25.01.2022 Fellow Friday! Natalie is an exhibitions coordinator at MOD., a future-focused museum of discovery at the University of South Australia. In her role at MOD. she is responsible for the design and production of exhibitions. Passionate about audience engagement, in particular through the use of digital technologies, Natalie strives to create exhibitions that provide engaging visitor experiences. What is something that you recommend everyone tries at least once? I think that ...everyone should travel to the centre of Australia at least once. I drove from Adelaide into Central Australia last year and it was such a fantastic experience. What are you most looking forward to in your Fellowship? I am most looking forward to being able to leave the country! I cant wait to be able to visit some of the best museums in the world. It will be an amazing opportunity to get to know their staff and understand the ways that they work. What do you want to get out of your Fellowship? I am hoping that once I return I am able to be a really great resource to the GLAM sector, both in Adelaide and more broadly across the country. I hope that I am able to share my learnings and contribute to the burgeoning museum tech community.

21.01.2022 At the recently held OctoberVET conference Applied Research in TAFE During a Time of Pandemic: The Importance of Industry Partnerships, 2020 Fellow @Rajesh Iyer made a presentation that highlighted the importance of RTOs working with industry in the development of assessments. In the present environment around COVID, this collaboration and engagement becomes even more critical as behaviours within workplaces change and new working styles emerge. Another specific area where industry involvement becomes vital is around use of technology for development of student learning activities and even assessments. This is particularly true where it concerns students not able to access a physical space, or if there is considerable risk in accessing it. Well done to Rejesh on his presentation

09.01.2022 Amelia O'Donnell attended the MuseumNext DISRUPT as part of her Fellowship preparation. "The series of online talks, interviews and workshops asked How can museums make sense of the ground shifting beneath their feet? How can they provide better leadership in tough times? How are they reinventing themselves? As a conservator working in a public cultural institution in Australia, I wanted to see how, why and where my own profession operates within this changing space." What a great way to delve deeper into a Fellowship topic during a pandemic!

03.01.2022 FELLOW FRIDAY Grace Barrand is a cultural materials conservator working in frames conservation at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. She is passionate about education, skills and increasing accessibility to the sector. What is something that you recommend everyone tries at least once?... Visit the Northern Territory. I haven't been since I was a kid when I went with my family on a big 4WD trip, but I vividly remember how incredible and naturally rich it was. Can't wait to go back! What are you most looking forward to in your Fellowship? Meeting with the New Zealand Conservators of Cultural Materials to learn more about their views on the future of education, and how the NZ education system is actively forefronting more localised learning. What do you want to get out of your Fellowship? I want the findings from the Fellowship to act as a research base that helps the Australian profession take the next steps in establishing more formalised work-integrated learning models. I also want to further develop our relationship with the UK and NZ conservation communities, and use this as a way of continuing to learn from and grow with each other.

03.01.2022 FELLOW FRIDAY! Natalie Delaney-John is the owner and operator of Rest in Pieces, Australias only educational institute dedicated to teaching the dying arts. Her focus is on creating learning environments that are devoid of bookishness or elitism and safe spaces to engage in dialogue on topics surrounding death. What is something that you recommend everyone tries at least once?... Digging up dinosaurs! I have been lucky enough to work with a team of palaeontologists at the Carter County Museum in Ekalaka, Montana, on a number of digs now. Weve dug up the skull of a 60 thousand year old Mammoth (from a river, no less!) and a 60 million year old Plesiosaur. Next on the hit list is a Stegosaurus when I can return to the United States. What are you most looking forward to in your Fellowship? Well, other than being able to leave the studio that I create and live in (haha), I look forward to working with my international colleagues. Theyre some of the worlds most awarded practitioners in their fields of Taxidermy, Moulding, Casting and Zoological Sculpting. I want to come back with as many new skills as is humanly possible so Ive had Allis Markham of Prey Taxidermy in Los Angeles create a dedicated 6 week training program.

02.01.2022 Continue to reach for a life where you 'live' #issinstitute

01.01.2022 FELLOW FRIDAY Amelia O'Donnell is an early career cultural materials conservator currently based in Brisbane. Starting her career working with public documentary heritage collections held in archives and libraries she is all about finding practical ways to make cultural heritage more directly accessibleto the community. What is something you recommend everyone tries at least once?... For something fun- always try food that you think you won't like/don't know what it is. You never know what might tickle your tastebuds. On a serious note- try sitting down with and properly listening to someone who has an opposing opinion to your own. These days it seems like there are fewer opportunities and spaces to do this. What do you want to get out of your fellowship? I'd really like to see some considered, practical and pragmatic approaches to community-centred conservation practice. I hope to develop my own practices and bring back some new skills and ideas that can be realistically integrated into the training of conservators in Australian universities and workplaces. With limited funding in the arts sector and fewer opportunities for employment its really important that we learn to adapt our profession to meet the needs of a changing society.
