23.01.2022 TUG OF WAR CHALLENGE This time of the year is spent with the people you love enjoying great food and drink, and sometimes we can go a bit overboard during this time However there is nothing worse than being in the midst of your food coma regretting that second slice of Christmas pudding and sometimes you can feel the repercussions of eating poorly for days after! The best way to get out of that food coma rut is to get your body moving! So we have a fun daily tug of war ...challenge while the studio is closed over this period! So grab a friend family member or friend and challenge them to a tug of war Set your timer and complete - 1 min run - 10 jump squats - 2 min run - 20 burpees - 3 min run - 30 sit ups - 4min run - 40 bunny hops - 5 min run - 40 shoulder taps Time your workout and the person that finishes it quicker is the winner of the tug of war. Challenge each other and see if you can beat your friend next round. Technique is important so no cheating. Tag your tug of war buddy below!

23.01.2022 What happens on week 13 of a 12-week challenge? Summer is around the corner and as we're coming out of ISO just about to gear up to see almost every corner of the weight loss industry on the planet (well in Melbourne anyway) offering a 12 week challenge. And look, I know for some people it's a great time frame to get a kick you up the butt that so many need. Plus, in the past watching my clients complete the 12 week block I know it can be a great kick off to an amazing jour...ney, you will definitely feel better, you’ll even start to the changes in your body yourself, not just on the scales either. But I wonder what happens on week 13? Do you continue on for another round? Are you transformed for life? What I see is a lot of bounce-back weight gain. People become so strict in the 12 weeks to lose as much weight as possible, they can't possibly enjoy it. It was like punishment. And the flip side of punishment? Rewards. So they reward themselves for doing a good job, for a job done right. But they overdo it and binge out. Getting the weight back they try so hard to lose, often gaining more than a third back in the first 10 days. When you choose to transform, you need to make a conscious decision that you will make this for life. A long-lasting, ongoing change for the better. Yes, we do usually work in 12-week blocks, (however this year we can only offer a 7 week block due to COVID-19 set backs) but it is never one 12 week block, it is many more, your first 12 week block is just the beginning of your transformation journey. Check it out below "I also struggle with the stereotype of beauty, actually I struggle with lots of stereotypes and I’ve realised now I’m older and wiser that I’ve spent a lot of my life unconsciously breaking stereotypes. I went to uni to study law when it was male dominated domain, I ride a motorbike, I’m a greenie, I do target pistol shooting for a sport, I like colour, I like reading and sewing and... gardening, I was quiet and shy and taught myself to socially converse, I buy second hand clothes from the Op shop, I’m still a lawyer, a female lawyer in a small country farming town...... So goals to get to a certain weight, to fit into a dress, just don’t make it happen for me. I want to be fit and healthy, but that’s a pretty generic loose sort of thing to aim for. I focus on the process, rather than the end result. Even though I’m content, that’s only because I choose to accept today and enjoy today because it will never be here again. I’m excited about what this next year will bring. I’m fitter, stronger, more focussed. My shooting has improved (I got a perfect 50 target). I can do things my peers can’t (like pack away 3 chairs at once). I eat and wear colour! I can straighten my knee. I’m not having surgery. I stopped thinking. I started doing. This is forever..." 19.01.2022 Blame it on the holidays, Christmas parties, celebrating with family and friends you haven’t seen all year. Or maybe you just got too crazy busy to think about what you were eating. Maybe you threw caution -- and your normal eating plan -- to the wind during your footloose and fancy-free Christmas. Whatever the cause, it happened: you went off your nutrition plan. It happens to all of us. The important thing is to stop beating yourself up and jump right back into your healt...hy eating plan. Here are my top 3 tips to help you get back on track: 1. Don't turn the relapse into a moral issue. You're not a bad person or destined to fail just because you slipped up. Think of the setback as a way to develop coping skills so that it doesn’t happen as frequently over the rest of the year. 2. Learn from your experience. If you don't recognise what led you to fall off the nutrition wagon, you'll probably react the same way the next time the situation arises. Write down a list of the situations that trigger you to over do it, and plan an alternative for each. For example, if party foods like chips, dips, pastries and cakes are your what brings you (and sometimes your pants) undone maybe have a healthy snack beforehand to keep your appetite and your metabolism in check. 3. Don't try to make up for the slip with a punishing regime of diet and exercise. You may lose weight this way, but you're almost sure to gain it back. This will only set up an unhealthy pattern of gaining and losing, and create anxiety about your relationship with food. You know at MP we are about FIRE and ICE programs. If you are spending more time working out at home than you do when you are in the gym you might be over doing it and that is a problem in it’s self. Look, whatever has happened it is done now. There is no point worrying about the past. You can only learn from it, so do that. Remember 2021 is your year. You survived 2020, now it is time to thrive. Xxx



19.01.2022 Congratulations my lovely’s on getting through this pandemic thus far #covidnormal #sofarsogood And while it was a relief to get back to COVID normal for me I still have a handful of clients that won’t be coming back for some time. They have been told it is their best health interests to stay at home because they are still in high-risk categories for COVID. They are in their 70s and therefore choosing to stay at home. I understand, I just miss them and can’t wait to see them... soon. For a lot of my clients, COVID was a bit of a wake-up call. We’d hear the ages of people getting sick, that were high risk and those that tragically died. So what stage of life will you be at when the next health issue happens, the next time there is a serious viral outbreak? It's generally advertised to people over 60 to have the flu shot. Do you get them as a precaution? What if you are younger? I mean I'm no epigenetic specialist (a word I learned throughout COVID, ) but I do know this... Having more muscle function and flexibility from weight training is going to help you in life, regardless of age. Having more lean muscle tissue, bone density and reduced body fat from weight training is certainly going to keep you healthier overall more than a flu shot could ever do. So make the choice now and start to give your body the gift of energy and strength. 18.01.2022 The dreaded ‘Why are you not drinking question?’ ... It’s nearly the festive season with Christmas fast approaching and although we aren't having as many parties as last year there are still some parties to be had. Each and every year, almost without fail at every event I attended, I get asked ‘I'm choosing not to drink alcohol, what can I drink?’ and ‘How do I avoid the awkward questions about not drinking?’ You might make a choice not to drink alcohol because you don't w...ant the calories, maybe you're the designated driver, or you are just not that into it. Frankly, it doesn't matter to me what your decision is, I just want to help you get around it because I know myself, the awkwardness of getting asked. So here are the top two tips from myself and my clients: Kumboucha mini bottles in a stubby holder. Stubby holders, such an Aussie thing. I love them, they keep your drinks cool and for this purpose, hide the label of what you are drinking. As for kumboucha, it’s what myself and my clients drink because it gives you some sweetness and it's good for the gut. But don't ever do a six-pack or else you won't be invited to any parties because it can make you a little bit gassy! The other option... Soda water and lime. Cut up a lime and throw it short glass with some soda water. It looks like you're having a spirit #somature. And if anybody asks what you are drinking you can tell them your reasons. In my experience, if you look like you're drinking, then nobody's going to ask anyway. You can tell people to mind their business. Or you can ignore it. Me, I’d like to help you just skip the awkward questions and have you basking in the glory of them telling you how fabulous you look! 18.01.2022 Healthy Filling And Fun - A Very MP Christmas! Saturday saw ITS Personal celebrating the year that was 2020. With gym closures, Zoom classes and gallons of disinfectant, everything this year was different.... So I decided to follow the theme and do something a little different with our long-awaited Christmas Party. Delicious food prepared by our resident chef and event catering queen, Nancy Prinsci from Glam City Events @glamcityeventsau is always popular with my clients, sometimes I think they come for her food and I am just the bonus. But this year we went next level. Nancy did something that made the biggest impact on my clients. 17.01.2022 They laugh at me when I do this. If you’ve been to my gym in Winter, no doubt you’ve seen me in my length Kathmandu jacket. It’s warm, comfortable and almost covers all of me, kind of like my own personal portable doona. When I take off my doona jacket as I start to warm up, someone always comments on my muscles or says, ‘ ahh now I can see them.’ Funny thing is, it’s the same thing when my clients get rid of their body fat through better eating and exercise. You see, I c...all body fat ‘your doona.’ The muscles are under there, but you simply can’t see them because of the layers of fat over the top. And I don’t say fat in the cultural version of fat, I mean what is the mass of fat, the adipose tissue. Me, as with many of my opinions...... ‘Your body, Your choice.’ But I have to tell you this. Whether you do or you don’t there are ways that you can turn back the clock a little without (or to supplement) your external skin care routine. Here is the thing. I get a lot of comments on my skin and hair. I giggle because people are sometimes shocked when I tell them how old I actually am (I am over 50, which I am only telling you because I had a big party a few years ago and there are photos everywhere.) Let me show you Set two cones or markers (e.g. a chair) 10 metres apart. ... Begin with completing 10 reps of the exercise. Between sets complete the required number of runs. In your next set do one less rep, eventually working yourself down to 1 rep in the final set. For example Day 3 week 4. 12.01.2022 But it says I should only have 1200 calories a day Calorie counting and why I don’t ever recommend it. Firstly, I am no good at maths so I would always stuff up the numbers. ... Secondly, it is not a one size fits all approach. I am 5.2ft and my client Kate is 5.6ft, obviously, we are both women and we have similar activity levels. According to many ‘calorie counting calculators,’ we should have the same amount of calories. Pfft. At this stage, you might want to know what is a calorie? A calorie is a measure of energy. And like any measurements, there are lots of variables. You have probably heard that not all calories are the same. It’s true, but here is the thing Counting calories is like going shopping. It is not a one size fits all approach. You might be a size 10 in Country Road and a 14 in Supre. We assume that there is a standard, but like Australian clothing sizes, there unquestionably isn’t. (You fellas are alright though, 32inches is 32inches it doesn’t change) When I am working with clients inside the nutrition program we don’t look at limiting their calories, we look at increasing their metabolism. It is your metabolism that is what makes you burn through the energy. (Remember that is all calories really are, a measure of energy.) Building muscle increases your metabolism. If you have more muscle your body burns through the energy calories give you faster. So no, you shouldn’t be having 1200 calories a day. And let's not even talk about, calories of fats v’s calories in protein. 11.01.2022 !!!My Secret Confession!!! It is super exciting for me each November when we do client transformation photo shoots. It is the time for my clients to show off their hard work and dedication with a professional photographer. They get their make up and hair done, a tan on and bust out some super cute outfits that really showcase their physique. But I must tell you a little secret... Although I love seeing these photo’s they are not they are not my favourite. Why? Two reasons... ... Firstly, these photos are not taken for me, they are taken for my clients to keep, treasure and show off. Secondly, I know they are coming and I know what to expect. I already know they are going to be spectacular! Want to know my favourite photos? The ones I love are a little cut off, the lighting is terrible, they are taken in bedroom mirrors complete with piles of clothes on the bed off to the side. And they come with a caption like... ‘I haven’t worn a skirt in 7 years’ ‘This is the first time since I had my kids that I am not wearing frustrating and annoying body shaping underwear’ ‘OMG I am wearing jeans that button up and I have no muffin top #winning’ ‘I showed hubby my strapless dress, and he said the party is cancelled we are staying in tonight ;)’ They are photos are taken just for me, are sent with excitement and no one else will ever see them. So, if you see me grinning ear to ear at a picture but I won’t show you what it is, now you know my little secret why! And yes, I do get lots of pictures everyday, they are from my nutrition clients. 09.01.2022 Hitting your goals in 2021 I don’t care how many times you’ve tried before and not met your weight loss and fitness goals. Give yourself credit for trying again because the worst thing you can do is quit. As we have seen this year with our MP Transformation winner, Ourania, this is not something that is going to happen overnight or in a 12 week period. This is something that you need to commit too for life. ... So here are my tips for hitting your goals in 2021. Inside the gym: Let me take your photos and measurements at the start of every block. You might not notice the changes, but we know the camera and the numbers don’t lie. Follow the program. Turn up, do the work, get better, see results. Outside the gym: Be Flexible Life happens. Family emergencies arise, injuries creep in, unexpected work crises occur. There are so many things you can’t predict in life. Rather than giving up on your goal altogether, take the time to tweak your goal to fit your new situation. There is never an ideal time to lose weight and get fit. There is always another holiday, birthday, family trip, work emergency, or school deadline. Make sure that the goals that you set are accounting for real life. This isn’t one of those ‘The Biggest Loser’ type TV shows and you aren’t living on the Channel Ten compound with the only goal of losing as much weight as possible. Find ways to honour your personal priorities, enjoy celebrations, and still stay on track. Be intentional. Knowing you want to lose weight and get fit is one thing but actually having a plan to move you forward is what is going to get you results! So when we are back in January and you come in for your measurements, let me know your goals. Let’s be intentional and write them down on at the top of your program. Take a leaf out of our reigning champions book (however I think she might have pinched it from an old shampoo advertisement).... It won’t happen overnight... but it will happen.

Challenge them to a tug of war Set your timer and complete... - 1 min run - 10 jump squats - 2 min run - 20 burpees - 3 min run - 30 sit ups - 4min run - 40 bunny hops - 5 min run - 40 shoulder taps Time your workout and the person that finishes it quicker is the winner of the tug of war. This is a big, deep from the heart, almost ugly cry, enormous ‘Thank you’ to all of my clients. Thank you for the unwavering love and support you've given me over the past six months. Thank you for making sure that I never felt alone for long. Thank you for dragging me back to happiness in those times when I was wondering if it was all going to be worth it. Thank you for reminding ...me each and every day I was going to be able to come back from the brink of a business breakdown that you all wouldn’t let me fail. You all energised me each and every day. From a message, or a call, a social post or even my own videos and photo reminders it has been an absolute privilege to be able to help you make long-lasting changes in your lives. It makes me feel that I have my own little army of people, a squad, a crew, those that support me and each other. Yes, I see you and it what brings me more joy is seeing the messages of support you write on each other's posts.I know that some of you haven't even crossed paths in the gym but you are there for each other.
