And just in case you are in need for last minute ideas of what to hide underneath the tree : we are open every day from 11 am to 4 pm and if busy even longer on the 24th so pop in to get a gift or just have a chat with us !

18.01.2022 Have you been enchanted by a Weihnachtspyramide yet ?? Christmas Pyramids (German: Weihnachtspyramide) are Christmas decorations that have their roots in the folklore and customs of the Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains) region of Germany. A beautiful Christmas Pyramid spreads warm light over your living-room and creates a unique festive atmosphere : when the candles are lit, the tiers slowly begin to turn creating an enchanting play of light and shadow. (Simple physics heat from... the little tea lights rises and the wings rotate.) We have several styles in the store which are proving to be very popular. Why not gift one to a friend (or yourself) this year so they can share in this beautiful Christmas tradition too.

A guardian angel is always handy; have a smile at delightful scenes with a toy maker, at a shoe shop and see some skiers reminisce about winter. Anyone in need to kiss the frog turning him into a prince ? Light the candle and he will run around in circles for you ! Or just light up the Barbie. 09.01.2022 Ho Ho Ho was yesterday but let’s not get the Easter Bunny yet ! First : the New Year is coming, so let’s make each new month a beautiful one with Eileen’s Art Wine Calendar. Eileen is a local Visual Artist and her calendar features 12 unique paintings inspired by wineries of the McLaren Vale wine region in South Australia. 08.01.2022 Sankt Nikolaus is not Santa Claus ! (A poem by Clement Clark Moore and big companies created that myth later on. But this is another story.) Originally, he was a Bishop in what is now known as Turkey . Nikolaus was born into a wealthy family, but he chose to be a monk, and later a priest. When his parents died, he chose to give his inheritance away to the needy. During the rule of the Roman Emperor Diocletian he was arrested for his crime of being a Christian. (Ironically..., at the time, the jails were so full of Priests and Bishops, there was no room for robbers and murderers.) He was known for his kindness, especially to children. In Germany, Sankt Nikolaus and his companion, visit homes on the evening of the 5th, and ask whether Children were behaving. Sankt Nikolaus would be dressed in white robes and carrying a book, to double check behaviour, and his Bishop’s Staff. Kids would be asked about for their behaviour and invited to recite poems or sing a song. The child would get a gift for doing well. Knecht Ruprecht; there are different names in different regions of Germany; is a more sinister figure, who carried a sack and a switch. Children who were bad could be given a switch.
