16.01.2022 For a Healthy Mouth and Body: Clean Well Tips for Maintaining your Toothbrush: Never share a toothbrush with anybody, even if you are related to them, or how ...close you are to the people you live with. This is one way that viruses and blood-borne diseases can potentially be caught from other people. Make sure that you and your household members store your toothbrush heads apart from each other. Change your toothbrush regularly (especially if you have been ill). Close the toilet lid before you flush the toilet. If you store your toothbrush anywhere near your toilet, every time someone flushes, some of the spray may fly out of the toilet and land on your toothbrush. 10.01.2022 chewing sugarless gum for 20 minutes after a meal can help prevent tooth decay. Chewing sugar-free gum helps protect your teeth and gums in between meals when it may not be possible to brush with a toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Your teeth are more at risk of acid attack after you have eaten. The acid is produced by plaque bacteria, and the sugars in our food and drink, and it slowly dissolves away the enamel and dentine of the tooth, to produce a hole or ‘cavity'. You... can reduce this acid attack by chewing sugar-free gum, as it helps the mouth to produce more saliva - the mouth's natural defence against acid. Also, the increased saliva provides more calcium and phosphate to help strengthen the enamel. Chewing sugar-free gum makes more saliva and the symptoms of dry mouth and bad breath may also be reduced. You will still need to brush twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste, and clean in between your teeth with interdental brushes or floss at least once a day to keep your teeth and gums healthy. 05.01.2022 Cancer is a long & hard journey, but you do not need to walk the road alone. You will meet many good people who are there to help and guide you on the road. They will find you when you are least expecting it. Chris Curtis World Cancer Patient Ambassador Every day, 13 people in Australia are diagnosed with a type of head and neck cancer. Dentists can change the trajectory of oral cancer development by screening for and detecting it in its early stages. Smoking and alcohol consumption are the biggest risk factors for oral cancer and unfortunately it is reported that there is an increased consumption of this during the current pandemic period. Maybe this is the time for a healthy lifestyle self-check.

02.01.2022 "Be Sugar-wise" Tooth decay is a diet-related disease that commonly develops in response to our consumption of sugar. Sugar from the foods and drinks we consume is taken up by decay-causing bacteria that live on the surfaces of our teeth. These bacteria process the sugar, turning it into acid which is then excreted on the surface of our teeth where it draws out minerals from the tooth. If this process happens over and over, without any effort to prevent or stop the disease process, it can eventually result in the formation of tooth decay. #dentalhealthweek #AustralianDentalAssociation
