14.01.2022 FROM WEALTH TO WELL-BEING How much money it takes to be happy? It varies greatly around the world. Psychologists from various universities have been conducting a lot of studies around the correlation of money and happiness.... So let's have a look at how it was tested recently! Department of Psychology, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada: What did the study include? Subjects were asked to select the most appropriate amount of their household income. They were also requested to rate their overall happiness on a scale of 1-10. Respondents were asked to consider 10 different household incomes and predict the life satisfaction of someone at each income level. What was discovered? Higher levels of household income were associated with greater happiness. Participants made fairly accurate predictions about the happiness of people with a bigger household income Participants dramatically underestimated the happiness of people earning a lower household income This study reveals the following: People focus too much on the impact of money on their global life satisfaction This focusing illusion may lead individuals to ignore other avenues shown to impact happiness such as building social relationships. #isnpsychology_fun How would you rate your happiness? 01.01.2022 WE NEED MORE PSYCHOLOGISTS As the awareness of mental health continually grows, so does the demand for more psychologists. With the fast-growing rates of mental illness and awareness, a few private practices have been struggling to keep up to the workload due to not having enough staff.... The growing awareness around stress and anxiety builds high demand for psychologists, waiting lists at private practices now have grown significantly, and they struggle to maintain the duty of care. Technology and social media changed the way we communicate - therefore, people feel pressured to respond quickly and have conversations they wouldn't have had 20 years ago. A new joint report by Mission Australia and Black Dog Institute reveals many more young South Australians are experiencing psychological distress than 7 years ago. That is another proof that demand only increases. Psychologists are crucial to the betterment of one’s mental health. If you want to help people with their mental health, pursue a career in psychology at ISN, the Institute for Social Neuroscience and apply for one of our courses. #isnpsychology_career Original Source: "Growing awareness of mental health means too few psychologists to meet demand", The Advertiser, www.adelaidenow.com.au See more
