24.01.2022 COVID 19 Measures: Hi everyone, I just wanted to let you know of measures I feel are necessary to ensure everyone's safety in these challenging times. 1. This a...fternoon, about 2pm I will go into the dojang and disinfect the floor and kicking shields etc. Anyone who wishes to assist would be very welcome. 2. I will place soap and antiseptic gel beside the sinks with paper towels in each of the changing rooms and gel at the entry to the dojang for visitors. 3. We will all have to clean our hands before and after class, this is an essential mechanism to minimise the risk of contagion. 4. Boxes of tissue will be available within the dojang for anyone to clear their throat etc. 5. Do not come to training if you are at all unwell, this includes respiratory infections but also other illnesses that may be impacted if you catch Covid 19 6. We need to disinfect the mats and kicking shields after every class, we have several mops and buckets to do this and I would ask that we all contribute to doing this at the end of each class. 7. The most challenging aspect will be to try to minimise contact with each other during this time, to this end i will try to modify classes to allow us to train well but not touch each other. This will no doubt be the most difficult aspect of our training but if we wish to continue classes we must do this. I am open to ideas that will assist in this process. If you have any other ideas that we should use to minimise our risks of contracting the virus please feel free to let me know. Please note that our friends from the Aikido class that share our space have decided to cancel classes for two months. I hope we will not have to do this but we will follow all government directives as required. On another small matter, i have been called to perform jury duty for three weeks from the 30th March (the 3rd week is Easter so it is really only two weeks) and if selected I may need to arrive at class a few minutes late occasionally since the jury is dismissed at 4pm. l will let all students that this affects know if this is an issue. Thank you for your support and help. Take care everyone and look after each other. Regards, -- Master Steve Weston Chair of the Umpire and Tournament Committee, ITF HQ Master Instructor, Southern ITF Taekwon-Do Tel (+61) 0408990859 e-mail [email protected]

See more

16.01.2022 Hi everyone, I wanted to raise an issue that has occurred recently. Several parents have advised me that they were not going to bring their child to class becau...se they had a "cold" and the child was not feeling well. I thank you for not bringing your child to class, this is the right thing to do. However, we must also now look at the advice of our health professionals who are saying that if someone has "cold like" symptoms such as a runny nose, itchy throat, fever or any kind of respiratory illness then they should be tested for Covid 19. This should be a straightforward procedure of contacting your GP (you can use telehealth) and asking for a referral to be tested at the Salamanca place centre. Once the test is completed the person should self isolate until they receive their result (usually given in 24-48 hours) and follow the appropriate protocol dependent on the result. Now we all know that the likelihood of the child having Covid 19 is at this point very low, and it is most likely that your child does just have a cold. But the risk is that if the child is infected then even after they "recover" (given that symptoms in children are usually mild) they will likely still be infectious. If they then attend a class, it is possible that others and myself could become infected. In my case this could be very serious, indeed one of my colleagues in the US of a similar age to myself just passed away as a result of developing Covid 19. So, my suggestion is that if your child is at all unwell with such symptoms, that you insist on getting your child tested, which although unpleasant and somewhat inconvenient, may actually stop the spread of the virus. If you have a problem with this suggestion please feel free to discuss it with me. Thank you for your attention to this matter, Regards, -- Master Steve Weston Chair of the Umpire and Tournament Committee, ITF HQ Master Instructor, Southern ITF Taekwon-Do Tel (+61) 0408990859 e-mail [email protected] See more

07.01.2022 Hi everyone, I'm sure it will come as great news to everyone that with some restrictions we can return to training in the dojang from Friday this week (5th June...). I would like to first offer my thanks to all of the students who have persisted with the on-line training during the lockdown, it has been an interesting and challenging adventure running these classes. In regards to restarting classes at the Dojang, I am putting together a plan to ensure we can continue safely and absolutely minimise the risk of transmission of the Covid 19 virus. This will mean we need to ensure we adhere to the following protocols: 1. No one should attend any class if they are experiencing any symptom of infection of Covid 19, cold or flu. (i.e. loss of smell/taste, sore throat, fever, dry cough, sneezing, shortness of breath, unusual tiredness, headache, rash on skin, conjunctivitis, unexplained aches and pains). 2. Everyone should wash their hands on entry to the dojang and sanitise feet using spray provided, and sanitise either if necessary during class. 3. Please change into dobok before arriving at the dojang, if you need to get changed at the dojang only one person will be allowed in the changing room at any time. 4. Follow the mantra "Get in, Train, Get out" 5. Training will be limited to 20 people per class (including instructors) and to monitor numbers all students must register for a class before midday on the day of each class they wish to attend. This can be done using SMS (0408990859), email ([email protected]) or using "facebook messenger". 6. Physical distancing should be maintained at all times (one person for each 4 meters) and all training and interactions should be non-contact including social interactions 7. All equipment used for training should be sanitised immediately after use, and floors/ surfaces cleaned at the end of the day 8. Bring your own water bottle and towel and sanitise water bottle using spray bottle of sanitiser when necessary 9. Spectators are discouraged at this point of time so parents should stop, drop and go wherever possible 10. We are discouraging the use of cash at the dojang, so should you need to pay for anything please use credit facilities or electronic funds transfer 11 We encourage the downloading of the Covidsafe app, but this is a personal choice and is not required So my plan is to return to a modified timetable starting on Monday 8th June provided I get sufficient numbers to run classes that day. Here is the proposed schedule: Children:All white belt to black stripe children on Monday and Wednesday from 4pm-4.45pm All yellow stripe and above children (up to 12 years of age) from 5pm-5.45pm on Monday and Wednesday Adults (13 years and over)Classes on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6pm-7.15pm I'm happy to review these times after a few weeks should it be necessary but I need feedback from members to facilitate their needs. Particularly from parents, you need to let me know if this causes significant problems for you, I will try to address your concerns but naturally, I cannot tailor individual class times (although I have done so on occasion) and need to provide the best outcome for the most members. Finally, and just to reiterate, we need any members to register for each class they intend to attend before midday on the day of the class, this is particularly true for the classes on Monday 8th June which is designated as a public holiday. I am happy to run the classes on this day but would prefer to know that there is reasonable interest before I set aside this time. 01.01.2022 Dear Friends and Taekwon-Do Practitioners, March 22nd is a very special date in Taekwon-Do history as on this day, 54 years ago the International Taekwon-Do Fed...eration was formed in Seoul, South Korea. This international body aimed to put Taekwon-Do on the global arena and promote its noble and unique values. These days, the International Taekwon-Do Federation has been fractured into many small groups that very often work independently. One of the goals of ITF HQ is to bring Taekwon-Do together under a common roof as per the wish of our founder General Choi Hong Hi One ITF, Korea Centered. To commemorate this day, ITF HQ is launching a newsletter that aims to inform the Taekwon-Do community and all interested parties about our activities and programs that can be offered to any Taekwon-Do, TaeKwonDo or Taekwondo members regardless of affiliation. We believe that extending hands and opening arms, working together and exchanging communication is an essential step in the unification of the Art. Happy Taekwon-Do anniversary in such challenging times. Stay safe, healthy. We hope you will enjoy the newsletter. See more
