won his first Mount Isa Mines Rodeo Bareback title in 2012 highlighted by an 84pt ride on board 'Bucaneer' in the first round. Since then, he's won three Isa titles as well as four Australian Bareback titles and a gazillion titles in between. The Wandoan Cowboy is, all all senses of the word, a Champion. Each title he's won, he's been up against some of the best in the business. In 2013 he marked his highest ever score at Mount Isa with an 86pt ride on 'Cheyen...ne Brave' in the second round only to finish third that year behind Fred Osman and second placed Matthew R Makinson But this year, in the Bell & Moir Toyota Open Bareback he's up against World #3 Bareback rider Jamie Howlett who last competed in Mount Isa in 2014 before moving to the USA where he has has enormous success, flying the Aussie flag high and still from there, he's keen to win his first Mount Isa title. But don't for a minute think these two have it on their own. There's two other great Cowboys with the will and the skill to go round them in Deon Lane and Brendan Crawley. 20.01.2022 Randall Spann (right) started announcing at the Mount Isa Rodeo in 2001 at Kalkadoon Park and this year is his 20th year as the voice of the Rough Stock announcing at the Mount Isa Mines Rodeo. The Rodeo just wouldn't sound the same without this Cowboy sharing his knowledge of our sport and his knowledge about the Cowboys who nod for the gate each year. Congratulations Randall. Over the years he has informed, entertained and seen the finest Cowboys in the country come out of ...the chutes at Mount Isa and although this year is obviously a little different, he'll be bringing us all the action, without getting his boots dirty or his throat dusty and there's no chance of being knock down by a stray bull!! Joining him, to bring us the Timed Event commentary is the Cowboy from Brigalow in Queensand, Aaron Ryan who won his first ever buckle at the Wilmington Rodeo in 2004, the All Round 2nd division Champion after winning the 2nd Divi Bullride and placing in both the 2nd Divi Saddle Bronc and Bareback. He told us "I was never much of a Cowboy so I took up announcing and left the Cowboying up to the professionals." He joined our Team in 2016 as our 'Social Cowboy' and the following year and up to now has joined Randall in bringing us all the action from the Timed Event end of the arena. 11.01.2022 Cade Ferguson was our only three event Cowboy but it sure paid dividends for the young Cloncurry Cowboy who picked up three titles with some outstanding performances at last night’s 2020 Mount Isa Mines Virtual Rodeo. He collected his first title with a very quick 15.44 sec run onboard 'Oakley' in the Aggreko Junior Barrel Race then climbed onboard his rope horse 'Ace' to put down a 3.45 sec run in the HV Power Junior Breakaway then headed over to the bucking chutes for the Helloworld Travel Mount Isa Poddy Calf Ride where he earned 64 points from our Judges for his ride onboard a Poddy named 'Whitey'. 01.01.2022 He's the two time back to back All Round Champion at Mount Isa in 2012/13 and he aslo has the 2012 Mount Isa Steer Wrestling Champion Trophy Buckle and the 2011 Rope and Tie Trophy Buckle in his impressive trophy cabinet. But he's only secured a second place in the Team Roping with Liam Davison in 2013. So this year, in The North West Star Team Roping event Shane Iker is hoping to add the Champion Header Team Roping buckle to his resume with his heeling partner Maddix Lovett.... Maddix is our defending 2019 Junior Breakaway Champion after running a 3 sec flat time last year. They recorded their run at the Iker's indoor Arena and we're betting it'll be a quick time. Maddix has been mounted on Shane and Jorja's horse over the last couple of years and won the Breakaway title on board the Iker's horse 'Jackson' last year . As a Team, they've been able to practise regularly with Maddix at boarding school in Rockhampton just 20km down the road (as opposed to Maddix living at home in Taroom, some 315km away!!)
