25.01.2022 Today marks 12 months since the fires which started on 30 December became the first of 2 fire waves to transform our Island & community. The second fire wave 6 days later would change our business in ways we could not imagine. If you haven't seen the Humans of Kangaroo Island series, it captures the personal stories of our community including many impacted by the fires. 24.01.2022 New wine release #3. We’re calling this one our against all odds wine. Our Cabernet Sauvignon vines were grafted in 2016 & after some setbacks we had this, our first vintage, in 2019 before we lost the vines to last year’s fires. But what a wine! It’s rich & plush but still elegant & delicate. The fruit fills the mouth early, then soft tannins draw the finish out smooth & long. We’re firmly in Summer BBQ season & this is the ideal match. With high acidity & firm tannins, Cab Sauv is a great match for dishes with savoury flavours & a component of fat - think KI lamb chops. One to enjoy now or cellar to savour in a few years.

21.01.2022 La Dolce Vita! It really is the sweet life here on Authentic Kangaroo Island in Spring. Neighbourhoods alive with the smell of wild Spring flowers, days stretching out & warm enough to bring you outdoors for a sunset picnic. With it's Italian origins, Sangiovese is our go-to variety for antipasto platters & pizza nights. Not too heavy, just enough savouriness & tannins to pair with those Italian flavours & it even lends itself to some light chilling as the evenings heat up. Bellissimo!

20.01.2022 Is your palate starting to crave white wine as the weather warms up? The White Chardonnay is one of our favourites as we move into Spring. Fresh, fruit driven (think peach & nectarine), crisp acidity paired with just a hint of nutty creaminess to help it cross the seasons. Pack a bottle with a ripe brie, a poached chicken salad or some seafood & head off on a picnic with someone you'd like to roll around in the clover with.

15.01.2022 As we approach the 1st anniversary of 9th January firestorm, we are taking a few moments to reflect on our journey. The past, the events of a year ago & to share our future vision with our customers. Today we look back we reflect on our 20-year journey & share images of the culmination of the passion & effort poured into our Bark Hut Road estate during that time our vineyard as it was before the fires. Jacques' love of making wine in Australia started in mid-80's & he has c...ompleted a vintage here almost every year since. A trip to explore Kangaroo Island in 1997 ignited a new flame. The history of winemaking in Jacques' native Bordeaux dates to 60BC. He grew up as a member of the region's oldest winemaking family, a 5th generation winemaker. With a career established as a flying winemaker & experience gained all over the world, his trip to Kangaroo Island sparked a passion to be a part of establishing an as-yet unrecognised wine region & showcase its potential to the world. A three-year search led to the purchase of Jumbuck, a productive 280-hectare farm in the Kohinoor Hills, with abundant remnant native bushland, ideal elevation to capture the cooling maritime breezes, abundant water catchment & one tiny north-facing parcel with ideal soil for a vineyard. His vision was to hand-craft small amounts of wine employing techniques only possible on a small scale. With a view to making wines that bought the history of French winemaking to together with the freedom & wildness of Kangaroo Island. A European-style vineyard was planted, unlike anything else on Kangaroo Island. High-density plantings with closely spaced vines & rows designed for hand-picking, established around the cool-climate varietals Jacques loved most. An estate style winery built onsite next to the vineyard. In 2011 an American with a kindred spirit of adventure named Yale met Jacques on Kangaroo Island & a partnership was born. Joining as General Manager and Managing Director together they blended their winemaking expertise & business acumen to take The Islander Estate to the next level.
