25.01.2022 Sarah Cutts loves yoga! Many of us at Balance Health love yoga! I love yoga. I believe when taught correctly it builds resilience in the body. It enables you to trust in yourself. It helps you to heal. I'm writing this post to reach out to those that may look at this pose and think "I wish I could do that" or those that are having trouble with their practice in their existing classes or home exercise due to pain or injury. 21.01.2022 Breastfeeding mummas please take note! Kara Cassells and Kristine Miles will be taking some leave over the next two weeks so we want to give you some info on the best acute management for mastitis symptoms which will hopefully minimise the need to progress to antibiotics. In summary; avoid tight clothing or bras that create pressure areas on the breast prioritise feeding from the affected breast first... ensure a deep latch with the baby's lips wide on the areola use over the counter anti-inflammatory medications and cool compress VERY gently massage the breast stroking TOWARDS the sternum and arm pit. His past experience...s in sport lead Kevin to be one of the first Osteopaths in Australia to achieve the Advanced Sports Osteopath title, awarded by Osteopathy Australia’s multidisciplinary review panel of health practitioners in early 2020. Kevin demonstrates an advanced scope of practice, completion of extensive further education in sport medicine and sport science, and clinical competency in movement, performance, physical function, and musculoskeletal health. Kevin believes everyone deserves high-quality care and appreciates the importance of building a strong and healthy therapeutic relationship with his patients. He enjoys treating a wide range of acute and persistent conditions and believes in the holistic management of pain through graded exposure, symptom management, and stress and psychological strategies, alongside home-based self-care. In addition to practicing osteopathy, Kevin enjoys giving back to the community. He is an Industry Practitioner/Clinical educator at RMIT University teaching undergraduate students and is involved in gymnastics as a High-Performance coach and accreditor for Gymnastics Australia, Gymnastic Victoria, International Gymnastics Federation and the Oceania Gymnastics Union. 15.01.2022 There is mounting evidence that exercise has a role in falls prevention in people with dementia and Parkinson's disease. A recent review of randomised controlle...d trials confirmed that well-designed exercise programs that safely challenge balance and involve three hours of exercise per week, are most effective for older people living in the general community. Remember to see your physiotherapist if you are not sure about the best approach for you. If you or someone you know is living with dementia or Parkinson's disease, find a physio near you specialising in treatment of older patients or those with neurological conditions. 10.01.2022 ********* SEEKING VOLUNTEERS ********** Men pre or post prostate surgery for FREE assessment and advice re pelvic floor training and pelvic health. The volunteers will be part of our educational program for our therapists to help reach more men and provide optimum care following prostate surgery. I (Kara Cassells) have been offering pelvic health support to men for many years now and we are now expanding the training to other members of the Balance Health team. ... We are looking for 3 men to be assessed and treated by myself. You will recieve the most up to date pre/post prostatectomy advice in terms of management of incontinence and erectile dysfunction. The session will include ultrasound assessment of the pelvic floor (jocks on!). Volunteering for this will not only be helping yourself, but also many men in the future!
