24.01.2022 This week on @thesallysteeleshow I sat down with lovely, Amanda Ramsay @amandaramsaymakeup , an Australian award-winning makeup artist who spent the early part of her career as an advertising executive in the UK, before realising her true career passion lay on the other side of the set as a make-up artist. Since reinventing herself, she has had a very successful career in London and Sydney in advertising and fashion editorial before moving back to Queensland to focus on bu...ilding her business as an over 40s makeup expert and sharing her expertise to empower women to love the skin they’re in. In this episode we also chat about: The mantra that Amanda’s father instilled in her to make the most of every single encounter and step into her confidence every day. Her early years growing up in Santa Monica, LA and the impact her bold, adventurous mother Wendy, who headed to the US aged 18 to build a life for herself has had on her view on life. Amanda’s experiences as a mother of two boys and her views on parenting a child with ADHD and running her combination of well-oiled but winging it household. Defining herself as a tomboy when she was younger and the body image issues she grappled with as a teen, and how her love of sport got her through and led her to study Sports Science at University. How she fell into a role in advertising and quit after a decade, did a makeup course and worked for free as a makeup artist for a year, viewing it as university to really make the most of the opportunities to learn from the best. How Amanda has evolved into becoming the poster girl for 40s + makeup tutorials and how a conversation in her 30s with her mother-in-law planted the seed. Her wish to swap anti ageing for pro- age and her deep love for helping women be playful, radiate joy and luminosity at any age. And finally, we shine a light on others and hear about Amanda’s favourite charity @bcnapinklady Breast Cancer Network So, enjoy this uplifting, tip and love-laden episode with the amazing Amanda Ramsay. #newpodcast #podcastsforwomen #makeuppodcast #over40style #over40skincare #40plus #sallysteele

23.01.2022 2 Reasons to love Polka Dots 1. polka dots are like stripes after a glass of bubbles 2. What I do is help others connect the dots - be it in mindset and ridding themselves of self limiting beliefs and behaviours, making imposter syndrome work for them or see where their profound value led passion and purpose comes from and where it can take them. ... Do you love dots, spots and polka dots ? Here some deep dot inspiration from one of my favourite creatives YAYOI KUSAMA After all, well, moon is a polka dot, sun is a polka dot, and then, the earth where we live is also a polka dot. With just one polka dot, nothing can be achieved Polka-dots can't stay alone; like the communicative life of people, two or three polka-dots become movement... Polka-dots are a way to infinity I am happy that the polka dots I started using have become a symbol of love and peace around the world with everybody joining hands to use them in this way My life is a dot lost among thousands of other dots Swipe to see Yayoi whose work I discovered in Japan in the early 90s #wearingmywardrobe shirt thrifted gift from @bmaryd polka dot skirt bought in London 2018 preloved sequin jacket eBay bag Gucci strap Oroton espadrille sandals Target

21.01.2022 Good on you Mason - we need more men of all ages and backgrounds realising that this won’t end until men hold other men accountable and band together with women to make new societal norms

16.01.2022 PAW FECT - last night I managed to do drop offs After school care tag team with the Man change and head straight baout to support the opening of new @rspcaopshopsqld concept store on Racecourse Rd in Ascot and I’m glad I did. Not only did I get cuddles from this wee border collie pup waiting for adoption and its forever family - I came home with Versace sunglasses, an Oroton bag, cute Gorman dress and Puma jacket and have helped the important work @rspcaqld do - currentl...y 2121 animals in care, over 700 in foster care and I learned about their incredible and critical #petsincrisisprogram supporting #domesticviolencesurvivors. Pets in Crisis provides a safe house for the pets of individuals at serious risk of domestic violence. Women who need to seek refuge but who are unable to find care for their pets can contact the DVConnect 24 hour crisis line on 1800 811 811 and DVConnect will work directly with RSPCA Qld to find temporary care for their pets at either an RSPCA Animal Care Centre across the State or with trained RSPCA foster carers. Pets in Crisis is a critical program that delivers many community benefits. On the one hand, it provides women with a release from their ‘hostage’ situations and enables families to seek refuge. On the other, pets are protected from violence or abandonment and are able to be reunited with their families when they are in a safe environment. Research shows that up to 25% of women in violent situations where there is a family pet present may remain in that situation because of concern for the welfare of their pet should they leave. Each animal stays on average for 30 days = almost 4,000 care days plus veterinary expenses costing over $250,000 annually. Women who need to seek refuge but who are unable to find care for their pets can contact the DVVonnect 24 hour crisis line on 1800 811 811 and DVConnect will work directly with RSPCA Qld. 09.01.2022 Who’s coming ? #MarchWithUs

09.01.2022 I’m marching tomorrow - are you ? #whyimarch I and almost every woman I know has been abused, harassed, threatened, hurt by men who never were made to be accountable. Who were seen as good guys by other men, peers, workmates.... I have been silent, frozen, smiled, made jokes, hidden, barricaded rooms, complied, given in to keep my job, stay safe, survive. I have experienced all levels of abuse and harassment from the age of 12 - from flashers, to cars following me home from school, catcalling, unwanted advances from teen boys, ejaculated on on public transport, to sexual assault, rape and an ex boyfriend punching me right across the bar I was working behind because I had broken up with him half a year before. until #metoo I did not talk about it with other women as i had accepted the patriarchal messaging that I must have provoked, asked for it, been at fault for being out in the world being free and living my life. This does not even count the countless times I’ve been afraid walking in a well lit area on my own, staying in a motel, being on a quiet bus or train, walking .... after dark - I have like most women learned to be hyper vigilant - to read the room, the mood, I know I am white and privileged - I am very aware that I am lucky that I can afford to live where I live, not have to take public transport late, not be homeless and vulnerable, not have to endure violence and sexual assault as part of my daily life, have a feminist husband who has helped me heal. I refuse to stay under the radar - and want my daughters your daughters all women, non binary, trans, BIPOC, BAME women to feel safe from harm to live, bloom and grow. the patriarchy and our social system supports abusers and not survivors. make your voice heard. Be seen. Don’t go to the gym, or get sushi tomorrow lunchtime - come March with us - #enoughisenough SO OVER THIS SHIT There is also petition at @march4justiceau demanding change, please sign and march tomorrow if you can. 02.01.2022 50 is NOT the new 30 - It's #50AF !! At 30, I'd just emigrated to Sydney, Australia, no kids, no mortgage, been married for a red hot minute, spent all our hard-earned savings on jumping through bureaucratic hoops to retrain and live my dream of moving to The Lucky Country and building a new life in Sydney. I felt like a newly hatched chicken. I soaked in everything Sydney had to offer. I thought I would never leave. Life was pretty easy. ... By 40, I'd built and chosen to give up a successful strategic marketing & comms business, moved to Brisbane with a toddler, jobless and pregnant again, to care for my Mum with cancer and my terminally ill Dad - reinvented my career to fit in with my turbulent life and given birth to STEELEMyStyle Self Love, Styling & Wardrobe Mentor. In the last decade, during motherhood, terminal illness, stroke, ill health, healing from sexual abuse, grief and menopause I have completely rebuilt and reinvented my career, made dreams to become an author, host a podcast a reality so I reckon I know a wee bit about the power of a positive mindset and creating a joyful, value-led life on your own terms, even when the sht is hitting the proverbial. Now as I head into the next part of my journey, with the focus on my Mindset & Strategic Mentoring Consultancy, to say 50 is the new 30 feels like I am doing myself a farkin disservice. I may have a few more wrinkles and rolls but I am a better, stronger, more powerful, content and resilient version of myself - so I embrace it and say #50AF (which at any given time can also be #FancyAF #FunAF #FierceAF #FullOnAF...) This next stage is dedicated to doing what I can to support and inspire others to (as they say in Glasgow) "pure love themselves by the way" and "have ideas above their station", no matter their self-limiting beliefs, past stories, challenges that life has thrown at them or the situation they face themselves in. Thanks for coming on the ride with me.... Onwards & Upwards together Sally xx #mindsetmentor #lifestrategist #brandstrategist
