25.01.2022 Friends, we are able to make change. I am a great fan of Broadchurch and was distressed to see one of my favourite characters attempt suicide after a number of others also expressed ideation. Yet there was no warning before or after the episode. I alerted SBS in Demand and they quickly responded: In the context of the episode and the series as a whole, helpline information was not provided when the series was first broadcast. However we have reviewed this decision in ...light of your feedback and given the current circumstances, and determined that helpline information should be provided. We thank you for bringing it to our attention. A board containing Helpline details has been added at the end of the episode alerting viewers to immediate 24/7 assistance available via Beyond Blue and Lifeline. Once again, we thank you for writing to us with your concerns. SBS appreciates the opportunity to be able to respond on this matter. Thank you SBS - I appreciate the response to community concerns.
24.01.2022 It is really good to see gifted communicators talking about the art. Here is one that most people fudge ... ok I’ll own it ... I often fudge this one. The apology with a sting in the tail ... is not an apology! And the word but should be banished eternally!
24.01.2022 What do you do if you’re a Rugby commentator and have no sport available to ply your trade?

20.01.2022 All of us have experienced anxiety. Some of us experience it as a constant and unwelcome interference in our daily lives, a nagging persistent voice that constantly puts us down and tells us we’re not good enough. This is a nice summary of things to avoid saying and good responses.
19.01.2022 Anxiety and Fear are a natural part of what many of us are experiencing. Our way of life feels threatened and the future feels uncertain. This article suggests that grief sits behind our collective experience: We feel the world has changed, and it has. We know this is temporary, but it doesn’t feel that way, and we realize things will be different. Just as going to the airport is forever different from how it was before 9/11, things will change and this is the point at whi...ch they changed. The loss of normalcy; the fear of economic toll; the loss of connection. This is hitting us and we’re grieving. Collectively. https://hbr.org//03/that-discomfort-youre-feeling-is-grief
19.01.2022 Fascinating insight into one of our favourite Australian comedians! Hamish Blake talking to his teenage self on mental health! https://www.facebook.com/38437995542/posts/10163592322770543/?vh=e
19.01.2022 Interesting choice of YouTube clip for the last day of 2020. Somehow very appropriate as we sit in quarantine after a very unusual year. Stay well, friends. https://youtu.be/7XaSm9-r_4U
17.01.2022 Collecting stories is an important part of my work. Putting a human face on a label inspires empathy over judgment, understanding beyond assumptions. This was a really interesting piece from a surprising source describing one woman’s experience of Borderline Personality Disorder. https://apple.news/A7BHK0oJLRl2DpfyFYfj3PQ
12.01.2022 Please Don’t Judge
11.01.2022 There’s a chorus of people who work in mental health calling for a change in terminology. Physical distancing Social Connection... Let’s change the conversation. The two challenges we face: the COVID-19 virus and social disconnection. Both have significant effects on the health of our nation.
