25.01.2022 Thunderstorms and lightning Don't forget to disconnect your modem from the phone line to reduce this risk of a lightning strike damaging your modem.

23.01.2022 Computer support, repairs and training by a local and affordable expert.

22.01.2022 **WARNING** *DO NOT LET ANYONE YOU DON'T KNOW TAKE REMOTE CONTOL OF YOUR COMPUTER* If someone calls you and claims to be from Telstra, or even your bank, and wants to help you fix your computer or asks for details about you or your banking, DON'T TELL THEM ANYTHING. Not even who you bank with.... If someone asks you to install TeamViewer, DON'T DO IT unless you know them and trust them. Don't think that because your bank sends you a text message to confirm transactions that you are safe if someone takes control of your computer. In short, our SMS messages are not secure. It is possible for someone to intercept text messages sent to your mobile. Many banks now have either a token or an app that runs on your phone to provide this extra level of security. If you want some of the technical details, check out this link: https://www.theverge.com//sms-two-factor-authentication-ha. I have had to help several customers recently by scanning their computer for malware, and then prepare a report for them to submit to their bank said they could get their internet banking access reinstated.

18.01.2022 Some of you may have receive an email from Microsoft "Our terms of use are changing". There is nothing that you *need* to do. I will not suggest that you don't read the new terms, but I've seen enough people install software and know that unless they can read these agreements without scrolling the whole document, they don't read them. I'm the same. I find the headings that I think are the ones that will impact me, and read those.... But what are the changes? I don't know. Not being able to find the current agreement to compare the new with, and Microsoft stating "To see all of the updates, we recommend that you read the full agreement, but here are highlights of a few key changes:" in the FAQ (http://windows.microsoft.com//microsoft-services-agreement) So Microsoft are highlighting a few changes .... I would be nice if they would post the differences between the documents. Unless the current agreement is empty and these are the changes...? Also according to Microsoft FAQ "Your privacy is of utmost importance to us ...". The actual agreement (http://windows.microsoft.com//windows/microsoft-services-a) is a long document that would probably require most of us to take out a second mortgage to get a lawyer to read it. Yes there was a paragraph heading in the email "Simplicity". A quick copy and paste into Word reveals that Microsoft consider a 30 page 16,331 word document is simple.

18.01.2022 For those that have an interest in low/no emission cars. The performance of these cars is far better than the Sungroper that I helped drive in the 2003 World Solar Challenge from Darwin to Adelaide (http://www.sungroper.asn.au/) And our car at the time cost the team about $60-70,000, and looked .... well you decide. (http://www.sungroper.asn.au/race/oct15/DSC00059.JPG)... I think "Prototype" is a good word.

13.01.2022 OK, So I have updated the Bushfire scanner setup that I have here. This morning I was able to hear the Julimar fire communications. I have replaced the computer that runs this setup with a "new" one (new to the job, still about 6 years old though) The three feeds currently provide : Northam (VFRS and VBFS)... 11.01.2022 I have signed up for NBN fixed wireless broadband with Telstra, and I am aware that people in the area have different opinions regarding NBN, so I thought I'd collate the opinions in one location, and hope to identify and rectify broadband supply issues in our region.

08.01.2022 Here is an interesting article that I was asked to review before publication. It helps guide the non-technical user through the seemingly impossible maze of questions regarding what computer to purchase.
