21.01.2022 AGED SUPPORT FOR LOCAL ITALIANS IN THE SPOTLIGHT There are about 5,000 people from an Italian-speaking background in the Illawarra, and a local organisat...ion is hoping to put a greater focus on their aged care and housing needs. The organisation ItSoWel has bought two adjoining properties on Stewart Street from NSW Land and Housing. ItSoWel president Neil Reilly says the ownership change will help them better tailor services for the Italian community. "It gives us a security of tenure over this area, and this area is quite a good multicultural area, we have our Greek friends over the road, we have Macedonians and there's us," Mr Reilly said. "It means that if we want to increase the level of services that we provide, we can do so with confidence. Many Italians arrived as steelworkers in the 1960s and 70s. But now many are nearing retirement or are in their elderly years, and ItSoWel says the demand for support is greater than ever. Some high-profile dignitaries of Italian descent, including State Government frontbencher Victor Dominello, Consul General of Italy, Dr Arturo Arcano were in Wollongong today to mark the milestone. : Gavin Coote - ABC Illawarra

18.01.2022 ITSOWEL has commenced delivering its Italian Language and Culture Training for Aged Care Workers. This ten week training is specific to workers in the aged car...e sector caring for persons from an Italian background. ITSOWEL’s long history in the sector and being the peak community organisation for Italians in the Illawarra, has a wealth of knowledge and experience. We congratulate Multicultural Aged Care Illawarra and the CEO, Jim Buultjens, for partnering with ITSOWEL and continuing to support the delivery of culturally sensitive care. 10.01.2022 ITSOWEL is now taking enrolments for our COCCINELLA CHILDREN'S ITALIAN LANGUAGE AND CULTURE language courses. Courses will be offered on a Saturday morning for... 3-5 year olds and After School Hours for children 6-11 years. Classes will be commencing first week in February. 05.01.2022 The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission conducted a quality review of ITSOWEL’s aged care services on 13 December 2018. We are proud to announce that the C...ommission has now forwarded their report and has found ITSOWEL compliant with all 18 outcomes of the Home Care Standards! The accreditors from ACQSC visited ITSOWEL and reviewed policies and procedures, spoke to clients and their carers, volunteers and staff. The excellent result indicates that ITSOWEL and its services are operating according to the standards set by Government for the delivery of aged care. ITSOWEL is here to help the ageing in our community to maintain their independence and age well in their own homes. Do you know anyone who may need some help?
