23.01.2022 Make that two Tansleys! Since joining the Ivies in the team’s inaugural year, Fiona Tansley has captained the side, supported her teammates on and off the field, been our ‘go to’ ruckman and served as a committee member. Basically, she’s done it all! AND she’s all in for 2021! She’s a worker and a pivotal reason why we’ve been such a strong side each season. We are looking forward to seeing Fi play more time up forward next season, says coach Leighton Pearce. We definitely... want to become more dangerous up forward and optimise our scoring capacity. Having Fi as a forward target is going to make us a very difficult side to out score, especially with her ability to take a contested mark and her knowledge of the game. Pic credit: Alistair Knox

20.01.2022 VALE JACK NEESON, STAR OF IVANHOE’S A-GRADE PREMIERSHIP By Phil Skeggs and Norm Shearer There’s not too many blokes who could say they played in three premierships for Ivanhoe.... But John ‘Jack’ Neeson was one of them. Jack was a dynamic rover for Ivanhoe during the 1950s. He and brother Jim came to Ivanhoe with the endorsement of Collingwood Football Club about 1947. The Magpies had a number of brilliant small players in the post-war years and the Neesons, who were blessed with speed, courage and a delightful humorous streak, didn’t make the cut in tryouts. The pair played in our under 19 premiership team in 1949 a highly talented group that included a few who went on to play VFL. Jim left the club in the mid-1950s to work at the highly classified Woomera Rocket Range in outback South Australia. Jack went on to be an outright champion at Ivanhoe. He was vice-captain of the 1954 B grade premiership team and also represented the VAFA that year. Jack would have been the smallest player on the park in the 1956 A grade grand final - standing at just 162.5cm and weighing 63kg. He turned on a match-winning performance to help secure our first A grade flag and was duly voted best-on-ground. Jack was runner-up to Lloyd Williams in the club’s best and fairest that year. He went on to pick up two club best-and-fairest awards in 1957 and 1958 when the club was in A grade. By the time Jack hung up the boots at the end of the 1958, he had played 108 senior games. Jack was short-listed as rover in Ivanhoe’s Team of the Century but got squeezed out by Ron Moore, whose role he inherited after Moore retired. Jack was later named as rover in Ivanhoe’s 1950s Team of the Decade. He was one of 10 members of the 1956 premiership team who attended a 50-year reunion in 2006. Reunion organiser Ian ‘Mick’ Anderson, who played in the centre in the ’56 grand final, said it was a pleasure to play alongside Jack. He (Jack) was a thorough gentleman on and off the ground, he said. He was only a little bloke but a very fine rover. A tough little codger as well for a little man. Jack died on February 6, aged 89. Ivanhoe AFC passes on its condolences to his wife Barbara and family. A funeral will be held on Wednesday February 10 at Alison Monkhouse Knox Chapel in Wantirna South. * Norm Shearer is a past player and life member who was a mate of the late Jim Neeson, who died in 2013.
20.01.2022 Big Sam’s On Board for 2021 Ivanhoe is super-excited to announce that star ruckman and 2018 best and fairest winner Sam Tansley, has committed to the club for 2021. Sam’s tireless and courageous efforts in the ruck have been appreciated by all who have watched him in the past two years.... A consummate team player and great bloke to boot, we look forward to Sam consolidating his reputation as one of the competition’s premier big men in 2021. Pic: Phil Skeggs
16.01.2022 Three more outstanding people recommit! After a busy week of announcements, we are excited to let you know of three more players who have recommitted to the club for 2021. Each with incredible character, up and coming young man, Gerrard Williams; long serving Ivanhoe person, Stefan Zervides and one of our biggest recruiting coups of 2020, Wayne Schultz, we are so pleased to have great role models at the club. Gerrard had a great pre-season in 2020 that had him primed for the ...year before it was cancelled. Gerrard obviously put in the work this pre season and it was disappointing that this year panned out the way it did for him. His combativeness in contests and ability to play multiple roles in the team was very impressive. No doubt another year in the strong room will see him utilise his strengths even more. Another player I can’t wait to see what 2021 holds for him says coach Ash Close. Stefan, KOI to those at the club, also was ready for a big 2020 after injuries ruined his 2019. Stefan turned up to day one pre season in career best condition. He had clearly done a lot of work over the off season and it showed through pre season. Impressively KOI grasped the concepts of our game plan and the structures quickly stated Close, no doubt KOI will show up in similar, if not better, condition that last year and have his best year yet at the Hoers. Having played for four clubs in the VFL (Nth Ballarat, Port Melbourne, Bendigo Gold and Essendon VFL) and won the Michelson Medal in the Bendigo Football Netball League, Wayne’s recruitment for 2020 was significant for the club. Wayne was a massive addition to our list, and although he didn’t play a game he still managed to have a massive impact on the playing group. He brought elite standards to training and also took the time to educate the players around him says Close. It’s such terrific news to have such a quality person like Schultzy recommit for 2021 because you know he will impact so many people throughout the football club, both on and off the field. Stay tuned for more news!

15.01.2022 UMPIRES REQUIRED Due to the exciting expansion of our on-field participation with 5 senior teams, our club is keen to hear from anyone who is willing to assist as field or boundary umpires for our Senior Men’s and Women’s teams for season 2021. This is a wonderful opportunity to be part of the exciting change that is Ivanhoe AFC. For further information and renumeration details please contact Rob Pearce on 0438 378 348... 14.01.2022 Schultz Joins The Panel In further exciting news for the club, 2020 recruit Wayne Schultz has agreed to add a coaching role to his playing role in 2021. His coaching pedigree is one to admire, this is genuinely a massive boost for our Men’s teams for this coming year. Shultz, who has an outstanding playing and coaching history, will be helping out with the midfield and stoppage set up. Schultz started his coaching journey in 2003 as a playing assistant with Sepastopol in the ...Ballarat FL. This was followed by time as a playing assistant at Castlemaine FNC, playing senior co-coach at Strathfieldsaye Storm in Bendigo, senior playing assistant at Northcote Park FC, VFL Men’s Development coach at Essendon, VFL Men’s Assistant coach at Essendon, VFLW Senior Assistant Coach at Essendon, and has taken on a coaching role at Carlton’s AFLW team for 2021. He has also worked as an Assistant Coach for the Melbourne Renegades Champions League team. Wayne’s experience will add perfectly to the current coaching panel, complementing Ash Close and Nick Carlyon wonderfully. 14.01.2022 Young Guns Recommit for 2021 The good news keeps coming down at Hoe Park Dean Gennai Great to see another one of our best young players commit to the club for season 2021.... Dean showed a lot of promise in 2019, playing at least half the games in the seniors, in a tough role as a small forward. Unfortunately, he ruptured his knee earlier this year in our only practice match. But be assured, everyone at the club is right behind him as he builds up for Round 1. Benjamin Centofanti Great to see Ben has also committed to next year, having already played a number of senior games in 2019. Ben has shown a lot of potential, and has a keen willingness to listen and learn. We anticipate that next season could be the year he takes the next big step in his development by cementing a spot in the senior side. A big pre-season awaits! Nick Geary Nick is keen on having a crack at a full pre-season this year. After playing a number of roles and different positions in 2019, it will be a key to him unlocking his full potential. Nick has had bad luck with injuries, with many of his senior games ending prematurely as a result. However, we’re sure that with a big pre-season and a slice of luck, Nick will have consistent senior game time in 2021. Photos: Phil Skeggs
14.01.2022 Ivanhoe supporters chant in triumph after the senior men's team clinch a thrilling 2-point win over West Brunswick under lights at Ivanhoe Park on April 10, 2021. It was the opening round in VAFA Div 2 after the 2020 season was cancelled due to the pandemic lockdown. It was also the first time the men's team had played under lights for premiership points. Despite cold damp conditions, the game attracted a small but vocal crowd of supporters from both clubs. The lead changed hands a couple of times in the final term before the home team goaled with six minutes remaining and hung on until the siren.
14.01.2022 Truly Committed Ivies’ Three Setting The Example Again In 2021! With 2021 pre-season drawing ever closer (we all hope it’s very soon!!) Mathanki Winayakan, Charli Tyler and Emily Johnson are preparing to set the standards at training and on match days once again with the Ivies. Mathanki, aka Tank, is a coach’s dream. She came to the Ivies pretty raw but has worked tirelessly on her skills and understanding of the game. From a methodical kicking style to being able to kick on... the run is a credit to her work ethic and commitment to the team, said coach Leighton Pearce, adding She did not miss a single training session during the 2019 home and away season. I have no doubt she will be our team’s bench mark for standards we’ll set in 2021. Charli is another one of Ivies’ hardest workers. Her eagerness to develop her skills at training and then to learn and implement our team plan has been brilliant. Charli so often puts her team before herself and is eager to analyse our teams strengths and ways we need to improve for the next game. Receiving the Ivies coaches 2019 award was a credit to her amazing qualities she brings to not only the team but the club itself, said Pearce. If Emily has a big game, Ivies win. She is pivotal to our side. Pearce describes Em J as our loudest personality on and off the field. Her goal celebrations are 2nd to none! She won’t like me saying this, but not only is she a big target up forward but also plays an attacking role off the half back line very well. We can’t wait to see the three of them on the track very soon!

11.01.2022 Disco’s Back to Light up Ivanhoe Park We are delighted to announce that our 2020 reserves coach, Ross ‘Disco’ Toogood, has been appointed Reserves Coach for the 2021 season. A popular clubman, Disco brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role ... A determined, dependable and skilled left-footer, Disco was a mainstay of our defence across 246 games from the late 90’s onwards. What’s more, Disco served as reserves coach from 2009-11, and proved to be a great communicator and developer of talent. Add to this a good football brain and dazzling dance skills, and you can see why we’re excited to have Disco on board to bring through the next generation of Ivanhoe stars. Photo: STW Photography
10.01.2022 Mitchell and Mayne back for 2021 At the end of the 2019 Season two of our key players had decided to take a year out of footy in 2020. Whether it was good luck or good foresight (ok it was luck for us!), both Conor Mitchell and Wes Mayne won’t miss a game! Both are raring to go in 2021! Joining the club as an Under 19, Conor has spent many years as a key cog of our senior backline before moving to the midfield and forward at various times. In 2020, Conor decided to take a ye...ar off footy and is a huge inclusion into the playing list. It’s well known that within the club that Conor is a crucial part to the team as he brings an intensity to win the ball that is second to none, said coach Ash Close. All football aside Conor is a terrific person to have around the group and we are wrapped to have him back. Wes joined Ivanhoe in 2017 with a strong basketball background. He has quickly become a key member of the team, both up forward and in the ruck, and was in the VAFA rep squad in 2019. So with an increased focus on study, Wes was potentially going to be a big loss for us in season 2020 however it appears we have our big man back. Having the ability to turn a game real quick in our favour it is great news to have him on board, said assistant coach Nick Carlyon. Wes has the ability to get his hands first on the footy for our growing midfield. He can also become a nightmare for opposition back lines up forward. Conor and Wes are two of the most loved players on our list and we are all very excited to welcome them back for season 2021. Pic credits: Conor: Phil Skeggs Wes: Anthony Jones

07.01.2022 Champions recommit to the Ivies When three star players say they’re all in for 2021, the coach gets a big smile, and the club gets excited too. That’s the case this week as three very important Ivies told coach Leighton Pearce they’re ready for a big year ahead. VAFA and club B&F winner, Georgia Scarce, Georgia Aanensen and Emilia Bisogni will make a huge impact again in 2021. It is no surprise that when a player of the ilk of Georgia Scarce recommits, it is massive news. Win...ner of the VAFA B&F in 2018 and the Ivies B&F in 2018 & 2019, coach Leighton says having Scarce return to the Ivies in 2021 is a massive inclusion to our team list. Her work rate and attack on the footy is phenomenal. We’ve seen numerous times in the past where she has lifted the team to victory. What I love about Scarce is her determination to win and hatred for losing. Another key cog in the Ivies machine is Georgia Aanensen. Having the ability to play all over the ground is a great advantage, Georgia is one of those players we wish we could have 18 of! She is a versatile player but really cemented her place in the side at centre half back in 2019. Her ability to read the play combined with her silky skills is an asset to our side says Pearce. You lose count in a game how many times GA intercepts the football and rebounds the footy back into our attacking half. Rounding out these three outstanding players to recommit is Emilia. With her attitude and will power setting the standard on the field, she is always one to watch. Emilia is a delightful personality to have around the club and equally, delightful to watch on the field. I love plugging Mils into the middle. Her determination to win the footy is second to none and if she doesn’t win possession she makes sure her opponent is left bruised and battered says Pearce. Stay tuned for more news soon!
06.01.2022 IVIES TO PLAY TWO TEAMS By Phil Skeggs It’s pre-season and after a year’s break the past few weeks have been wholeheartedly embraced by a great many enthusiastic men and women at Ivanhoe Park. ... The big news is the Ivies will be fielding two teams in the women’s divisions this season. Ivies head coach Leighton Pearce said women turned out in such impressive numbers that the club notified VAFA headquarters on February 1 that we’ll have enough for two teams. The VAFA were very happy to hear the good news and began mapping out what division the Ivies would compete in, he said. It’s been incredibly satisfying to see new players join in at training this summer and without hesitation, committing to the Ivies. I’m really proud how our veterans of the Ivies have welcomed so many young guns who have predominantly come from the Ivanhoe JFC. Watching several youth games in 2019 we have many reasons to be excited about this season. Not only have we built a strong player base but we’ve also welcomed Trent Ryan joining our coaching support consisting of myself, Peter Tyler and Fede Frew. The Hoers will also be fielding a men's Thirds team this season.
05.01.2022 Ivies ready for 2021! 2021 is shaping as a big year for our Ivies. The Star players continue to re-commit for the season ahead, with three more ready for an exciting season. Genevieve Grose came to the side in 2019 and straight away won over her teammates and coaches with her infectious personality and strong presence on the field. Gen quickly put together an impressive highlights reel. Her best would have to be her match winning goal against Old Haileyburians, coach Leigh...ton Pearce says. It was a bomb close to the boundary putting the Ivies back in front moments before the final siren. We’ve had the luxury of putting Gen at centre half back, forward, in the ruck and she always makes a big impact. Rhiannon Campbell is another wonderful recruitment for the club from the Ivanhoe Junior Football Club. Her work on the track at the start of the year was so impressive. She ticks all the boxes. Has footy smarts, silky smooth skills, speed and attack on the ball is fierce. She set the tone in training sessions and I know she’ll do the same come match day, an excited Pearce explained. Ireland Hall, affectionately known as Pirate, has only 1 gear on the footy field. Top Gear! Pearce says she is an absolute warrior and she doesn’t know how to take the foot off the pedal at training. I encourage all Ivanhoe supporters to come watch the Ivies and in particular watch ‘Pirate’ chase down the footy and crash into her opponents. As Peter Tyler (assistant coach) and I frequently say, with half a dozen Pirates, we would be impossible to beat. We look forward to making more announcements about our Ivies’ stars for 2021!
04.01.2022 Three young Ivies locked in! Ivies young stars Cate Riddington, Aimee Trew and Genevieve Schneider have all recommitted to the club for season 2021, continuing the exciting news the club has had in recent times. Cate moved codes from soccer to AFL footy, joining the Ivies in 2019. Her impact at training and on game day was immediate. Cate’s attack on the football and electric run and carry left opponents well off the pace. Her versatility to play in any position is a huge as...set for the team, says coach Leighton Pearce. Cate’s bubbly personality around the club keeps her teammates and coaches smiling! Aimee impressed Leighton immensely during the preseason, in every possible way. Her diligence to consistently attend training sessions and work hard on the track combined with her speed and wonderful skills, has us very excited what she will bring to the side game day! Leighton was also impressed with Genevieve who joined the Ivies at the start of 2020. Straight away Genevieve looked at home on the track and among her new teammates. She came through the Ivanhoe Junior Football Club, which has given her the skill set and knowledge to be a key position player for the Ivies.
04.01.2022 2021 Committee - AGM The club held its AGM on Wednesday night where the 2021 Committee was sworn in. With almost the same committee as 2020, we would still love a couple more people to put their hands up and join. Primarily we are after someone to take on the Secretary role but we would also love someone to represent the Ivies. So if you, or a family member would like to be involved with your club, please contact Rob Pearce on 0438378348. To see the full 2021 Committee, head to our website https://ivanhoeafc.com/club-information//committee-members/
03.01.2022 2020 Recruits Liked What They Saw & So Did We! During the 2020 pre-season we worked hard on bringing in new players and what we got was fantastic. Three of those new recruits, Matt Hrkac, Ed Thwaites and Luke Course, have re-committed for 2021. The trio continue the exciting news as we work towards a big 2021! Matty joined the club and fit in immediately. Matt came to us with a limited AFL background but his eagerness to learn and improve found him in the seniors for the firs...t practice game. Coach Ash Close describes Matt as an athletic type who was one of our best performers in the practice game. The coaching staff are really looking forward to seeing Matt in 2021. Ed joined the club for the 2020 season and very early in pre-season we could tell that we had a player on our hands. Ed immediately pushed his way into the midfield group and was outstanding in the practice match. Ed will no doubt feature strongly in the 2021 season and will really drive improvement of our young group said Close. Luke is the brother to our captain James. He joined the club and seamlessly fit into the group. Similar to Matt he was an athletic type who showed a real aggression to win his own footy, said Close. The coaching staff still have an open mind for Luke’s best position on the ground due to athleticism but it was exciting to see him link up with his brother a number of times throughout the practice match. We are pumped for the inclusion of Luke as he’s going to make our club better both on and off the field.
02.01.2022 Club Games Record Holder Joins The Coaching Staff With so many key players recommitting to the club in 2021, it is great news that they will have another experienced person guiding them on the Senior coaching panel. IAFC games record holder (355 games) and Hall of Famer, Pete Rawley, has joined the coaching panel as an assistant, focused on the defensive line. Having previously coached our Reserves in 2014, and taking them to a Grand Final, Rawley’s experience and personality... are great additions to the football department. With the addition of Pete, the Men’s coaching team consists of Senior coach Ash Close, Senior assistant Nick Carlyon, and assistants Wayne Schultz (mids/stoppages) and Pete Rawley (defence). The coaches can not wait for the season to start! Bring on 2021!
01.01.2022 Key Mids Ready to Motor Everyone at IAFC will be delighted to see the recommitment of two key midfielders for 2021. Both Adrian Mifsud and Fonda Kyriakos played important roles in 2019 and retaining them means our midfield depth is significant. Being a Major cog in our midfield group, Adrian is keen on a big pre-season. Senior Assistant Coach Nick Carlyon says after playing the majority of 2019 as an inside mid, and carrying an injured and sore body, Adrian will welcome our ...depth and new set up as a midfield group. He is a good reader of a contest and with classy ball use, our forwards will enjoy the delivery from a fit and fresh Mifsud. Fonda is one of the more talented players on our list. Senior Coach Ash Close adds, Fonda has the ability to win clearances at stoppages and also the ability to hit the scoreboard when playing forward. It is clear he is much loved by all his team mates and he is set for a big 2021.
01.01.2022 IAFC BIG Draw Date Confirmed Sunday 21 February 2021!
