15.01.2022 Monday’s launch podcast guest-stars Sunrise’s Tamra Bow who shares this pearl of wisdom, I don't want you to make something up. If you don't know it, just say to me, ‘I'm going to go and find that for you’ and make sure to do before the deadline. Word. PR Rule #1: Never give a journalist false information. While it’s tempting to fill the gaps when put on the spot, you should never lie to a journalist. The message you share with a journo has far-reaching consequences ...+ it’s not just your credibility on the line when you depart from facts, but the journalist’s too. So, if you don’t know, don’t pretend you do! Take the time to find the information + then report back to the reporter as soon as you can. If the search comes up empty, report back that too. A journo may be holding a blank spot in their story waiting to fill the gap, so don’t compromise their deadline. Being good at PR is about balancing the needs of a journalist + the needs of your client. It helps if you can understand how newsrooms work + the nuanced language of the media.
