The judge’s comment gives us hope: "I will also have to consider, frankly, the harm that... is done to a tolerant and multicultural country like ours if this type of conduct goes unpunished or inadequately punished," he said. But any failure to issue punishment based on the fear of the other will be a total failure in this case. Of course, the mental illness clearly evident in the aggressor will influence the charges. That is standard. But there must be no acceptance or justification for even the perception of Islamophobia.

Position Description Community Development/Advocacy Worker Islamophobia Register Australia Part time 1 year term contract Working from Home Annual salary $87,500 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Planning, developing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating a range of community/social initiatives as determined by the IRA Project Subcommittee 2. Assist in developing of strategies to enhance the current services of IRA 3. Research and identify appropriate partnerships that lead to long term sustainable partnerships for IRA 4. To create and maintain local networks within the community, relevant agencies, community organisations and law enforcement sectors ensuring effective and efficient delivery of IRA community services 5. Develop efficient pathways for clients of IRA to link with relevant services such as Police and Anti-Discrimination 6. Engage the community in meaningful dialogue, including through social media, to achieve optimal community outcomes for IRA clients 7. Responsible for program and project grants and budgets within specified limits 8. Prepare relevant monthly reports for and meet with IRA Project Subcommittee SELECTION CRITERIA 1. Relevant tertiary qualifications (preferably in Social Work) or extensive community development experience 2. Ability to effectively engage with relevant stakeholders for IRA clients and IRA network 3. Sound understanding of the role of local community links in community development 4. Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills including the ability to produce quality written reports 5. Effective organisational skills including time management, prioritising and ability to effectively complete allocated tasks 6. Ability to effectively manage program budget 7. Ability to use computer-based software programs, including data collection 8. Current NSW Driver’s License required 9. Relevant Working with Children clearance 10.
