25.01.2022 Stefanos Nikolaidis, more fondly known as "Uncle Stefo", has been on this planet for 97 years! A native of Istanbul, his grandfather was the doctor to Abdul Hamid II, the last sultan of the Ottoman Empire. Uncle Stefo even got to meet Atatürk as a child! Today, we celebrated his birthday along with that of Tanya Kaplan, our amazing President of the Turkish Association of SA who has also had a fascinating life and continues to work tirelessly for the Turkish community. Happy birthday to you both!

22.01.2022 "Kekül" is an old Ottoman dessert which was served to the populace by the sultans to celebrate war victories, religious holidays and other important occasions. 20.01.2022 This is just to let you all know that we will be closed from the 25th of December until the 28th of December, however do not be sad! We have a steely determination to open up our little courtyard in time for the new year so this is what we will be doing when everyone is having a break. See you in the next few days or when we return on the 29th of December! (Photo: Türkan oray in Cemo)

09.01.2022 Love, success, money, fortune: the art of reading coffee grounds is as old as coffee itself. Coffee fortunetelling was born out of Turkish coffee and is an inseparable part of the pleasure and conversation associated with coffee. This ritual spread to Europe at the end of the 17th century when it became fashionable in Paris, from where it spread to Austria, Hungary and Germany. After the coffee is drunk the cup is placed upside down on its saucer. The person whose fortune is to be read says, Let my fortune match my state. After the cup has thoroughly cooled, the fortune-teller examines the patterns formed by the grounds. The aim is generally to impart good news and to promote a positive outlook on the future.

06.01.2022 "Lokum bunlar lokum" is a Turkish idiom which roughly translates to "These are Turkish delights". This expression is used to describe something as very fresh, very tasty, very sweet and very soft - just like Turkish delight. It could also be used to describe our Turkish delight cheesecake!
