25.01.2022 Communication while wearing face masks while social distancing at least 1.5m away is difficult for everyone, especially for people who rely on visual cues like watching peoples lips and facial expressions. Plus, masks will also cut down the speech volume and clarity. To show consideration and improve communication, you can speak slightly louder and enunciate clearly, use more hand signs and gestures to communicate, and maybe even write your message down. If theres anything we can help you with, please feel free to contact us.

24.01.2022 Be extra careful when kissing children near their ears. Small children are particularly vulnerable to hearing damage. Their ear canals are smaller, so the intense suction and negative pressure caused by a direct ear kiss is going to have a much greater impact. This phenomenon is called the "Kiss of Deaf" and it could cause permanent hearing loss. The bottom line is, never ever kiss anyone, child and even adult, directly on the ear!

22.01.2022 #WisdomWednesday "Communication works for those who work at it." - John Powell Every time you communicate with another person - whether they be a stranger on the bus, a client on the phone, or a work colleague at work - that is one more person whom you have connected with; one more precious moment of bonding between two people. The more we communicate and bond with one another, the greater the understanding we have of each other and the world around us.

22.01.2022 If you are living with diabetes, it is crucial to get your hearing assessed regularly, because you are twice more likely to experience hearing loss. Scientists note that the cochlea, the auditory portion of the inner ear, is full of tiny blood vessels that are susceptible over time to the damaging effects of high blood glucose. We are here to help you with your hearing health and prevent any future hearing problems. Call us today to make an appointment with our caring audiologist for a full hearing assessment.

21.01.2022 #TopTipThursday Are you kids playing with toys which are just way too loud? Some electronic toys can be too loud for your childrens delicate hearing. Dont worry, here is a tip to fix the problem without having to turn it off entirely. What you can do is to put a piece of clear packing tape over the speaker of loud toys with no volume control. It will cut down the noise significantly. If you are more tool-savvy, you can even take the toys apart and place the packing tape on the inside of the speaker grid. This way, your kids wouldnt notice the tape and try to peel it off. Feel free to share to anyone facing the same issue.

19.01.2022 This August is Tradies National Health Month. Ivory Hearing is focusing on raising awareness about the importance of health and safety for our tradies. Tradespeople in Australia face some of the most physically demanding jobs and exposed to some of the most harmful noises day in and day out. Recent statistics revealed that tradies recorded the highest level of deafness in Australia, mainly from working with high powered equipment, loud machinery and power tools. Noise-induce...d hearing loss is completely preventable, so we strongly encourage tradies to wear hearing protection and incorporate healthy hearing into their lifestyle. If youre a tradie or an employer, ensure you and your team have the correct hearing protection to suit your industry, and get a hearing check every year. At Ivory Hearing, our caring audiologist is accredited by WorkCover to perform full audiological assessment. Book an appointment today.

18.01.2022 #WisdomWednesday "The art of conversation lies in listening" - Malcolm Forbes Nowadays we keep on improving our personality traits, external looks and much more, but we never pay attention to one of the most important skills - listening skills. It allows us to learn to listen at a deeper level, not just for words, but also for the feeling, meaning and intent behind them.

18.01.2022 Having hearing loss is stressful and it takes an average of 10 years for anyone to do something about it. If having hearing loss is making you feel isolated, know that you dont have to face it alone. We have helped many people reconnect back to their life. Talk to us today.

18.01.2022 #FunFactFriday A rooster’s crow is so loud (more than 130dB), it can deafen you if you stand too close. It's like standing 15 meters away from a jet taking off! But how do the roosters protect their own hearing when they crow? Studies have shown that their ear canals are mechanically protected, so instead of getting a full dose of their own voice, a crowing rooster only hears a small portion of their own output. Unfortunately humans are not built like that. If you are getting hearing loss due to exposure to loud sounds, please call us and get your hearing checked immediately.

17.01.2022 Fathers Day is coming soon, take this good opportunity to talk to your dad (or any other men in your lives) about hearing loss and urge him to take care of his hearing health. Men are facing a higher chance of developing hearing loss than women, due to their likelihood of working with loud machinery, and having hobbies with loud noises, like listening to rock music, woodworking and motorcycling. Men are also less likely to seek help for their hearing problem, which makes mat...ters worse. Hearing loss, when untreated, is often linked to other health conditions like heart disease, balance problem, memory loss, and depression. If your dad has already got hearing test and hearing aids to help with his hearing, kudos to dad! Are they working as well as they should? Is earwax blockage an issue? This September 7-11th, bring his hearing aids in and well clean, service and fix (if needed) for FREE, so that he can hear his best again. Please call first to secure a spot.

12.01.2022 17th - 23rd August is Keep Australia Beautiful Week. Hearing aid users deal with many disposable batteries, so it is a good opportunity to remind everyone that batteries are not meant to be thrown into the bin. Each year, 8,000 tonnes of batteries end up in landfill because they were not separated from normal trash. Over time, the toxic chemicals in these batteries leak into the environment, potentially harming wildlife and affecting surrounding soil or waterways. We encoura...ge everyone to take their used batteries to special collection points throughout Australia. If you have used hearing aid batteries, bring them to Ivory hearing and we will properly dispose them for you. Rechargeable hearing aids are more and more common nowadays, so if you are in need of new hearing aids, we can organise environmentally-friendly hearing aids that helps you hear your best.

10.01.2022 Womens Health Week is the biggest week in Australia focusing on good health and wellbeing for women to learn more and take action for their overall health, including hearing health. Being female comes with unique physical changes like during pregnancy and menopause, each of which can impact their sense of hearing. When pregnant, women have the potential to experience sensorineural hearing loss because of the changes in the hematological, cardiovascular, and endocrine systems..., which can then lead to altered circulation within the cochlea. Menopause will result in a decrease in estrogen levels which can lead to a decrease in hearing levels. Women who do not take hormone replacement therapy were more likely to have poorer hearing than those who do. The good news is that women are almost more likely to seek help and do something about their hearing problems more than men. If you are experiencing any type of hearing loss or hearing aid discomfort, talk to us today. We can help you hear your best again!

People with diabetes are twice more likely to experience hearing loss than those without. If you have diabetes, and have not had your hearing and ears checked recently, please contact Ivory Hearing and book an appointment for either a quick 15-minute FREE hearing screening or a full hearing assessment. Our audiologist can advise you ways of managing your hearing health.

06.01.2022 September is Dementia Awareness Month. Scientific research has shown that hearing difficulties may reduce quality of life through social isolation, loneliness and depression, which in turn increase the risk of developing dementia. Hearing loss may place extra load on a vulnerable brain. When the person with hearing loss has to work harder to decode and process sounds, that means there are fewer mental resources for memory, understanding speech, and other cognitive functions. This may lead to negative changes in the brain. If you are experiencing hearing loss, treating it not only can help you hear and connect better, it can also certainly help with your brain health. All your active social connections and staying engaged also keep your brain healthy. Feel free to talk to us to discuss more.

03.01.2022 #FunFactFriday Moose are well-known for their impressive hearing. Their ears are more than 60 times larger than human ears, and their calls can travel about 3 kilometres. Scientists had previously suspected the antlers helped with locating mates because males with them were found to be better able to locate females than those without. So a study was conducted using trophy antlers with an artificial ear and it confirmed that the antler behaves like a giant ear trumpet and boosts the hearing of the moose by 19%. If you are experiencing hearing loss, although we cant give you a pair of antlers, we can help you find out if our digital hearing aids are suitable for your circumstances or not. Feel free to call us to discuss.

Genuine active listening has become a rare gift. We all need to learn to listen, as it helps build relationships, solve problems, ensure understanding, resolve conflicts, and improve accuracy.

02.01.2022 Well done Tracey and thanks for the masks!

If you have family or friends who are dealing with this frustration, we can help them hear their best and enjoy having conversation again. Call us for an appointment with our caring audiologist.
