25.01.2022 Do you use Grammarly to proof read your CONFIDENTIAL documents? You may want to check out someone’s comment on their privacy policy at: https://www.reddit.com//why_i_removed_grammarly_chrome_ex/ ... Basically, #Grammarly does not check your grammar inside your computer/device. Instead, it uploads your text to a server where the grammar-checking is done over there. Then it sends you back the proof-reading results from the server. Worse still, if Grammarly is running as a web browser extension, EVERYTHING you type in the web browser will be checked. That means EVERYTHING you typed will be sent to Grammarly’s server. This has #privacy and confidentiality implications. What if the text that you want to check is confidential? Do you feel comfortable for it to leave your computer, sent to a server to be scanned? What if Grammarly’s server is hacked? Will your confidential text still be safe? Think about it. This is a potential source of #databreach.

24.01.2022 Do you know your USB sticks can be a source of #cybersecurity breaches? Most people think that ‘delete’ or ‘format’ will erase the data inside their USB sticks. Unfortunately, that is NOT true. That’s why when researchers purchased 200 second-hand memory sticks, they found that MOST contain leftover data from previous owners.... So, if a casual hacker gets hold of your USB sticks that contain supposedly ‘deleted’ or ‘formatted’ private data, you will STILL be responsible for any #databreach. What can you do? My book has the details on how to protect yourself from USB sticks data breach. Get it here at: iSecurityGuru.com/getbook
23.01.2022 Some hackers discovered security holes in the Windows and Mac versions of the Zoom Video Communications app. They are offering to sell information about the security holes for $500,000! Currently, information about these security holes are in private hands. The moment this information becomes publicly known, its market value collapses from $500k to ZERO. So, you can be sure there is every incentive to ensure that this information remains in private hands. So, the only inf...ormation we know are based on rumours and is incomplete. The rumour is that for the Windows version of #Zoom, hackers who pose as conference attendees can inject malicious code into other attendee’s computer. That can mean that hackers can access any files in the victim’s computer. The Mac version of the Zoom is harder to exploit. What can you do to protect yourself? Well, subscribe to my blog at: https://iSecurityGuru.com/subscribe to find out! Subscribers will soon receive my latest updates about this issue. https://www.vice.com//hackers-selling-critical-zoom-zero-d #cybersecurity #informationsecurity #privacy #hacking #infosec

20.01.2022 GoDaddy had confessed to being hacked! If your account is one of those hacked, your website will be at risk. Nowadays, it is common for websites to get hacked. I have 2 clients whose websites got hacked. One of them had NO BACKUPS! His web-hosting provider did not provide any backup functionality! His website was completely trashed by the hackers. He had no recourse except to rebuild his website from scratch! That cost big money, especially in this pandemic!... I know that GoDaddy’s default web-hosting option does NOT include backups. You have to pay extra to get that option. If you own a website, what can you do? First, you need to reconsider moving away from big popular web-hosting brands like GoDaddy. They literally have tens of millions of customers. One hack and millions of websites will be at risk in one swoop, including yours. Second, you have to make sure your web-hosting provider backup your website. I know of a boutique web-hosting provider that provides HOURLY BACKUPS of your website. You can easily roll back your website to anytime in the past (by the hour) like a time-machine. So, if you need help with this, please feel free to contact us. https://threatpost.com/godaddy-hack-breaches-hosting-acc//
19.01.2022 Are you one of 500 million people still using #WinRAR? There is an ACTIVELY EXPLOITED #vulnerability that allows hackers to plant malware into your computer. You need to ensure that you update to at least version 5.70 of that software.

17.01.2022 Apple has just released #iOS/#iPadOS 13.5 update. The update contains security patches, which include the notorious security hole in the Mail app (see https://isecurityguru.com/how-to-protect-yourself-from-ios/). Also included in this update is the Exposure Notification feature (aka Contact Tracing) that third-party Contact Tracing apps can use. The #covidsafe does NOT work on the #iPhone due to technical reasons. This feature will allow apps to utilise the built-in Exposure Notification API to do a proper job of #contacttracing.
16.01.2022 Carnival Corporation is a victim of #ransomware attack. In their statement, they said, ... we expect that the security event included unauthorized access to personal data of guests and employees, which may result in potential claims from guests, employees, shareholders, or regulatory agencies. Although we believe that no other information technology systems of the other Company’s brands have been impacted by this incident based upon our investigation to date, there can be no... assurance that other information technology systems of the other Company’s brands will not be adversely affected. If you’ve been a customer of Carnival, be alert to any attempt at stealing your identity. https://www.carnivalcorp.com//carnival-corporation-plc-id/ #databreach #cybersecurity
15.01.2022 I just caught an app trying to steal my clipboard data!! In iOS/iPadOS 14, whenever an app access your clipboard data, a banner will appear at the top to notify you of it. That banner will inform you where that app got your clipboard data from. In my case, upon launching that app, I immediately saw this banner:... XYZ has pasted from Firefox BUSTED!!! I’m going to delete that app!! Imagine if you happen to have any confidential data in your clipboard (eg password, social security numbers, Bitcoin private key), it will be stolen by such dodgy apps. #cybersecurity #privacy
14.01.2022 This morning, my friend sent me this suspicious LinkedIn InMaill message. And she lost $5k in one morning! https://isecurityguru.com/friend-sent-me-a-suspicious-link/
13.01.2022 Is your #website about to be hacked? I have clients whose websites got hacked. Both lost HEAPS OF time and money to deal with it. How can you protect your website from hackers? One of them lost his entire website and had to rebuild from scratch. His website was offline for a couple of months as he had to go through the entire web design process again. It goes without say, it cost him BIG money and he had to divert LOTS OF time to deal with it.... The other client was hacked by someone from Russia. Fortunately, he had backups. But unfortunately, his backups were not up to date. He was able to get back most of his website. But the hacker left behind a trail of destruction which he had to spend money to pay someone to clean up. So, the question is, have you taken any preventative measures to protect your website from being hacked? #hosting #webhosting https://isecurityguru.com/are-you-waiting-for-your-website/
12.01.2022 Do you have a sneaking suspicion that Facebook is spying on you? Well, iOS/iPadOS 14 has caught the Instagram app secretly using the camera. Users are reporting that the green dot (camera usage indicator) in iOS/iPadOS 14 turned on while they were scrolling their Instagram feeds. So, as reported by Bloomberg, there’s in impending lawsuit in the US against Facebook for allegedly spying on their users: https://www.bloomberg.com//facebook-accused-of-watching-in... Facebook blamed a bug in their app for this rogue behaviour. Do you believe Facebook? #cybersecurity #privacy
11.01.2022 Attention Ring video doorbell users! #Hackers can spy on your video feed and insert their own video feed into the app. Ensure that you’ve updated to version 3.4.7 of the app! They can only do that if they are in the same Wifi network as your Ring video doorbell. But since Wifi password cracking software is already publicly available (at https://github.com/kimocoder/gerix-wifi-cracker), hackers can hack into your Wifi network before hacking your Ring video doorbell.... https://dojo.bullguard.com/dojo-by-bullguard/blog/ring/

07.01.2022 A few moments ago, my phone rang. Hello, my name is a Jack. I’m calling with regards to your NBN. I’m receiving a lot of warning messages... I cut him off and said, What Internet? There’s no Internet here. I don’t know why you’re calling me...... Immediately, he hung up. What a waste of my time to even receive this scam call.
