23.01.2022 Ok. My writing head is on. Life has got to me in unusual ways. Move aside toilet paper - I have a soul that is stockpiling memories. As someone not shy from stating the obscure - I am not so secretly wondering if we look like the aliens that watched earth's alien movies. Is fear the first step to our dignity becoming extinct and is it ok if I relax a little and eat popcorn during the news? Which makes me think - what planet are we going to LOOK like we are from when this is k...ind of not over? All that time spent washing hands - surely that's a lifespan of diligence going down the drain. That oh-familiar pat-pat of gel every time we walk through doorways - how dull it will be to just walk on in, sticky as heck. Will we smile or grimace without our masks suffering and hear me: are masks the new botox? Will oxygen always be free? Will family be favoured above work and children above the work they create? Is anyone else disturbed by the fact that bacteria is being wiped out and that common germs are being discriminated against? My life skills have sky rocketed without leaving home. I reckon I could live on a deserted island now that I can braid the days and weeks into a month. I have learnt to cook without hands, sign language hugs and make sure the neighbours do not see me pick the kids up in my dressing gown. My fastidious attempts at making certain I don't cough in public has produced life-size core control and sneezing from the sheer stress is not easy people! If we think we are mere rubber bands, we may snap - but if we are true connectors and humans who look out at each other from those plastic visors, we will spread our germ-free colour and let people see our true selves: poor, decontaminated sillies without umbrellas in the rain, all wanting to go home for dinner! So who is it that said that time heals everything? Gangrene clearly disagrees. No. Time will plod on like a soldier and we will master the art of feeling significant amidst a day when few are dressed for success. Masked and muffled we may speak now - but soon we will be free again, flying solo in circles designated for survivors of prolonged tension. I must stress right here, that whilst I long for the end of life as we don't know it - I DO have a few more things to clean up in the house and so, before the ban on sheer joy comes near us, let's zoom just ONCE more.
