16.01.2022 The ever-in-my-debt House designer A client, a house designer, rang and asked if we could upgrade her system to larger Hard drives and windows 7 64 bit. Her software was designed over an ancient software package that used a USB key to verify ownership. I built and installed the new system and soon discovered the software wasn't compatible with windows 7 at all I managed to get it running on the new 64 bit environment but it wouln't recognise the USB key and failed to start... Consultation with the company found they had moved on with their software and didn't support this version The new software was $20000!!! The designer couldn't afford that much so I talked with the techs more and discovered they had a work around for an earlier version but it worked only on a 32bit version. What was worse was they only had exe versions no code They sent me the files and with a bit of reverse engineering and creative computing I created a 64 bit work around!! One ecstatic customer :) See more
